Life on the Martian frontier is still raw and unpredictable--even after three generations. If the cold doesn't get you, the thin air might. Of the lack of water. However, the dangers won't stop newcomers from arriving in droves, creating a strain on limited resources and breeding resentment among settlers. If Jethro Brodie can't figure out a solution--and soon--he stands to lose not only the woman he loves, but watch his beloved planet go up in flames and risk closing Mars to future.generations forever.
The worldbuilding in this series is fantastic, believable, and inventive. The story is a character-driven tale of kindness, love, struggle, bigotry, and hope. I admit Maricel's fearfulness annoyed me at times, but this story's body count showed that Mars is not a safe planet. I am reading read this series out of order. Although Serenity follows Home to Blue Ridge and Diamond in the Rough chronologically, Redline and Skyreach are the first books in this series. At least I already know how those relationships turn out.
