William Green (1927 – 2 January 2010) was an aviation and military author, following service with Britain's Royal Air Force, where he wrote for the Air Training Corps Gazette (later to be become the Air Pictorial).
Green was Technical Director to the RAF Flying Review, and then Editorial Director when it became Flying Review International. In 1971 he and Gordon Swanborough jointly created the monthly Air International, of which he remained Managing Editor until late 1990.
Green edited numerous editions of Observers book of Aircraft and spent most of his adult life doing research and writing on aircraft and aviation. His work Warplanes of the Third Reich is seen as a classic aviation publication. Along with Gordon Swanborough, he also wrote several books for Salamander Books including The Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Worlds Commercial Aircraft, Illustrated Anatomy of the World's Fighters and Flying Colours.

Another great look at WW2 Aircraft with William Green this time teaming up with Gordon Swanborough, in this edition of WW2 Aircraft Fact Files, which allows Green to go into immense detail on some of the lesser known aircraft of World War II, in these volumes. This, Part 1 looking exclusively at British Fighters, from and Gl to G (Boulton-Paul Defiant and Bristol Blenheim and Beaufighter to the Gloster Meteor), does NOT cover the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire (I look forward to those in Volume 2) but the immense detail in the examination of the fighter versions of the Blenheim, Mosquito and odd prototype only twin engined fighters, and the Gloster Gauntlet and Gladiator were fascinating. Both early British jet fighters, the De Haviland Vampire and Gloster Meteor are also covered. Green's inimitable detail, research and descriptions are boosted by the artwork and drawings including cutaways of Swanborough, making this a concise Volume packed with detail. It builds on his earlier great work and fills gaps left by the premature termination of this Aircraft of World War 2 handbooks.

Published in 1978, 'RAF Fighters Part 1' is another in the 'WW2 Aircraft Fact Files' by Macdonald and Jane's. This volume covers some of my favourite types by Bristol and Gloster, so I admit to being biased in giving it one of my better ratings by to be fair Green has done a nice job of them here.
