Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.

The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.

I am truly at a loss as to why I adore this series as much as I do. They are, without a doubt, the CHEESIEST books I've ever enjoyed reading.

description

On literally every comment Brand makes to Lilly, the author puts a comma, adding things like, he said with more love than I could ever imagine or his eyes showing a love that was deeper than I ever thought was possible or kissing me with a depth of passion that was beyond anything I could have imagined.

description

Some of the supernatural aspects of the story are interesting, but pretty much undeveloped. For example, in the first book, Lilly learns that the "watchers" are angels who were cast out of Heaven by God for falling in love with human women. They were then cursed in two ways: (1) they would crave the blood of humans; and (2) if they got a woman pregnant, the woman would basically become a nurturing shell for the baby and would die as soon as the baby was born, and the baby turned into a werewolf every night with the moonrise. Let's just forget how stupid it is to have the babies turn into werewolves. I mean, that makes no sense whatsoever. But the craving for human blood could have segued nicely into vampire lore. Instead, Lilly just says something like oh, so you're a vampire and leaves it at that. Seriously?!

description

There's also never really a sense of surprise, wonder, fear or any other emotion you would most likely feel when finding out all these unimaginable things are going on all around you. Lilly seems to take everything in stride. Even when she learns things about herself, she's very blasé. I'm not saying that she should freak out over everything, but there should be a middle ground (imo).

Regardless of the complaints mentioned above and the many others I'm too lazy to write about, I still love the basic premise of this story and the ludicrously sappy writing. Who doesn't want to be adored by Prince Charming?

I am so glad that I am finished with this book. It continued on and on and I read so many other books in between before I forced myself to finish this morning. Ugh! This book reminded me of True Blood where there is an ordinary girl that attracts every possible supernatural individual to her presence. She even has best friend "by choice" named Tara who is black. The way the author made such that Tara, the only black character could only date other black characters (can't remember if the first one was black or not) and all of the characters were stereotypes. It was ridiculous and frustrating. I am sure she is proud for adding black characters, you can tell, but they are so stereotypical that it seems as if she has never actually met a black person (who are as diverse as any other person) and just based this off of what has been viewed on television.

UGH AGAIN! Because the story seems like True Blood but the squeaky clean version. The protagonist determined to remain a virgin until marriage because sex is some horrible beast that adults can not do responsibly. Honestly, if young adult authors stopped trying to guilt teenagers into sex ONLY after marriage, and focused on responsible and safe sexual activity, maybe there would be fewer teen pregnancies and abortions because teens accidentally get pregnant and are ashamed. And then the glamorization of normal life and marriage and kids as if life is without issues once the supernatural things disappear. It is not, stop lying to impressionable young adults by trying to force values and incomplete ideas of what being an adult is like.

Ugh! Ugh! UGH! Even though so much was going on, so many mundane details where added such that when something actually happened, I did not care. I got to experience many mundane activities almost as if I was doing them myself. Though now and again, the author remembered that events were supposed to happen and then the main character would get kidnapped and almost raped because she is SO irresistible!

NO! Sometime the first book is slower because they are trying to create the story and a connection to the characters, this is usually why I go to the second novel and it is usually where the awesome begins. But, I am officially done (even though this is a trilogy) and I refuse to read the last book. I was so distraught that I had to continue to read this book that I complained to everyone.

I am truly sorry, because I know the author spent time and put something into this work. However, as a reader, when I select your work, I am putting my trust in you that you will create a believable where I can lose myself. And as a reader, you trust that I am to give life to your world and your vision. But I cannot do my job if the work is lack luster and pulled out by the mundane. If you want a mundane book, leave out the supernatural. Sorry, but this book was exhausting and basically torture to experience.

Okay I gave this series one more try and it did not go well. The book was bland. It was so (I can't think of the right term)disgusting how Brand was. I mean you can't make a character perfect and so romantic. I just don't understand why the author decided to have a character like him. Malcolm was a great character and so was Will but Lilly decides to go for the one character that has absolutely no real flaws, no substance to him. I was excited when Will talked to Lilly about how it was some type of power she had that caused the love Brand felt for her, thinking okay now there is something to this story. But she didn't listen to him. I started to think that Maybe Brand was going to be used in this whole plot to kill her, like a sleeper agent. I was trying to give the story a chance... But it all kept to the same, Brand is perfect, they are so in love, nothing can destroy it. blah, blah, blah.

I don't care about the next one in the series. I mean the characters don't really matter.

Oh, and the God made Genies part... Yeah that was a great one. Ugh.

DO NOT READ THIS SERIES.

I can't with this book anymore. I tried to finish it but it feels like I'm torturing myself. There's so much wrong with this book: the nauseating characters, the magical beings that keep popping up, Lily getting hurt just to be saved 2 pages later. I was rolling my eyes every other sentence.

"Good grief, is that all you two do?" - Malcolm (pg. 150)

He said it best, that's all I thought throughout this book. I stopped reading at pg 157, 45%. I thought it would get better, but it just got worse.

So this book is awful, Lily is the ultimate Mary Sue. Everyone loves her, her best friend is her little guard dog who wishes she could have the perfect relationship that Lily and Brand has, even the bad guys are either love her or are insanely jealous of her. And the gross obsession with Lily's purity is annoying and has the undertones of slut shaming and I don't like it. And Brand is the weakest angel character I have ever seen. He's been alive since before time was a thing! But he acts like an immature boy that gets jealous easily and needs to be constantly assured that Lily wuvs him so very much. And Lily's friendship with Malcolm and Will is just a way to have drama and to continue the love square. If I *knew* two guys had feelings for me and kept trying to come between my boyfriend and I, I would drop them. Point blank period. But she keeps them around and forces Brand to accept them, even though they constantly talk about taking her from him.

This book is just aggravating, I could deal with the overly romanticism but the characters are awful and the situations are down right ridiculous.

I’ve always loved a good Angel series.

This is one of my favorites and I’m glad I’m rereading this novel I definitely know I missed a lot when I first read this novel.

Each character had different personalities and that’s what I loved most about reading this book. I’ve come across novels who’s characters where really similar before and it just sets off the whole book in a bad way. The best part is picking your favorite characters and mine is Malcom something about a bad guy going good and over pretective of his son to make sure his soul won’t be lost and the fact that he’s very passionate, persistent, loving, and loyal to those he loves makes you hope he either gets a story or that in the series you’ll see he his character doesn’t go to waste.

There is great mystery in this novel that brings out your inner detective wanting to solve this mystery of who is trying to kill her.

I’m sad Will wasn’t so much apart of this novel he seemed to be pushed aside. Malcom shows up more then Will has. I feel sad for him. His kind isn’t very noticed because the fallen angels believe them to be abominations. But seeing how Will loves Lilly and yes he’s said some things to change her mind about Brand but who wouldn’t to hopefully get someone they love on their side. I also hope to see him happy and that Brand, Malcom, and Malik will see that not all Demons are terrible. If anything Will himself proves it.

This novel is well written and very good! I’m so excited to read Forgiven again! I recommend this series if you haven’t already started it.

What?! Are you seriously leaving me like that? How could you?
This book was good, very good. Though maybe not as good as the first. I'm probably getting a bit tired of how sweet and lovey are Brand and Lilly. Don't get me wrong, I like it - in small bits. And I like them together. I love Brand. But sometimes even I need a break from too many spoons of honey.
I liked this book and how the story developped. I liked the new arrive of Malik. He's nice.
Allan weirded me out a little but he's okay.
Robert gives me the creeps.
Izzi was a B-itch. And evil.
Malcom... I like him, but sometimes he's too sticky and hopeful that Lilly will change her mind one day and love him. That gets annoying after a while.
Will made me want to kick his butt to eternity. Why the hell doesn't he mind his own business?!
I liked Lilly's grandmother and how she welcomed her.
Lilly got me frustrated some times in this book. I wanted to slap her silly for some of her behaviours and actions.
Brand is always my favorite. Love him!
Tara is okay.
Abby is always nice and lovely. I like her with Sebastian.
Uriel baffled me.
And who was that man in the jewelry store? Was it Uriel? God? Lucifer? Lilly's father?
The story was good and I like how it's developping. We're finally learning more about Lilly's abilities and heritage and her family. I'm curious to read more and finally get to the end and solve this mystery.

At times, especially the first whole quarter of the book, this story seemed completely focused on the love story between Lilly and Brand. It was a bit over the top for me. I can only read about someone declaring their undying love for someone so many times before it becomes a bit sickening.

I also felt at times that this was one big lesson in purity, there's a lot of focus on not having sex before marriage... 1. This is supposed to be entertainment, not Sunday school. 2. I find it a bit hypocritical, and I've seen this in a number of YA series, that it's preached that sex before marriage is a sin, but then the couple end up marrying at a very young age to get around that, and that might not be the only reason but it sure is convenient that the author is then allowed to maintain their moral position but still get a bit sexy, because ya know, sex sells. So is that a responsible lesson? I'm not here to preach, as I said, this is entertainment but I find that lesson to be a bit backwards.

Now despite my little rant there, I did enjoy the portions of this story that were action packed and I'm intrigued to find out who is pulling the stings and why.

I picked this book up as soon as I had finished reading book 1.. I just cant get enough of this series.
The more I read into the story the more I seem to love Malcolm and his ways! Although it's clear that Lilly is a major part of what is to come in the grand scheme of things, Im still holding on to hope that she picked Malcolm.

It's not that it's terrible, it just wasn't going anywhere. I couldn't stand the best friend Tara either. There is nothing worse than some irrelevant character who is a bossy irritating bitch who tries to act like your mother. Why is she even there; to be the guardian of Lily's lady bits? Damn, let her live. She's a grown woman. It's just boring really so I dnf'd it.

I really enjoy the story this series has. It makes you not want to put it down. However, there is still too much detail put on things that don't seem relevant (describing what people wear, Lilly's grandparents house decor etc). Want to figure out the story.

4.0. Like in the last one, there were a few suspenseful moments. I think it was a little less angsty than Cursed. Since Lilly made her decision between Brand and Will in the first one, it seemed that the goal of this one was to provide more back story and to help us understand why Lilly is the way she is. Some people equate back story with boring, and I get that. Even though it focused more on Lilly’s purpose, there are some very sweet moments between she and Brand. Once again, I’m a little confused about some of the low ratings that other reviewers have given this book, but I guess to each his own.

Plot:
Lilly and Brand continue to search for the person who wants Lilly dead. Of course, as they get closer to finding out what they need to know, things become more dangerous. We also learn more about Lilly’s abilities and about her mother’s past and her grandparents (shocker there).

Characters:
In Blessed, we find that Lilly has grown stronger … in her abilities, in her relationships, and in her protectiveness of others. She’s also more proactive in this one. On the downside, she’s still very self-denigrating, which I don’t like, and at first, she was somewhat indecisive, but she pulled it together. Brand continues to be sweet, romantic Brand. I know a lot of people think Brand=bland because he seems a little too perfect. I think that’s because he’s trying really hard to make up for his past mistakes. That’s supposed to be a good thing. People also complained because Lilly and Brand decided to wait until they were married to consummate their relationship. For reasons I’m not going to go into, I just think that’s a really weird thing to complain about.

In terms of supporting characters, Will has actually become more broody and pouty in this one. I would like to see something good happen for him. Once again, I find Malcolm unnecessary and annoying, but to me, he’s comes across as less trustworthy. I guess we’ll see. Tara maintains the same sassy yet protective personality she did in Cursed. She appears to be accepting everything she found out. Unfortunately, she also experiences quite a few downers in this book, and she takes them really hard. Because she comes across as being so tough, I found that to be a little out of character, but she’s still likable. Finally, there’s Robert, who—for a good chunk of the book—appears to be the main threat. He’s still just as gross as he was when we met him.

We meet a couple of new characters. A character named Malik becomes part of the circle for reasons I can’t give without spoiling anything. We also meet Lilly’s grandmother, who tells us about her heritage.

Writing:
Many people complained that Blessed is very lovey-dovey. I usually don’t like that, but I can handle it in small doses. There continue to be frequent spelling/punctuation/grammatical errors but nothing so horrible that I wanted to throw my iPad against the wall.

The Bottom Line:
The book was good … not exceptionally great, but way better than horrible. It did serve its purpose … to provide us the information we will need to know for the final book and to get us more invested in the characters. I’ve already downloaded Forgiven and am really curious to find out the answers to the questions that the first two brought up.

Blessed
Book Two of the Watcher Trilogy
By Author S.J. West
29 June 2015

As I delved into the second book just a few hours after reading book one of Author S.J. West's Trilogy, I was immersed even further into her intricate world that she so eloquently weaved so perfectly. Just as the first book, I read until my eyes went blurry......I just couldn't put it down.

Her storyline continued to amaze me with every bit of intrigue that her first book in this series did. She never skips a beat. I laughed out loud, cried so hard and stressed over the parts that had my heart and mind racing, as I awaited the outcome.... Absolutely brilliant is all I can say!!!

I am downloading Book three as soon as I'm finished writing this review. I'm almost saddened at the fact that I'm about to read the final installment to the Trilogy Series.....

A truly overwhelming, intellectually stimulating and action pack read!!! A definite 5 STAR read!!! ~WaAr~

I love how this book picks up right where book one left off!! S.J. West writes an amazing storyline that just keeps you guessing and wanting more. But I do think it is a little heavy on background details. Nothing bad...just a lot. ;)

Anywhooooo, we get more of our wonderful cast, featuring Lilly Rayne Nightingale and Brandon Cole (I didn't really care for his nickname Brand---maybe if it was Bran it might not have bothered me but I just didn't understand why his full name wasn't used.) As you can see, I digress!! And we can't have a story with out the sexy Malcolm, mysterious Will, hilarious Tara, fun loving Abby, sweet Sebastian. I love the dynamics of these characters and can't wait to learn more about them as the story unfolds even more!!

So much more is unfolding in this storyline that I cannot give you details, you just have to read for yourself....Who is still trying to kill Lilly and why is Lucifer still trying to keep her alive??

On to the next one. ;)

These books are pretty ridiculous. The 18 year old main character talks and acts like a constantly shocked 65 year old woman.

She gets mad when the man in her life tells her what to do (which is good!) but has a really bizarre and codependent relationship with her best friend, where they both have a LARGE amount of say in how they live their lives. At one point she says that the best friend (Tara) can't date anyone unless she clears them! Seriously! But no one is allowed to tell her to stay out of dangerous situations that might get her killed.

I'm only reading these because I accidentally read the first book in the second trilogy that this is the first trilogy to and that wasn't quite so cringey.

I still like the story line and the new characters brought in. However, the over done descriptions of clothing and the meals dragged the pace a bit. As much as Malcolm is trying to sway Lilly, I was hoping for something stronger from Will. Since there's only one more book in the series, I'll finish the series.

I have to say the imagination and concept Ms West has come up with is phenomenal. I've read all the series related to this book and I couldn't put it down. Intrigue, romance, mystery, action packed fighting, drama, out of this world, hold on tight suspense. I highly recommend to all.

This is the second book in this series and I just want to say how much I'm in love with the book covers. They are just a beautiful cover and I absolutely fell in it in love with them before I even open the books. With that being said this book I honestly was giving a three and a half Stars only because it kept me motivated to read it I read it all in one day and you finally start to get some of the details of who really really is. You also get to find out who she chooses and why, and what is going to happen to her in the extent of finding out who everybody is and what they are trying to do to her. You still have your boys Malcolm brand and will still buying for Lily's love but when she makes her decision it's a decision that she will not regret. With all that being said there are new characters to join in and it's really weird because it's just bits and pieces as we're going on trying to find out who she is and why good and evil are both pursuing her. It does end in a cliffhanger again and I believe this is a trilogy so I'm on the third book and I'm hoping to see what happens I'm very interested on how it's going to end it could end in so many different ways and I'm curious on how the author is going to bring it all to a conclusion. I am in love with the characters they are you really need all of them to complete this story and it's just really good to see how they all intertwine in Lily's life. Can't wait to start the next book.

>Book Review – Blessed
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Watchers Trilogy and ends all up in the air. Lilly and Brand are now a couple. Will keeps trying to put doubts in Lilly’s head, which is annoying. Lilly seems committed to Brand, but then she is in doubt. She seems too young to be thinking of marriage, given the way she reacts to Will. The big questions – what is Lilly and who wants to kill her – are finally answered.
>The main theme of this book seems to be abstinence. I like that a book shows abstinence in young adults, but this story dwells on this aspect too much. A new character, Malik, is introduced and the truth about Abby is revealed. The story is turning into quite the religious tome. Angels, demons, God and Lucifer are all players in the game that is Lilly’s life.
>This book is appropriate for a new adult (18+) audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. There is a sexual assault that is disturbing. I also find the religious aspect of the story takes over the plot too much.

In this book Lilly and Bran are planning their future. Attempts at her life continue but this time we are getting closer to finding out who wants her dead. She finally learns about her mother’s past and got a chance to meet her grandparents learning about her family history. This brought to light a lot of answers. I will say I feel the story is getting very boring. There not a lot going on just them always talking about what could be happening but nothing is happening. Then towards the end her friends are all kidnapped and she’s finally facing the man who’s tied to kill her all her life. But now he’s decided to leave her alone. He hires someone to take her friends for no freaking reason just to tell her he’s not gonna try to kill her anymore. It kinda felt like deflating a ballon. Like we built up these books just to be disappointed. I will read the final book but it’s been a Boring time that’s why it only gets 3 stars

Ok, I struggled a bit with the first book because the 2 main female characters are so immature & get on my last nerve!! Especially Tara! She’s a bossy know it all that acts like Lilly’s mother. And Lilly needs her perfect boyfriend, Brand, to reassure her constantly that he loves her. I mean, come on!! It’s just crazy some of the things they say & do. They are definitely immature teenagers but they are in their 1st year at college & are roomies. And when Lilly goes on a date, Tara tells her date to have her home by 10:00 pm. REALLY????

The writing in both books just seem so bland. I was doing a lot of eye rolling while reading & asking myself, REALLY???, a lot. There is so much repetition & extra writing that is just so unnecessary.

I was so hoping that with this second installment in this series it would pick up the pace & give us readers some answers. The story has so much potential but OMG these characters are driving me insane & the writing seems to be geared more for 14 to 15 year olds.

I do want to know what happens next but I think I will just google it.

A great read!

I enjoyed this book a lot and cannot wait to read #3. Lilly and Brand's relationship grows deeper even with Malcolm and Will vying for her attention. Secrets from Lilly's past genealogy are revealed, and it took me by surprise! Her father is still unknown, though, maybe in the next book more will be told. Even with her family history laid out, no one really can say just exactly why Lilly has an effect on all entities she interacts with.

The last chapter caught me by surprise as well, and I was a little mad at first because I thought it was real and was mad that big of a gap was skipped. But, alas, another dream!

If you're reading this review in question of figuring out if you should read this book, then stop now and just read it! But I would start with #1 if you haven't read it.

Emma has no knowledge of her father or her grandparents. As she tries to discover why she effects the watchers in such a profound way it is suggested that it may be something is different in her genetic makeup. Upon closer examination it is revealed she is a descendent of Lilith not Eve. Lilith was the first woman created by God to be Adams equal and she refused to be subservient to him. Eve was made to be more docile and do his bidding. It was believed that all of Lilith’s children had been killed (except Emma) because they had a direct access to heaven and might be manipulated by Lucifer to get back into heaven.
Brand, Malcom and Will are all in love with Emma but only Brand is her soulmate. They plan to marry.
