I gave the rumor mill fodder for a lifetime the day I walked away from a lucrative music career without explanation.
People can talk all they like; my record stores are my lifeblood now, and I’m devoted solely to keeping them afloat in the digital age. There’s just one little thing distracting me: an earth-dwelling sunbeam named Owen Harper. I don’t know what I was thinking when I hired him. In fact, maybe I wasn’t thinking at all.
Quirky and excitable, he’s a walking, talking danger to fragile objects. His energy alone could power a small country. That’s never been my style. Hell, I was probably cutting my first album while he was cutting teeth. He wants a music career, and I’m done with all that. We couldn’t be on more opposite paths.
He’s other things, too, though. Things that keep me up late at night. Things that make me forget I’m supposed to be simplifying.
And damn does he love to push my buttons.
Now I’m struggling to resist his pull, drowning in the memory of his skin under my hands, his mouth on mine. His laugh.
When a long shadow from my past comes calling with an offer I’d be stupid to refuse, there’s more on the line than the survival of the shops I’ve dedicated the last fifteen years of my life to.
Because those fragile objects I mentioned earlier? One of them might well be my heart.
Resonance is the second book in the Rhythm of Love series, and can be read as a standalone. It’s a steamy slow burn bisexual age-gap, boss/employee romance with lots of banter and two obstinate heroes who really, really don’t want to want the very thing they both need.
Neve Wilder lives in the southern U.S., where the summers are hot and the winters are...sometimes cold. She is a mom to three rambunctious weebeasts who have joined forces in a mission to carpet the family home with toys and small items that really suck to step on at six in the morning.
She reads promiscuously, across multiple genres, but her favorite stories always contain an element of romance. Incidentally, this is also what she likes to write. Slow-burners with delicious tension? Yes. Whiplash-inducing page-turners, also yes. Down and dirty scorchers? Yes. And every flavor in between.
Neve isn't keen on being limited to one type of story or a single genre. If you enjoy slow burns and musicians, the Rhythm of Love series might be up your alley.
You'll find high heat, crackling sexual tension, and a variety of angst levels in the new adult Extracurricular Activities series that begins with Want Me.
Like smart-ass antiheroes and super steamy thrill rides? Stay tuned for the upcoming Wages of Sin series, which begins with Bad Habits.
If you need a good cry, Center of Gravity is a standalone age-gap slow burn that examines grief, enduring love, and imperfect characters doing their best (or worst, as it were) in shitty situations.
Neve fervently believes David Bowie was the sexiest musician to ever live, and she's always game to nerd out on anything from music to writing.
And finally, she believes that love conquers all. Except the heat index in July. Nothing can conquer that bastard.

"Owen was a walking talking caffeine buzz in a disco club, while I was a guy who'd prefer the peace and quiet of a funeral parlor."
I didn't start reading m/m romance until early this year. Neve Wilder was one of the first authors I instantly loved. Her writing has the perfect blend of feels, snark, sexiness and heart. Both Want Me and Dedicated are among my favorite books of the year. So when I heard that the next book in her, "Rhythm of Love," series was coming out and would be about Dan Grim, the curmudgeonly record store owner from, "Dedicated," I was excited. Maybe more than excited...
"Resonance," reunites us with Dan Grim, who was a big help to my babies Les and Evan in, "Dedicated." I should note that it could totally be read without reading, "Dedicated." However, why would you want to do that to yourself? You'd be missing out. Dan is trying to keep his record stores alive in the digital age. He's also got a bit of a chip on his shoulder from a musical and personal partnership that ended badly. Then we have Owen who works for Dan. He's bright and sparkly but jumpy and has his own demons. Owen has been crushing on Dan for ages. Dan is drawn to Owen too but the age gap between them and Owen being Dan's employee make him reluctant to let anything happen. I don't want to say too much more, plot wise, because too many spoilers take away from the enjoyment of discovering a beautiful story.
I will say that, "Resonance," had everything I've come to expect in a Neve Wilder book.
Snark and humor "'So you're gonna withhold compliments because I'm trying to make the smart choice here? Is that the size of it?' His grip on me loosened, and then fell away altogether. 'I don't know the size of it yet, because you're holding out like a prim old Victorian lady.'"
Heat and sexiness "Dan kept his eyes on me, gaze intent, and maybe we leaned at the same time, I didn't know. My spine felt like a wick touched with a flame, sparks and promise crackling through me."
"Dan's lips were hot, sweet with cola and whiskey, and fucking soft. Soft like I'd never imagined they'd be for all the time they liked to spend in a scowl."
And feels "I'd miss it while I was gone. Funny how you could get so used to loneliness you hardly noticed it anymore until someone else flipped the spotlight on the dark hollows it'd carved out inside you."
So just read it. You won't regret it!

Resonance by Neve Wilder is a fairly angst-free romance between an older former recording artist and his younger employee.
There was a lot to enjoy about this one:
-Alternating POVs -Age gap -Bisexual rep -I loved Dan and Owen. Dan is older, private, and more reserved. Owen is in his twenties but been through a lot. He's clumsy and rambles a lot and although I sometimes find that annoying- I didn't find it overdone here. Together they were perfect. -Slow burn -Great cast of secondary characters -Hot chemistry -Humor -And lots of emotions.
I did enjoy book 1 more, but that's because I enjoyed the angst and the intense feelings between Les and Evan. I found Resonance to be kind of lacking in intensity, BUT that's because IT FITS this group of characters. It comes down to personal taste.
All in all, Resonance is an excellent addition to the Rhythm of Love series.
Resonance (Rhythm of Love #2) by Neve Wilder is a layered and spellbinding story about Owen a 24 years old , bundle of delightful contradictions , aspiring singer/songwriter and Dan a 40 years old, Country Music Legend, set on his ways.
A slow burn romance , told in dual POV , with emotional depth, appealing main and secondary characters , strong storylines, hilarious banter and hot AF sexy times.
An eloquent , heartwarming and well-crafted book, kind you hate to put down and especially hate to finish
Neve Wilder has the talent to play on readers' heartstrings in ways that compel them to laughter and tears, and allows them to establish a deep emotional attachment to her characters.
Resonance ,book 2, in the Rhythm of Love series, can be read as standalone. Yet, you will enjoy it more , if you read and/or listen Dedicated , book 1, first.
I cannot recommend enough this book as is the type of tale you know , you'll be reading again and again because it makes you feel good , believe that true love really does exist and everyone can have a HEA.
I received an early copy of Resonance and am voluntarily leaving a review.
41 year old and 24 year old. I like the combo. I like a manly man (at least 1) in my romances. Dan was definitely that.
Owen was cute. Not so much a "twink", more a sweet dandelion fluff.
It was slow at parts, but that's prob bc this is focused on the romance and relationship development vs. any major plot, or even lots of never ending sex (as in some of this author's other books). I kinda missed the more copious sex (maybe it's the mood I'm in). That's why it seemed kinda slow.
OMG Owen is super cute, no wonder Dan's smitten with him, including his blabbering and his clumsy behavior in daily basis. Even Ru called Owen 'sunshine'. Owen is a life of Dan's boring life, but he's also his employee. Something Dan wouldn't be step on. The boundaries is thick (?), but the two guys couldn't help themselves. They cannot stop wanting each other. I loved the chemistry between Dan and Owen, and how natural and smooth Owen became Dan's whole world. I really enjoyed Dan and Owen's story, despite of the music talking that mostly I don't understand. LOL.
Another great narration from Nick J. Russo. Yes, there were some niggles...especially when Ryder became Ryan [??], but other than that, a really nice audio narration. Good voices for both Dan and Owen.
***Book Review***
This one compared to Dedicated?? As alike as chalk and cheese 😜. This was sooo much better than book 1 of this series [for me anyhoo], and I think it could probably be read as a standalone if you wanted, although you would be missing out on some of the backgrounds to various characters. This is a well-written, fairly angst-free zone story 🎉🎉🎉. 4.5 stars and 💜💛💙💚🧡 hearts from me.
A lovely slow-burn romance between Daniel, 40 something owner of Grim's record store in Nashville and former recording star, and his younger, ditzy employee Owen, whom I absolutely loved. Dan came with baggage aplenty, and although he was aware of Owen, thought it best to keep strictly to employer/employee rules, but he couldn't resist being pulled into Owen's orbit 😍... We have a teeny, tiny catch-up with Les and Evan of Dedicated, meet Dan's younger waste of space brother Aiden, and get to know some of the artists that Dan calls friends although he is a fairly private guy.
Hope the next one is about Aiden and Jessup Polk...there should be fireworks. 😉
Resonance picks up after the first book in the Rhythm of Love series, Dedicated, and for the most part works on its own. Dan and Owen are both introduced in the earlier book, and I appreciated knowing the connection to Les and Evan from the first book and the mystery that everyone thinks surrounds Dan for leaving his music career behind.
Dan knows all things music. I really liked the setting here with his music stores and his and Owen’s intense background and love for many genres of music. Dan loves his stores and the collectible items he sells, and he enjoys still being connected to the music world on the periphery. He never dealt with what happened between him and Ryder, and Dan has been in a holding pattern for years that has become so natural, he has no idea how to break free from it.
Owen and Dans relationship is one of the few thet i love in the age-difference trope, and i loved the sweet and tender way they rolled slowly thoward relationship here. But i find that the story didnt engage me as much on the secund read, i still loved it, just not as much as the first read.
Listen, no one is more shocked than myself that I ended up quitting this novel. ESPECIALLY since I'd enjoyed two other books by this author.
And yet doing that made total sense to me.
One thing I was v. appreciative in this book was that the age gap trope was 100% valid. Dan was 41 while Owen was 25. So, whenever Dan thought or said that he was a mature dude, it was him stating facts. (The amount of times I've rolled my eyes at so-called age gap romances featuring a 22 y.o. falling for a 27 y.o., let me tell you. #LOLsob).
Unlike what I've read by this author, the writing lacked the same pizzazz that had made me <3____<3 her novels.
If I was to point out to the three specific reasons why I gave up on this book, though…
1. Owen is a Cinnamon Roll (of the worst kind)
FTR, I do like pairings in which one character is grumpy and the other one is a ray of sunshine. The "opposite attracts" angle is neat as long as there is some balance to each character. Meaning that the grumpy character being prickly 100% of time is tiresome to read and the same goes for the ray of sunshine character (to the point that they become a Manic Pixie Character.)
Sadly, Owen's overtly enthusiasm and klutziness went straight into stereotypical character in a generic sitcom. Adding to that was that he'd blurt out the most irritating things all the time. The most memorable one (due to the worst reasons possible) was when called Dan a "road trip Nazi". It was meant as a joke but it left a really bad taste in my mouth.
Once you put everything together, he ended up sounding more like a 15-year old than someone who is in their mid-20s.
2. The Boss/Employee thing (Hmmm)
This is one romance trope that I tend to feel skittish about. The inherent power imbalance is one I have a difficult time ignoring.
That's not to say that there aren't any Boss/Employee romances I have enjoyed (because I know I've read and given positive reviews to a few). Just that it takes a while for me to suspend my disbelief. Especially if…
3. The lack of chemistry (like a wet blanket buried in snow)
As soon as the book began, I had the feeling that there was a v. aggressive push for how Dan and Owen were meant to be. Unfortch, I didn't see anything that would back that idea up. So there were a few times I found myself wondering what was Owen going to bring into the relationship. If I sat down and thought abt it for a bit, I could sort of figure that Dan could help Owen with getting a foothold on the music business.
However, I didn't feel any sparkage between them. Like, even after they kissed for the first time (which was something that had built up like whoa), my reaction was SHRUUUUUUUUUG.
At which point I realized that bouncing was the best option.
TL;DR: A v. disappointing novel where too many things (one of the protags, the Boss/Employee trope, and the absence of any heat between the MCs) led me to drop this novel.
I'm super aware this is a dissenting opinion. Although I'm sure the book might've picked up in future chapters, I didn't see any reason why I should've pushed through my meh when there are so many other books to enjoy.
Neve Wilder has knocked it out of the park again with book two of her rocker romance series. I was intrigued by Dan in book one, Dedicated, and was psyched when I saw the blurb for Resonance.
Dan is a strong, silent type. He's private, but caring about the ones he loves. It was lovely getting to know him and his past.
In direct contrast to Dan's personality, Owen was a sweet surprise. He's loud, exuberant, open about his feelings, and endearingly clumsy. I loved him!
They are both proud, and that sometimes got in the way of them getting together but, once they did, it was magic. And the sexy times were scorching! (That sauna scene! WOW!)
I also enjoyed the brief cameos by Les and Evan. I listened to the audio of Dedicated right after reading Resonance because I missed those two.
Fingers crossed Ryder gets a chance to tell his story next!
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this quite a bit more than the first in the series, although it's only a series because it's about musicians in Nashville, not because the books are related in any real way. Anyway, this was low-drama and low-angst but still had a melancholy feel about it. Wilder writes beautifully though.
Liked this way more than I thought since it wasnt narrated by Greg Boudreaux like the first one.
I do wish we had more background on Owens past than the snip it’s we got and same goes for Dan and his brother. I felt like those were lacking, having more background info on the characters would have made this higher in the ratings.
I really liked their banter though, they played off each other well and you could feel their chemistry which was refreshing.
Overall well worth the read if you liked book one.

Resonance did not disappoint. And by "did not disappoint" I mean I absolutely loved it. Quite frankly, I dove into the book hoping it would live up to my high expectations after the author had captured my attention with Dedicated. I've loved her various other releases, but I can't lie, this series has a special place in my heart.
I found Resonance to be a hefty, satisfying May-Dec opposites attract romance between a colorful twink with no filter and his broody boss. It had a slowburn that had me drowning of desperation, even as I laughed at the cheeky banter between the two heroes. I really enjoyed seeing the way Owen broke through Dan's prickly exterior with sheer persistence and pep. I also liked witnessing their attraction bloom, from the one-sidedness of Owen's crush to their quiet, mutual desire for each other. But most of all I loved the way they slowly opened their lives and their hearts to each other despite old scars and inherent fears.
Through Dan's former fame and Owen's musical aspirations, the book gave us a nice glimpse into the music machine that is Nashville. The fact that Les and Evan made several key appearances was a lovely touch, and I am dying for Ru and Quinn's story (I'm guessing there's a novella out there that I must have missed?). It goes without saying that I'm looking forward to the next book, which if I had to guess, will feature Dan's brother Aiden and the mystery musician Jessup Polk. And if I'm totally wrong, then I'm just putting it out there into the universe.
Owen was such a sweet man. Total lack of a filter and I loved his reactions to Dan. Dan gave up his music career for various reasons. Not ready to accept another man in his life, Owen just barrels in and takes over. Owen basically didn’t stand a chance. This was a nice story with great characters
There were some points when I found myself a bit bored but other than that I thought it was great . Also I loved seeing Les and Evan again even if it was only briefly.
I was beyond excited when Neve announced the release of this book! Since their appearance in Light Touch- and later on Dedicated - I was very intrigued by Daniel Grim the record store owner with an aura of mystery and a past equally curious and Owen Harper, the babbling cute aspiring singer, and also his employee. And the wait was definitely worth it! All the feels for this story, an amazing slow burn with some hurt/comfort between two people so different and yet so perfect for each other!
I really loved their interactions, the talks, the flirt. The spark was there and it was obvious; but both had much to loose (or so they thought), and it was nice to see them tiptoeing around the attraction they were obviously feeling until one day it exploded, and let me tell you… HOT HOT HOT, Neve Wilder style. If you’re not convinced by now, here’s a quick a innocent spoiler: sauna sex. You’re welcome :)
Neve has a way with words, I feel like I’m part of the story instead of just a reader. I could see myself on the locations she describes in the book, the songs, the vibe! And I cheered with the couple, laughed with them, felt their pain sometimes… I just couldn’t drop the book, once I started I only stopped on that very last word, not even caring it was 3 a.m and I had to be up for work at 6am. But hey, that’s what’s coffee is for, right? To keep us awake in moments like this <3
This book is awesome, perfect, well written and one of those that will go to my reread shelf for sure. Full of good references, awesome conversations and much much loved dirty talk - I mean... vein porn!! - Resonance is to me 5 stars and many many more!!!
Resonance can be read as a standalone, but I HIGHLY recommend you read Dedicated if you haven’t! Les and Evan are out of this world too with the chemistry and the sexy times! Loved Les&Evan showing up on the story, just like Quinn&Ru (God I missed those two crazy dudes! Neve, I think we need another short with them!!)
“God Almighty. He was a guy for whom exclamation points were invented” This sums up Dan & Owen <3
Love does come from unexpected places and people sometimes!
A bubbly, quirky sometimes accident-prone, lovely young musician/sales assistant Owen. A tired and disillusioned musician and record store owner. One so out of his depth and the other jaded and just want some peace and quiet, for the rest of his life, if possible. Or so he thought.
Owen is an aspiring musician and composer. He is lively, too full of energy and sweet and thoughtful. But whenever he tries to sing his own songs in front of people, he freezes. And he has been crushing on his boss for a while now. I love how his character is bright with a very sunny disposition despite what he has gone through when he was a child.
Dan is jaded, left his partner in the singing business, and just stopped his music. He has been living the life of a record store owner for a long while now. He does not talk about what happened to his career much. But having Owen in his store and in his life is somehow affecting change in his views and generally, in his life.
Will these two beautiful souls find in themselves the courage to go after their dreams and desires. A slow burn romance that will endear you to both Dan and Owen and their lovable personal traits and how they overcome everything in order to have what they desire. Congratulations Ms. Neve Wilder, another beautiful love story, loving it so much! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow!! I loved this book!! My nose was burried deep in my kindle and I didn't even want to take a break to sleep. Who's needs sleep anyway? Sleep is for the weak. Also it was the day before my final exam, so the author will take responsibility for that.(I'm kidding but not really)
I wanted Dan's story so bad since I read Dedicated. And this book is everything and more. I love Owen so much, especially how he has no brain-to-mouth filter. His brain is just a roller coaster. And the intensity and chemistry when they are together on page!!! Whoa!! Smoking hot!🔥🔥
This is dual POV and second in the series but it's a standalone novel. I lo ve Neve's writing. Infact she hooked me when I first read Dedicated. She makes it feel so real.
It was fun to meet Ru and Quinn! Is it just me or is something going on with Aiden and John??
I love friends to lovers and second chance romances but Owen and Dan belong together. I did feel really sad for Ryder. On that note, will he get a book? Pretty pretty please? We also meet Les and Evan from the first book, which made me want to read their book again.
Highly recommended!!

Neve Wilder is one of my favorite new talents. Owen is a manic pixie dream boy. Dan is an older millennial country boy who's into rock, flannel, and cowboy style. An age-gap, opposites attract love story.
Dan's spent way too long nursing a broken heart. Owen's never belonged to anyone, filling his life with abandoned and gently loved offcasts. But somehow, they match. The loud and shiny pieces of Owen fill the lonely silences and gently worn soft spots in Dan's life.
A charming and organic look at gay romance in the American heartland. Neve Wilder makes you feel like you're walking through a musty smelling record store with uneven floors, bells over the door, and narrow rows lined with record sleeves and music memorabilia. Re-reads are a given.
"So you're gonna withhold compliments because I'm trying to make the smart choice here? Is that the size of it?" His grip on me loosened, and then fell away all together. "I don't know the size of it yet, because you're holding out like a prim old Victorian lady."
Resonance was a sugary-sweet and surprisingly funny second installment to Wilder's Rhythm of Love series. Owen seemed like a strange choice for a MC based on his character in Dedicated but he quickly grew on me with his words and color.
Dan kept his eyes on me, gaze intent, and maybe we leaned at the same time, I didn't know. My spine felt like a wick touched with a flame, sparks and promise crackling through me, and I couldn't fucking believe this was about to happen. But boy, was I on board with it.
I think that ever time I picture Dan, I'm seeing some hot version of Deacon from Nashville - anyone else? I enjoyed the age-gap between Dan and Owen, and really appreciated that
My only complaint is the length of the book. I kind of think Wilder could cut ~50 pages in the middle of things and save some of the middling back and forth.
This was pretty low angst almost boring but I was in the mood for an easy read so it worked well for me. The characters felt genuine - Dan did act like a 41year old! I’m so over being told a character is in their 40 years yet they talk and act like they are still in their 20’s 🙄 and Owen was insecure and awkward but in a normal way, not in an over the top irritating way. From these two books I’ve read from this author I like how she writes genuine believable characters who have normal backstories and their isn’t some ridiculous over the top plot lines thrown in unnecessarily. It’s been refreshing.
I don’t normally love age gap romances but this felt fine. I would’ve appreciated something more from the appearances of Les and Evan. They felt a bit anticlimactic after all the hype about them in the last book. I will admit at 53% I glanced down and wondered where this book was going but then it got better, I do wish there had been a teeny bit more drama with the Ryder situation I was expecting something more here.
A nice follow-up to the first book featuring a different couple this time, Dan and Owen. They were introduced in the prequel (Ru and Quinn's book), glimpses of them in Evan and Les's story too, and as I read through I didn't get lost as a reader.
I loved Owen's no filter mouth and Dan's dry but no-nonsense take on most things. I enjoyed reading about their everyday lives and it sucked me into the world of music. The boss-employee relationship they had was comfortable especially after they were able to do the podcasts together with Ru. I had fun reading each transcript before the chapter starts, those parts made me smile.
Owen had a crush on Dan way back when he started in the shop and it got stronger as they got to know each other more. Dan started having feelings too and I was glad it led to them finding love in each other.
This was lighter and less angsty than the first book but a satisfying story until the very end.
This book was a delicious read! I am glad I gave it a chance after not really feeling the characters in Dedicated, the first book in the Rhythm of Love series. There is just something so tantalizing about the age gap romance and Neve Wilder does Owen and Dan justice.
I loved the character contrast, while they may vastly differ in life experiences and age, there is also an undercurrent that brings these two together. Their loneliness called out to each other, with two characters who are so alone in life, I adored the solace they found with each other. It was endearing and while they definitely had undeniable chemistry, it took them a while to acknowledge their feelings.
Both Owen and Dan grew as characters over the course of the story. Dan working through some past hang ups he had and Owen working on finding himself. In the end it was just a sexy, lovely read at times a little heavy but mostly fluffy, sweet goodness.
I need Neve to write more books STAT cause every time I read something else from her I devour it and need more immediately.
Anyway
This was fun!
Book one is this series is one of my absolute favourite reads from this year, and while I didn’t enjoy this quite as much, I still really liked it. It’s got a lot of good things I like: - grumpy/sunshine - age gap - rockstar - M/M
Owen is such a cute character I really enjoyed his word vomit and the level of sass he gave Dan constantly. And it was so nice to watch Dan get a personality when Owen coaxed him back to life a bit lmao.
Also it’s not full on rockstar romance like book one is but sort of a second chance rockstar moment which was still really enjoyable and nice to read.
I did feel like we sort of rushed through the ending a little, the love declarations coming pretty thick and strong there at the end, but I didn’t mind it cause they were cute anyways ❤️❤️❤️
This was the second book in the Rhythm of love series. I loved the first book (Dedicated), because I loved Les and Evan and their dynamics. Now I already know Neve can write hot stories, where the sex is an important part, but not THE MOST important part. There's always a lot more to the story than that. I think it's the combination of both the characters, the story which develops throughout the book, and the hot and steamy scenes that make her books so enjoyable. Having said that, I have to admit I struggled a bit in the beginning of this book. It took me a few chapters to get the feeling, to have the story pulling me in and at a certain point I was afraid it wouldn't happen. But then...it just did. And I couldn't put it down after that and, despite that wonky start, there was no other option than to rate this book 5 stars. Because it sucked me in, completely. I loved how Dan's and Owen's story developed, to watch their love grow. The way they were together, so completely different from one another and still binding over their love for music and everything that comes with that. Yes, sometimes you just need to keep yourself from giving up and just continue reading and then you find a story that's beyond everything you expected.
I highly recommend these series if you like rockstars and music; it's totally worth your time.
At times a bit heavy on the angst but i loved this book anyway. The setting and situations were unique and the characters were well thought out. And Wilder's writing is absolutely beautiful in this, elevating what should be a simple romance into something more, a fascinating meditation on creativity and love and relationships as a creative endeavor unto themselves.
