Into the belly of the beast! Canto consults with the Hermit and learns the surprising truth about the slavers. Canto’s path is now laid out before him, but is he prepared to face a foe known only as the Shrouded Man?
Some heavy revelations and answers abound from a surprising source by the name of "The Hermit" in this issue as our hero ventures further in his quest after making a deadly and unlikely friend. Very good artwork as usual and the story is shaping up nicely.
Ever read something, have a moment of revelation in the plot, and feel like a dope for not seeing it sooner but also delighted by being fooled? I'm tickled by that in this issue of Canto. We get some of the world's backstory and it gets clearer to the reader that this world is based on a corrupted Oz--a yellow-brick road is the main "highway" between places, Canto is now told to seek an all-powerful man in an emerald city, and only now I'm realizing that Canto himself and his friends are all little tin men in search of their missing hearts. Bravo, Booher, well done! This world could feel like yet another derivative of the "original American fairy tale" (such was L Frank Baum's goal in creating the Oz stories) but this world is definitely doing it's own thing with it and I am delighted to only just realize it! That's a mark of successful creativity. Eagerly awaiting more.
