The editor/author puts together a series of essays describing the meaning Black August and the local struggle in San Diego. She is able to compile different voices who active participants in liberation work. This book is very informative, but it calls us into action to actively participate for a better world.

Black August presents an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of revolutionary political prisoners, as well as the organized rebellions against slavery put forth by Africans of the past.
