Fay

Rate this book
With family photos, video and film stills, and studio photos never before published, Fay captures the collaborative spirit and amazing artistic outpouring of Wegman and his extraordinary companion. Their relationship spanned ten years during which time Fay became as well known to the art world as her canine predecessor, Man Ray. Motherhood brought Fay new concerns and Wegman a wealth of new characters. In 1989 she was joined in the studio by three of her puppies. What followed was a flowering of dramatic roles for Fay and her offspring in a wide range of books and videos for children.

I love William Wegman! I love his photography, I love his dogs, and I love his gentle and subdued writing voice. I just think he's the greatest. Years ago, I watched his dogs on Sesame Street, and marveled at the quirky idea of a dog with human hands doing human things. Twenty years later and I rediscovered him through his photography. Now, I'm falling in love with each dog.

Fay has always been my favorite, and now I can finally put a name to the face. Everyone always talks well of Man Ray, but Fay Ray was the star of the show for me. This book collects all of her beautiful pictures and stories. While I loved the images, the narration interspersed through the story was perfect, and really helped to draw everything together. It made the book so much deeper.

Would highly recommend. And I can't recommend it enough to Wegman fans! An excellent, excellent book.

I used to be genuinely freaked out by these dogs. The breed and the breed dressed up. But after finding this book literally by the side of the road, and in pretty good shape, I took it home with me. I started reading it on the bus ride home and fell in love with the story of Fay, her pups, their real lives with Wegman and the artistic process taken to make each photo.

Fay by William Wegman (Hyperion 1999)(779.32). Wegman’s brilliant photography with weimeraners after the passing of Man Ray continues with Man Ray's daughter Fay Ray and her offspring. My rating: 8/10, finished 2012.

For years I've enjoyed Willian Wegman's whimsical and artistic photos and films of his beloved Weimaraners. Therefore, I was immediately drawn into his fun and fascinating world to learn more about his career and how he created his amazing works of art, fun, and fancy with his dogs.

But it was equally enjoyable to learn about his years spent with one of his most famous dogs, Fay. Anyone who has ever loved a dog or cat will enjoy and identify with his loving relationship with Fay and, like me, may shed some tears at the end of her life. A fascinating book on multiple levels.

Wegman is the male equivalent of the sort of silly woman who keeps dressing up her dog in clothes. The dog had the patience of a saint to put up with such a dumbass owner.

The story of a photographer and his muses. I love the behind the scenes photos and stories. My daughter and I watched his dog videos on repeat when she was young.

Dog stories are always both heartwarming AND heartbreaking. It was fun getting to know the superb-personality creature Fay 'Wegman.'
