Are you daring enough to have a frightfully funny and ghoulishly ghostly good time? If so, get ready for 101 of the most creepy and hilarious jokes, including Ghostly Giggles, Watch Out for Witches, Weird Menus, Black Cat Capers, and much more.
Melvin A. Berger's 1993 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes is never frightening, is lighthearted and is basically also totally quick-fire like in nature so to speak (in other words, the Halloween themed wit and humour of 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes consists of very short and thus generally only about one to three lines maximum in length featured textual tidbits). And yes, especially my inner child does find a goodly number of Berger's puns, riddles and jokes for 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes decently and sufficiently funny (not ever truly laugh-out-loud so but often enough to still leaving me at least rather mildly chuckling).
However, and yes, this is indeed a pretty heavy-duty however, and like is the case for me regarding many if not even most joke books with a specific theme (like Halloween in this case) and which are also first and foremost meant for younger readers, well, in my admittedly not so humble opinion, less would certainly, would most definitely be more and that it would thus be a lot better and a lot less tedious and repetitive if Melvin A. Berger would in 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes instead of almost one-hundred pages of Halloween humour (and according to the book title 101 specific jokes, puns and riddles) limit his inclusions to around forty or fifty maximum (for indeed, after fifty always very similar type of juvenile humour examples, both my inner child and even more so adult I were becoming pretty massively bored with 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes).
Finally, just to point out that much of 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes is also at best only somewhat truly and wholly hilarious and humour-filled, and as such is far far too often pretty much groan-worthy as well, so that especially for older children or for children whose sense of humour might be a little bit more sophisticated, 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes will likely cause considerably more eye-rolling than actual laughter. And yes indeed, for me, even my inner child has really only found around a quarter of what Melvin A. Berger presents in 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes truly humorous, that my three star rating for 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes is also from where I am standing hugely generous (but I guess I am glad that the jokes encountered in 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes are all not frightening, are not creepy and should also not be considered problematic for most parents and probably fun to share with young children, unless the families in question actually are spiritually and religiously totally against anything Halloween and ghost related and will thus reject 101 Spooky Halloween Jokes out of hand).
101 Spooky Halloween Jokes PLOT: Pretty much what the title implies. Nuff said!
MY THOUGHTS: A long time ago, I had a book that was thick, yellow, and had pages (and pages and pages) of jokes, riddles, and teasers and because I forgot the name of the book it's very unlikely I'll be able to find it. Which is a shame because I really liked that book. But this book reminds me a lot of that one. Only this one is Halloween themed only. Which since I LOVE Halloween I'm not complaining about in the least. This was a light read that gave my brain a holiday "treat" between the heavier, longer, ones. It's an easy read that can be finished in about 10 minutes or less and a good one if you need one to boost your reading goal.
