Cute

This is a cute anthropology that left wanting more from each couple. Which for much books like this does not happen for me.

A BL collection of short stories. The love-stories have interesting plot lines but the author deliberately leaves you with an ambiguous (and not necessarily frustrating) ending with all the tales. Not a half-bad read.

4 stories

It’s a compilation of 4 separate stories/couples completely unrelated to each other. Full age range: High school, college and professional aged. All have potential…a good intro vol. for all. Very different but all appeal to same audience if the cover story appealed to you. Just don’t expect anything much to happen with limited length each.

I liked this one, but was put out upon finishing the second chapter and realizing it was not an entire volume about Haruya and Takashina (I was kinda wondering when things were moving really fast in the first chapter, even for a one-volume BL). Nothing in the blurb indicates that this is an anthology.

There are actually four stories/couples here, two that encompass two chapters, and two that are only one chapter. I really liked Haruya and Takashina (first story, as advertised), and Kiyo and Kanata (the second story). I didn't really care for the third story, as it was just kind of there and disjointed; it could have been executed better with more pages, maybe. The final story was also pretty cute. The first two stories benefitted from more pages as the stories were developed a little further, but the characters in these stories were also just more interesting.

Brief synopsis of the four stories without giving away everything:

The first story is as stated in the blurb: Haruya hears the library announcements and falls for the voice behind them, who ends up being the quiet Takashina. Takashina is awkward and really doesn't interact with anyone, but quickly falls for Haruya, who is friendly to him and doesn't expect him to suddenly be outgoing and talkative just because Haruya talks to him first.

The second story is about a boy named Kiyo who grew up with twin best friends, the sister Haruka, and the brother Kanata. He falls for Haruka and, upon having to move away when they're all 12, he gives a confession letter to Kanata to give to Haruka for him because she's sick and can't see him off. Kanata was actually harboring feelings for Kiyo, and when they meet again seven years later...

The third story is about a guy who is about to graduate from college, and who landed a pretty nice new job. His girlfriend of three years breaks up with him because his job will require him to move, and she doesn't want a long distance relationship. They had planned a vacation together, so he goes off to the inn on his own. There he meets an illustrator of children's books, and they find solace in each other while escaping their romantic woes.

The fourth story revolves around a guy named Yuuhi, who is very popular but apparently always getting dumped, and his friend Takeru. While out with friends at a bar "celebrating" Yuuhi getting dumped again, Takeru goes to check on Yuuhi in the bathroom. There, he finds Yuuhi making out with a dude and runs out, apologizing for interrupting. After Yuuhi returns, Takeru can see that Yuuhi has been hit in the face and takes him safely home to tend to his injury. There, he finds out that Yuuhi is indeed gay. Takeru is supportive and isn't bothered about learning Yuuhi's sexuality, but finds that he can't stop thinking about Yuuhi after this...

Ugh, this was a stupidly cute anthology of stories revolving around a love of...something.

1. Love Voice : 5* : pages 1-52
Love : voice
Ugh, this was a lovely, beautiful story revolving around a young school kid who falls for the voice over the school radio, from the library. Being stupidly cute, he goes and implants himself into the shy students life and hotness ensues.

2. Let's Reveal A Secret : 5* : pages 52-120
Love : smile
This was my favourite! It's a sweet YA story about unrequited love. The MC was best friends with twins when young, and has been gone for 10 years. Now back home, he's convinced it was the girl twin he was in love with all along, but discovers it was actually the boy twin, in his sisters clothes, afraid to lose him and afraid to confess how he felt. I utterly loved the light angst and unrequited nature.

3. Teach Me Love With Your Hands : 3* : pages 120-153
Love : hands
This story was a little fast for me, but I enjoyed it. It was sweet, with a hiker getting lost in a forest. His girlfriend has just broken up with him, and he's a bit heartbroken. Then he stumbles across a strange man in the forest, who helps him to his hotel. They share a drink and a meal, then a night together, but the strange man disappears. It had a strange ending, really sudden and unexplored. I would have loved to see more evolution, as some stories has multiple chapters, but this one needed it and didn't get it.

4. When A Coward Falls in Love : 4* : pages 154-185
Love : ?
This was another great story, though I never really noticed what it was that was loved and adored about the characters, like I could about the other stories. This was a guy stuck in the friend-zone, but never realised he wanted out of it. Not until he sees his friend - constantly getting dumped - kissing another guy in the bar bathroom. Feelings surface, and he realises he's been jealous without knowing it, and they give a relationship a try. While it was quick towards kissing, it didn't go further and I liked how the realisation came about.

Overall, I rounded it out at a 5* because it was super cute, and exactly what I needed to de-stress and have a quick, light read.

Where to Read: Renta!, Tapas, Inkr
*More of a 2.5*

This was a collection of stories, which I'm kind of disappointed about. I was hoping the whole thing was going to revolve around the first couple.

The stories were actually pretty cute and I enjoyed them for the most part. They were just way too short. Everything moves super quickly and the plots are a little convoluted because of that. I absolutely hated the twin story. It was so messy, hard to follow, and I just don't like how he switched twins like that. The other stories all had the potential to be good and I think there is a way to make two chapter stories feel complete, but the way they were written were just too rushed imo. Idk I just wanted more from all of them.

Translation errors

Ugg some of the translatioms make no sense and it seems like that in ever manga I've ever read. Like reading the story as an english speaker, of can get very confusing because whoever proofs these doesn't know English very well! There always a sentence her or there that just doesn't fit the story or the noun is wrong or they use the wrong verb, it can get very confusimg and frustrating! It would take to long to go thru and pickout the errors but a gone reading closely could?d fimd the bubbles that don't fit the dialogue. Otherwise great book

This is a lovely BL collection of four short stories. One of the things I like about them is that each ending isn’t a complete resolution, but has an open quality - yes, the boys find each other in different ways, but where will it give from there? The mangaka leaves it up to you. The artwork is strong, and Hongou certainly knows how to draw young men in jeans - not that that’s my only standard of art, but, hey, it doesn’t hurt either.

For context, this book contains several small stories. The stories do contain a lot of insta-love, instead of love that develops and deepens. There’s definitely nothing wrong with insta-love, but its not something I generally prefer, hence my choice of 3 stars for this book.

For anyone that likes shorter manga stories, and do like love/attraction that occurs very quickly, then this may be better for that kind of audience.

This book was super adorable actually! It is a series of short love stories between different characters. I think they’re about five couples and each one was cute to read about. Some stories were shorter than others, and I wish they all got to get flushed out more. However, it was a very cute read. I appreciate that for a yaoi manga, it wasn’t full of those horrible SA tropes and consent wasn’t really an issue. I’d recommend this manga.

2.5/5

Felt a little rushed and disjointed, but enjoyable. What wasn't obvious when I picked it up was that it's a collection, not a single story. There are 2 2-part stories, and 2 single section stories. I think I'd have preferred it if the gaps were filled in and they were stretched into longer, more satisfying stories, but it was an agreeable light read while I was sick.

Cute. I wish some of the stories were longer; didn’t expect this to be a series of one-shots.

Liked it for what it was but the stories were so short. I wish they were longer. The stories just needed more to them.
