Good news: A mysterious stranger saved me at a Hollywood Halloween Party. Bad news: Now I’m carrying his secret and I don’t know who he is!
My guardian angel wore a mask so I could only see his body. But that was enough to make me melt. A knockout sexy appearance with six-pack abs, irresistible strong arms, and a tattoo on his wrist I will never forget. It was the wildest night of my life. And it gifted me the most precious person in the world: My little daughter Arianna. Now I need to start working again, so we can make a living. That’s why I have a job interview with one of the most powerful billionaires in LA. Good thing: He’s a drop-dead gorgeous alpha male and wants to give me the job. Bad thing: The tattoo on his wrist…
Would now be the right time to tell my new boss about his unexpected gift?
"Unexpected Surprise" is a full-length standalone romance with no cheating and no cliffhangers, but with a gorgeous protective alpha male, plenty of steam and a guaranteed HEA. I've also included a preview of my romance novel "My Next Mistake" for you. Happy reading! - Sarah J. Brooks (USA Today Bestselling Author)
Machen wir es kurz. Immerhin ist dies eine Kurzrezension. 😜
I had such a hard time getting into this book. I found myself skimming it. I just wasn’t fond of the writing style.
Neither of them had logical emotional responses to the situations in this book. She goes to the party with Chris knowing he would try to sexually assault her and she even dresses sexy on purpose so she can “feel powerful.”
She has sex with a total stranger, gets pregnant and holds 0 hostility. She thinks he’s amazing got getting her pregnant. It was super weird. When they both figure out who the other is during the interview it was awkward for the reader and very anticlimactic. She faints after their conversation (not before) and was just like ooops that rarely happens. After two days of dating he says “move in with me, but I don’t do commitment. Let’s just see where this goes.”
I gave it 2 starts because I know the author worked hard on the book. Writing is never easy and not everyone is bound to like and appreciate your work. It’s like putting a piece of yourself out there for others to judge. Criticism no matter how heart wrenching it may be, is the only thing that will propel you to do better in future endeavors.
Reyna is fairly innocent when it comes to sex, but she is sassy and isn’t afraid to stick up for herself. She lives and works in Hollywood. She has written some screen plays, but doesn’t have any published. She is working temp for one of the biggest producers in Hollywood and also one of the biggest intimidators to women. Her boss forces her to go to a Halloween party at a mansion on the pretext they are going to work. He tries to force himself on Reyna, but a masked man helps her out. This masked man is millionaire Sinclair who also owns a company and produces movies.
Reyna and Sinclair have a connection and spend the night together. Reyna leaves without knowing who he is, and ends up having a baby. I loved her two roommates who loved her baby Arianna and always wanted to help take care of her.
It is interesting how Reyna meets Sinclair again. There are many outside forces that affect their relationship. There is also a lot of sex going on. There are some poignant moments in the book with the baby. I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
After an unexpected one nightstand and their modesty at a masked party. Reyna had the best time of her life with her hunky stud. Two years later Reyna has a new baby and needs to find work and her new boss reminds her of her masked hunk.
This was good story. A pretty hot read and it was fairly predictable, but so what, it was enjoyable anyway. I liked the characters, Sin was especially good, he was the gorgeous, dominant alpha male but Reyna had some sass to put him in his place. I liked this book!
So this had potential but just sodnt really hit the spot. The storyline was ok if you like insta everything. There wasnt much dept to this book and I caught myself wanting to give up halfway through. I continued on and finished but it was definitely not the best book I have ever read. It's missing something and felt way too rushed. This is just my opinion though. You might have a different take though so dont let me discourage you.
Reyna is a writer and trying to make it in the movie industry. Her sleazy boss keeps coming on to her and tells her she must attend a Halloween party with him for work. Sinclair is in the movie business as well and rescues Reyna at the party and sparks fly. Fast-paced fun and steamy read with plenty of drama and suspense. I liked it.
This was a good read. Reyna is at a costume party on Halloween and she has sex with a masked man. She then becomes pregnant. After the baby is born she is ready to go back to work and the guy that hires her ends up being the guy she slept with on Halloween. Her and Sinclair then try to make a relationship work. They have some ups and downs but in the end they get their HEA.
I was so excited for this book, but it was excuted so badly. The whole writing style was like it was written by a child. The characters didn’t have any depth, the whole thing felt rushed and so RAPEY. I wouldnt bother with this one.
As much as I hate to say it, I was not impressed. Why do I hate to say it? Because the storyline wasn't a bad and I liked the characters (for some reason, after their second connection, I started picturing Gerard Butler as the H.)
Why was I not impressed? First the technical stuff.
1. The story is told in dual first person (his and hers), but the language used as they tell their story, is more like a 3rd person...especially the H. One example, the H says "My pre-cum mixed with her juices created the perfect viscosity". Who uses the word viscosity when referring to bodily fluids during a sexual encounter? For those who don't know, viscosity refers to the thickness of fluids (like motor oil, etc.) I've only ever encountered that word in scientific, technical references...certainly never sexual. It's as if the author was trying to prove to her readers she had a great vocabulary. overly descriptive, flowery language is fine in third person, but in 1st person...well most people just don't talk like that and It was off-putting at times.
2. Poor proof reading/editing. Example: "It felt right being held by him like this could be home one day". At minimum, punctuation is missing. Did it 'feel right being held by him like this'? In which case the last part of that sentence (could be home one day) is an incomplete thought. Or, did it 'feel right being held by him'; like it could be home one day? See what I mean? A common or semi-colon after "him" makes all the difference.
3. Inconsistencies; e.g., The lactating heroine states, as she's checking herself in the mirror before her date, that she elected not to wear her special thick bra that prevents milk leakage on her dress because it would have ruined the look of the dress. There is even mention of items in her big purse like a breast pump (that she'll need to use later in the evening to avoid said leakage and her mini cooler to store the expressed milk. But when they're at his house later in the evening and start getting jiggy with it, he comments about her super bra that looks like armor! So did she wear her super bra or not?
My other issue is with part of the story itself. Specifically the back story regarding the h's former boss and his shenanigans. I don't want to give anything away so suffice to say that he is a real dirt bag and there are several scenes while she is working for him to confirm it, as well as references about him and run-ins with him after she has left his employment. It is the main cause of the h and H's initial hook-up, as well as the reason she ends up interviewing for a job in the H's office a year later. It's also the cause of some real animosity between the H and his older brother, whose firm is representing former said boss when his shenanigans catch up to him and he gets charged, with the h being a witness. And then suddenly..nothing. Only an epilogue where it's mentioned that two years later he finally went to trial and was convicted. Nothing about the trial itself; and nothing further about the brother who spoke so ill of the h and threatened to ruin her and drag her name through the mud ... nothing...no resolution whatsoever! It left me wanting! While there were a few times I really felt connected and invested in the characters, there were more times I didn't and found myself skimming through pages,, especially the sex scenes.
In the end, I believe the author would have done better, and held our interest, spending more time on how the h and H were affected by the former boss issues and the trial, as well as the issues with the elder brother, and less time on how trying to keep their relationship secret affected them. I think she missed the boat on this one, so what could have been a great story ended up being mediocre at best.
This one was rough and I really had to force myself to keep reading and keep hoping it would get better. Spoiler alert. It didn’t.
A LOT was wrong and stupid about this book. Including the two main characters. Reyna was so Wishy-washy about everything it wasn’t even funny. Especially the work sexual harassment. I support the #metoo movement but the way it was projected by Reyna was a weird. She would go from being strong, confident, take no shit, to all talk, second guessing, crying, and timid. I never felt like I really understood her. Was she fierce, take charge, fighter, strong, independent? Or was she weak, cry over everything, woe is me, nothing goes my way, scared, unsure of herself and her sexuality. She can’t be nervous and unsure about everything, especially sex, and then dominate and try to talk sexy the next second! It’s just confusing and doesn’t work! And Sinclair was confusing too! I thought he was going to be this alpha male, dominant Type guy but he was that only sometimes! Come on let the characters be themselves all the time and decide who they are going to be! It was way to complex and confusing for both of them. And I didn’t like that their relationship didn’t develop AT all. AT ALL!
Ok seriously have they never heard of a condom!!!!! You don’t do one night stands with strangers without protection! And seriously he has slept with other people and they never once talk about being clean or anything! She’s a freaking idiot! “Oh please pull out” that makes perfect freaking since. I’ve never rolled my eyes so much!
Definitely an insta love with a weird twist. They both talked about being in love right away and it was weird. They were in lust not love. Especially when one just wanted a quick fuck and the other wanted “to make love”
And his reaction to being a dad?! “Oh ok well we can still have sex now right cuz my dicks hard” Seriously?!! No emotion. No fear or anger or anxiety or excitement. Just wanted to have an orgasm. And how they went about him meeting her was... different? And I didn’t like how he never asked to spend time with her. It was always you and the baby come over and I’ll have someone watch the baby. Dude she’s your daughter and she has a name and hint hint her name isn’t “the baby”.
I really didn’t understand Reyna and sex. She said her ex and her “fucked like bunnies” but she blushes and thinks everything is so naughty. But also tries to make sexy comments and take over in the bedroom. It didn’t mesh at all. It was just confusing and I didn’t understand her at all. I get being uncomfortable with a one night stand but she wanted it. Then when they got together again she was acting like a blushing virgin then tried to take control then a blushing virgin again. All of her “sexy” comments were pretty dang Awkward. And I absolutely hated all the comments about being a mother and how pregnancy changed everything. You could tell she hated it all and so did he and everyone else but it was always followed up with “but I like my new body”. Then why say it so negatively in the first place!!!
Neither of them acted their age. Especially Sin. He was going on 40 and acted like a horny 20 year old or even younger at times. And all Reyna did was cry and feel sorry for herself and be prude about everything while saying she wasn’t a slut or whore. Good for you but grow a pair! And I really liked how the whole time she was saying “this is moving to fast” and then bam they are engaged.

I read this book in less than a day and I'm glad that I had the motivation to start it.
First off, if you're looking for a book that is all about a player who flips his life after meeting one girl and takes her on date after date while trying to romance her into seeing that he's changed, this might not be the right read for you at the moment. While the whole act of getting knocked up during a one night stand is often seen as an immature thing to do, the author did a great job incorporating playful, but mature character traits to the two main leads.
This book was more of an insta-love story than anything else. The moment they met, the two leads seemed to gravitate towards each other and there was not much of a background for them. Once they met, the story remained on only them and the other character, including their family situations, were most definitely background and not very much in the mix. There was almost no information on them at all.
It wasn't only a book about two people rolling around in the sack. There was so much more to it. Yes, the book definitely included some hot and playful sex scenes in it, but it was also refreshing. I was able read a book that raised awareness for some of the struggles happening (especially for women) in work environments. A lot of the other novels that I've read focus too much on the pain of betrayal and missed opportunities when a woman doesn't notify the baby daddy that he's a father. This book did mention those aspects, but it was unique in the fact that it made sure the reader knew that the child in the situation was the most important thing. Often times, this is a forgotten aspect.
Sin, the male lead, was a man in need of a certain touch, but didn't really seem to realize just how bad until he laid eyes on his angel across the room at a Halloween party. It was hinted at that he was able to get his fair share of ladies if he wanted to, but it wasn't a detailed description or any heavy bragging on his part. Once the author introduced the idea of the two leads being together, that was it; there were no other ladies trying to steal him away or use him for his money. It took the heat off of the billionaire playboy stereotype where every lady thought getting his prick also meant his pocket. This left the light to shine over the sexual harassment taking place in Rey's former workplace.
Rey, the female lead, was a drowning in shark-infested water and unable to realize that she wasn't actually swimming. She wore her armor well and fought off the unwanted advances of her sleazy boss as well as she was able. It wasn't until she was fired and working through her personal problems that she was able to look back and realize how bad her situation truly was and how much she had been through ecause of one person.
Overall, it was both a refreshing and inspiring book and I'm glad that I stuck with it, even if it was a short read.

They met at a masked Halloween party. Spent one evening together and then went their separate ways never exchanging names. Few weeks later there a little complication due from their tryst.
A year later Reyna goes on her first job interview after maternity leave and immediately recognizes Sin her one night stand.
Sinclair has been interviewing for assistants all day. He’s ready to call it quits when his last interview of the day walks in. As soon as she speaks he suspects she’s his one night stand he hasn’t been able to forget.
Cute story, overly cute characters that make life altering decisions overnight. The villain is appropriately vile and very current news.
Sinclair and Reyna meet at a Halloween party and a very powerful connection is made. They thought it would be a one night-type of thing; or so they thought... They meet again about one year later and he works very hard to reconnect in every way possible; while on a date she drops a bomb, but it doesn't change anything for him. They'll go through many bumps and drama to get to be happy together !! I really liked this very aptly titled and well written book; it's emotional, romantic and has many very sexy scenes, and an HEA. Congrats to the author!
I was given a free copy of the book in exchange of an honest review
This book had the potential to be amazing however it just doesn't havet it. I like the storyline but the writing at times seemed robotic to me. Sinclair is supposed to be the alpha male but he fell too hard too fast it just wasn't believable and at times his character was kinda childish with his pouting. The sex scenes were mediocre, not at all what I've come to expect from Sarah. I'm sorry, I don't normally write bad reviews but this book just did absolutely nothing for me. There we're no emotional feels for me. No suspense, no excitement, just no intensity at all it was just cute.. I cannot recommend this book to anyone.
This is the third book of Sarah J. Brooks I read in one day. The books just getting better and better, hotter and hotter and just so happy, funny and oh so lovable. I can’t enough of Sin and Rey and Arianna. They met one night at a Halloween costume party and neither revealed there names and they had hot sex and in the morning Rey was gone and that’s how the book continues. I give this book more then 10 stars and I am off to reading the next book in the serious Beautiful mistake. I highly recommend this book.
I like this couple. I wanted their story, but it seemed rushed to me. And the typos.... ugh. Over all I liked the story and I stayed up till 3am to finish it. I just wish either the time line was extended or she just slowed down the story. It went from 0 to 100 too fast. I can’t go into what bugged me without spoiling it, but I feel like more freaking out was in order. How’s that for a cryptic review? Lol
Rey worked for the horrible Chris and when he forced her to go to the Halloween party as his "work date", he thought had her. Sin who was the competition never thought for a second to steal the beautiful Dark Angel.who.matched his costume. After a great night and a quick exit, Rey left with a surprise. A year later she finds herself with her dark angel and a lot if great surprises and HEA. Great story.
I am here to tell y’all, I am an avid reader. I will grit my teeth and sit through the worst books just because I started them. It’s almost a compulsion for me to have to finish them. BUT...I could not for the life of me make myself finish this monstrosity. Just. Don’t. Do. It.
The chemistry between Sinclair & Alicia just jumps off the page at the very beginning of the book. I just loved the scene between them at the Halloween party. The huge wings just made me laugh.
Not a bad read. Sinclair and Reyna were likeable characters. I always like a little surprise in a romance. There wasn’t much substance to the story but there were a couple interesting twists. Overall, 4 stars.
This is a new to me author and I was not disappointed. She fleshed out the characters and the chemistry was electric. Some of the best love scenes I’ve read, smoking 🔥! Glad it’s a series because I don’t want to leave their story.
I did enjoy this story however I felt like it had a lot of fillers in it. It just felt like it was going on and on about nothing at times. Could've been a lot better. There wasn't really anybgreat dialogue either.
Not impressed with this story. After the uncomfortable opening sexual encounter I should have put this story to rest but I tried. Skipping the rest of the series sadly.
This book certainly shows that both can have a muse. Sin was Reynas and Reyna was Sins. I loved the one Halloween night. It made for a great story. I was so glad Chris got what was coming to him. Great book n
