We often talk about our Savior Jesus Christ and God the Father, but how much do we really know about the Holy Ghost, the third member of the Godhead? On the other hand, can we imagine doing anything in the Church without the guidance or influence of the Holy Ghost? The Holy Spirit is intimately involved in every aspect and facet of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is, for example, a revelator, teacher, testifier, comforter, agent of the new birth, sanctifier, and sealer, to mention only a few of His roles. Unlike more inspirational explorations of the Holy Ghost, Robert L. Millet’s The Holy Spirit focuses on the person of the Holy Ghost and examines His varied assignments in a way that is both spiritually strengthening and intellectually enlarging. Nothing has been written for decades about the Holy Spirit with so much breadth and depth. In The Holy Spirit , you’ll *Sound doctrine about the Holy Ghost that is in harmony with scripture and latter-day prophets. *Personal experiences and inspiring stories from our history to help us both understand and draw upon the Holy Ghost in our lives. *A helpful reference of prophetic teachings about the Spirit and His role in our lives.
Robert L. Millet, professor of ancient scripture and former dean of Religious Education at Brigham Young University, holds a master s degree in psychology from BYU and a Ph.D. in religious studies from Florida State University. He is a popular speaker and prolific writer whose other books include Lost and Found: Reflections on the Prodigal Son; Grace Works; and More Holiness Give Me. He and his wife, Shauna, have six children and live in Provo, Utah.
I have always enjoyed listening to Robert Millet’s speeches and as a guest on podcasts. He is a remarkable, intelligent, educated and well spoken individual. The amount of research that went into this book was incredible. I learned so much about the Spirit from this book and appreciate the new found wisdom I gained from reading.
I thought it was a good book. Not a deep doctrinal dive, more a collection of anecdotes from the author's life to illustrate principles. There were a couple of good points to ponder. I think I most enjoyed a quote from Elder B.H. Roberts and was happy to be pointed to his book "The Gospel and Man's Relationship to Diety"
This book is so well done. I feel the same way I did after I read Callister's "The Infinite Atonement." ...inspired and enlightened on such an eternally important topic. Millet did a great job of sharing both insightful doctrine, as well as personal experiences. It is comprehensive and I learned (and marked) so much. This is one I will continue to come back to.
The author has the experience, intellectually and spiritually and in life's everyday, to know what he is writing about in this excellent book. The first part is necessarily basic, but then the book goes into increasingly deeper teachings about the Holy Ghost, the third member of the Godhead after God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Using scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets, Millet teaches much that only a devoted scholar and spiritually mature person could discover while staying within the bounds of established doctrine. The book increased my testimony of and appreciation for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as well as for the Holy Spirit.
Following Christ aided by the Holy Spirit is Essential
I'll have to re-read this book at least once or twice so that I may totally understand what we need to learn about Heavenly Father,His son, Jesus Christ aided by the comforting peace from The Holy Spirit. I know the peace & joy given to us by the Holy Spirit because He's comforted me, aided me giving me Joy and I testify that what has been taught by The Holy Spirit comes directly from God and this book clearly states that in a way even I can understand. Great book.
The ability to feel and understand the spirit of God is one thing our Prophet has counseled is to do. Brother Millet in his wise way of teaching opens the mind to all the aspects of the Holy Ghost. He will lead us in all things that we must do and finding the way to hear his voice will guide us in the right way. I’m so grateful for this book and the many others I have read by Brother Millet, I recommend it to anyone seeking answers about the Holy Ghost.
This was a pretty good book. I've read several books about the holy Ghost and this book had a lot of the other stuff, but it was the best. This book didn't include some of the weird things other books did, and it included things that I haven't thought about. This is the best book on the holy Ghost, but I didn't love reading it because it was very repetitive to me. I gave it four stars based on the information, not because it was a big page turner. I would recommend listening to this one.
I really enjoyed this book. Being able to listen to and feel the promptings of the Holy Ghost are essential for each individual to stay connected with God and Jesus, this book shows how important the Holy Ghost is and I loved it. While reading it I was definitely more attune to any time the Holy Ghost was mentioned in a prayer, a talk, a song etc. He is our connection with the Father and Son. Stay close, and make your choices to stay close to the spirit.
I found this book to be quite inspirational. Although there weren’t any concepts I hadn’t heard through scripture and modern prophets, it is extremely helpful to have all of these quotes, scripture passages, and thoughts all in one place. The references are invaluable. I found several books and articles I want to read. I’d like to own this book to refer back to.
This is a fantastic book about the Holy Spirit. It provides lots of ideas on how to feel it more and the roles it has. It is involved in so many aspects and it inspired me to want to be even more proactive in inviting the spirit into my life. It didn’t keep my attention enough to read through it quickly, so that’s why I docked a half star, but it’s a great read! 4.5 stars!
This book had great insights, sources, and information regarding the Holy Ghost. The only reason that I didn't give it five stars was that it felt a little sluggish at times, and finally, at the last chapter, I thought, "This is really good!" I recommend it and think it was helpful and informative.
At a time in my life when I've especially needed inspiration, I appreciated the insights and encouragement of Robert Millet. After each chapter, I shared what I'd learned with my husband and it was a relationship-enhancing exercise. The Holy Spirit is a true Comforter.
A great book! A bit hard to get through because of its length and depth, but then again, it did offer a LOT. There were several insights, quotes, and stories that stuck with me. Overall it was well-written, insightful, and an excellent resource about the Holy Ghost.
Really enjoyed this book. The Holy Spirit should be one of the most important beings in our lives. This book was a great reminder of why we need him with us and what he really does to help us along the way. Highly recommend this book.
This is a fantastic and comprehensive book that provides doctrine, personal application, and shares personal experiences. I loved learning more about the Holy Spirit and His role in my life.
I listened to this as an audio book and now need to buy the hard copy for all of the great quotes and references. It is excellent and I learned so much.
Wow. What a wonderful book. I learned more clearly truths that I already knew. Certainly touched my heart and reinstated the great importance of the third part of our Godhead. Not a fast read.
The best thing I've ever read about the Holy Ghost!! The most inspiring book I've read in a long time! Probably since The Infinite Atonement by Tad R. Callister.
This book was amazing. It is an instant classic about the third member of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost. It is well worth your time to read it. I cannot say enough good about it.
