If you are ready to start making small steps that will make a big difference to your business, then this is the book for you!
If you've ever met Michelle, you'll recall how approachable, helpful and kind she is to anyone who crosses her path - in the WordPress community and beyond. A Good Firm Handshake encapsulates her personality in its pages and is packed with tips for any small business owners looking to make a positive impact in their business.
From networking in person and online to handling corporate sponsorships and building a customer service mindet your competitors will envy, you'll find it all in here. One of my favourite tips is how important it is to inspire your customers vs. thanking them for their purchase (read to find out why!).
In this book, you'll find sage advice garnered from years of experience in running a successful business...delivered with clarity, compassion and kindness. Definitely on-brand for Michelle - and valuable to any entrepreneur or manager looking to up their game.
Excellent book for anyone in business. The chapter on the lost art of a good handshake was spot on. Too many dead fish hand touches out there today.
Ames also covers the continuing relevancy of business cards, having a good elevator pitch ready, and hot to NOT baffle your clients with BS designed to show how smart you are with all of the latest buzz-words in marketing or any given field. Speak the customer's language, they will appreciate it.
Another chapter that was especially relevant to me was the chapter on 'Never Stop Learning'. I recently gave a talk at a WordCamp, and one of the topics that I stressed the importance of was to never stop learning. It doesn't matter what your field is, you must keep learning to not only improve yourself but also just to stay relevant in your chosen field.
This book is the perfect handbook for any small business owner (or even a large business owner). Each chapter is full of excellent tips that are easy to forget about in the chaos of doing the work. I heartily recommend this book and suggest that everyone who buys it reads it right away and then re-read every few months.
