He had been cut out of his car in the middle of a traffic jam, dragged on board an alien spaceship and then been locked away in a cage.
After that he had been rescued by more aliens! But only to be dumped on an alien planet in an alien galaxy and left to figure out what to do with the rest of his life.
But there was nothing to figure out. The sights were indescribable. The smells intolerable. The food – even the stuff that was supposedly safe to eat – inedible. And the people unimaginable.
There was only one thing he knew. He wanted to go home. And if the aliens wouldn't take him back to Earth, then he would just have to buy a spaceship and damn well fly himself back there!
Regarding the title: Adrift. It's a bit misleading because to me, adrift means something like a lifeboat floating in the ocean without power. This didn't happen. He was, however, abducted, imprisoned, and on an alien planet with no way home. The story is how Bill overcame these seemingly impossible circumstances, found his way home, and saved others in the process. I loved it. The elements for a great story are all there and Curtis does an awesome job of developing characters surpassing Alice in Wonderland.
Ahh, yes, the old get abducted by aliens story, then get rescued, then ... wait. No, that's only the beginning. After our main character gets rescued, he makes the best of his situation, and not only learns how to cope in his new normal, but he also figures out how to help others while doing so, then following the best plan he can think of, he begins his search for home. Maybe not the best written story, but it's heartfelt, and it flows well. I liked it, and I'll most certainly read more in the series.
Very different, heroic with intrigue, could have used a brief love interest with a fellow captive. Also bean should have had some small ineffective weapons.
It's just too idealistic picture of future society with huge contradictions. Society is all nice and ideal with huge military police force. However book has its good moments and i did finish reading it.
Like the story and the main character. It was a bit obvious. The bad guy was very typical. I want more alien interaction.
Young adults as it is not very complicated. It is readable and I enjoyed parts of it. I didn't like the female lead character. It made her seem dumb and was kind of chauvinistic.
This story of a alien abducted guy was horrifying. First he is abducted, then rescued by alien police who have no idea where Earth is. Then being the only human in a group of many different alien species, try to make a life for himself. Great completed Story.
Mistakes: I lost track. I know that I found three on the first page.
Plot: Abducted in broad daylight by aliens, the Mc is rescued by alien police. He then spends his time mining and looking for earth. A lot of the plot didn’t make sense if you stopped to think about it.
Characters: I didn’t like the Mc. He spent a lot of time just being afraid. By the time he started doing anything interesting I didn’t really care.
Exactly the kind of SciFi story I love, interesting characters, lots of detail and not constant shoot 'em ups! A very satisfying ending too. Thanks for putting such a great read on Kindle Unlimited Mr. Curtis!
Parts of this book i loved but some parts got kind of voting, like when he kept thinking of the other people from earth. Maybe he needed to be doing some fighting but then I guess it was not his style.
I love quirky sci-fi! Addict is the Basildon abduction story with some fun twists and turns...well worth the read. I look forward to more adventures from Greg Curtis.
