Egg

Rate this book
A hilarious picture book about a non-conforming Egg from the bestselling Supertato creators Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. Important This book is not like other books. This is a book that even the smallest children can read. This is a book which will stretch your imagination, celebrate difference and fire up your storytelling brain. This is a book with just one word . . . Egg.When an odd egg turns up with a big head and a pointy bottom, the other eggs don't know what to make of it. Can they make the odd egg conform to Normal Egg Standards? The other eggs try turning it upside down, and even make it wear a hat on its bottom to show which side is 'up', but it takes the clever upside-down egg to show them that eggs can be any way up and still be eggs.Perfect for Easter, or any time of the year, children will love telling the story themselves, looking at the pictures and using different voices for the various 'egg's. Plus the egg-shaped format adds to the eggy fun!

BRILLIANT!!! Beginning to wonder if I have a childish taste in books, but this book is excellent. Not only does the entire book contain only one word, making it easy for children to read and follow along, it covers really topical subjects such as friendship, inclusion and it’s ok to be different. Good to highlight how punctuation can change one word. I loved it

I do like a wordless picture book as it encourages the reader to create their own story around the images in-front of them. Egg is a funny tale about an egg that is laid to stand out.

When an egg turns up that is round at the top and pointy at the bottom, the regular eggs do not know what to think. Should they accept the egg as it is or try and make it look like them? Will turning it upside down help? What about if they dress it up and but a hat on its bottom? Or perhaps odd egg can teach the regular eggs that you can be an egg regardless of what way up you are.

This wordless picture book, not counting the word ‘EGG’, is all about fitting in and being accepted by others. Being a wordless book this story is all about the illustrations and Sue Hendra & Paul Linnet have conveyed their message about accepting others in a light-hearted and entertaining way. The story is simple enough but there are opportunities for wider discussion about the need to conform to the expectations that society has and celebrating differences.

Mr 5 enjoyed this. Loves the way it’s only one work so he ‘read’ the book himself- it also shows how you say different words gives meaning. Nice story about what makes you the same as someone else etc.
