It's time for Jess to find out who she truly is. Or rather, what she truly is.
Jess now knows that something dark and powerful slumbers inside her. But just how dark? And just how powerful?
Some say the power inside her will make her utterly irresistible to everyone who looks at her, causing an obsession closer to religious ecstasy than mere desire. They say it will give her the power to control the minds and hearts of others with a single word, a single glance.
Others say it will make her so dangerous that her loved ones will turn against her one by one, and that her enemies will raise a whole army of assassins to make sure she does not live to grow into her full power. They say it will lead to heartbreak, death, mania, betrayal and torture.
But they’re wrong.
The truth is far, far worse.
This is the second book of the Dark Dragon Chronicles.
WARNING: This book contains strong language. Suitable for older YA readers.
Book 2 of the Dark Dragon Chronicles takes the series to a whole new level of excitement and complexity. This installment is not just a placeholder in the series by any means. The author, Ripley Harper, is a story teller par excellence. She combines the ability to capture and hold the reader's attention and interest with a unique facility to use the narrative to expose readers to philosophical and ethical ideas, concepts and dilemmas.
Jess Sarkany begins not only to understand what she is and the extent of her magical and ancient heritage, but how to tap into the reservoir of fantastical power at her beck and command. But this knowledge and power does not come without cost or shock. Also, she begins to question the motives and loyalties of those around her, friends, relatives and foes alike. She evolves from the naive, clueless, adolescent of the first book into a more suspicious but no less caring and loving person.
She learns that she is more than human, much more and discovers that she is sharing her consciousness with another entity and that she has to learn how to strike a balance with this frightful and powerful alternate self.
The is really an exceptional story, both in its contents and the way in which it is told. There are not many books I can say this about.
I am in awe of the way the author managed to take so many different ideas and aspects of different genre's and blend them together.
The book is about magic, love, terror, mystery, horror and so much more. Jess is just an ordinary girl who has discovered that she has magic. Through the course of the book she discovers secrets of herself and about those around her. In doing so she experiences betrayal, heartbreak, torture, and more.
I would recommend this book to all who love the paranormal genre.

The main character is Jess, a woman who can be looked at in two ways. She might be a wonderful person who nearly everyone loves. On the other hand she might be a very, very dangerous person who others want to kill.
She needs to find out which it is.
The school has burned down, she has a bodyguard now who, unfortunately, hates her and calls her a monster. (Not exactly the type of person you would want as a bodyguard. You might need a bodyguard to protect you from the bodyguard.)
Then there are slayers, something called shine struck, a video of her doing something that paints her as a hero, a White Lady who is totally evil and she has training in the use of fire magic and genetic memory.
She finds out just what she is, her bodyguard threatens to kill her (again) and there's a vicious online attack against her.
Then there's her future she has to consider. A future which could see a very major change in her, assuming she lives long enough to even have a future.
A neat book with interesting characters, a lot of things going on a good amount of strangeness.
Jess's powers and everything that goes on, continues to overwhelm her
What do you do when you realize you have magic, that magic is real, and you cannot control it??? The world that Jess lives in looks like ours, sounds like ours, and even smells like ours, until the moment it doesn't. Then she is trapped in her body with a stranger, and she cannot control anything. The story is set perfectly, you find yourself confused as to what is happening inside her, and what she can do to free herself. This is the only way she can discover what she truly is. You feel, taste, touch, and even smell her surroundings....it is a total immersion into her world. One where you root for her to break free, ans find who she truly is.
Well written characters that make you laugh and cry that you fall in love with and get indignant about when bad things happen to them. A story full of impulsive young people that want to be in charge and adults that just want control and the meeting in the middle. That a monstrous outside does not always make a monster. A well written story that is hard to put down from the first word what a wonderful writer.
Jess is starting to learn more about her powers and then she has to be whisked away for safety. She meets back up with Daniel and Gunn is back. She has place several people under her shine and has to reverse it. In this book she learns what she really is and what the Pendragons really are too. Good read

A ordinary girl is a dragon.? Come on now. Looking forward to the next book to see what happens. I feel really bad for Jess, she seems to think she has an awful life and can’t figure out what to do.
What can I say, but to say I really enjoy this book. Usually, I never like second installment to a series bc the are mostly letdowns. This book was surprisingly good.
This is one of those ‘devour in one go’ series of books, so I just lost myself in the Dark Dragon world for a full Saturday. While a lovely light read, I’m so struck by Harper’s ability to spin a supernatural yarn into a really thoughtful take on women and their relationship to power.
