But the picture she paints is of the wrong child, a girl, who doesn't match the description of anyone in town.
Bailey teams up again with T.J. and Dobbs to find the girl in the painting and discover the connection to the kidnapped children. But the tangled web of secrets surrounding the little girl leads to an incredible discovery that’s darker and more deadly than any of them could have imagined.
Will they be able to save the children in time? Or will they become victims themselves?

★★★★★ "I really liked the first book in this series and loved the characters but this one really blew me away! The Red Web is much creepier and more disturbing in its own way than Black Water which was creepy enough. I loved it." -- Peanuts
★★★★★ "I really dislike spiders... had to work on encouraging myself to remember it is words on paper painting a mental picture, that they weren’t real. I was born in Socorro, New Mexico, sometime shortly after the earth cooled off. It’s clear that from the outset my parents never intended for me to amount to anything. How could I? With a name like “Ninie?” Please.
Fame and fortune do not come to people named Ninie Bovell (My maiden name.) Gabriella Bovary? You could work with that. Even something as pedestrian as Madeline Bovell or Rebecca Bovell or (though you’d lose points here for lack of originality) Elizabeth Bovell. But Ninie? I never had a chance.
If I sound a mite hostile, bear in mind that in one decisive stroke my parents sentenced their precious newborn daughter to a lifetime of explanations that began my first day at Muleshoe Elementary School. (Yeah, Muleshoe. The hits just keep on coming.) After a painful week, I had a rap down that I still use today:
“No, it’s not Ninnie like skinny and penny. It’s Ninie—rhymes with tiny and shiny. 9e…get it? And no, it doesn’t mean anything, it isn’t short for anything, long for anything, or a substitute for anything. It just is. (Pause here for the inevitable ‘Why?’) You got me, pal, I couldn’t tell you.”
I grew up in Texas, got a BA in English and theatre from Texas Tech University and snagged a job as a newspaper reporter. Didn't know a thing about journalism, but my editor said if I could write he could teach me the rest of it and if I couldn't write the rest of it didn't matter. I hung in there for a 25-year career as a journalist. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world, but as soon as I figured out that making up the facts was a whole lot more fun than reporting them, I never looked back.
In every book I write I try to keep this promise to Loyal Reader: I will tell you a story in a distinctive voice you'll always recognize, about people as ordinary as you are--people who have been slammed by something they didn’t sign on for, and now they must fight for their lives. Then smack in the middle of their everyday worlds, those people encounter the unexplainable--and it's always the game-changer."
A Modern Day Hitchcock After reading the first book in the Through the Canvas series, I described all the main characters as heroes in their own ways. Although their roles may be very different in this installment, Bailey, T.J., Hobbs, and the Sheriff continue to be accidental heroes. Sure, you could say that a guy who chooses a career as Sheriff could be expected to act as a hero; it's sort of a "given." But not so with Bailey, Hobbs, and T.J. who sincerely seek to live quiet lives resembling some sort of normal.
Problem is, they're very inquisitive. All three of them have the curiosity of a cat and the tenacity of a bulldog. Occasionally they combine that with the common sense of a housefly for an outcome that isn't quite ideal. No, none of our heroes is idiotic. Quite the opposite. They just occasionally let their emotions get ahead of their brains. But then, the kind of trouble they find in this story would melt the average brain anyway. It's just not right in anyone's version of reality.
But it's an awesome read. In a brain-bending, Salvatore Dali kind of way.
I could not put it down. Pulls you in & you are kept guessing just like Bailey, Brice, T.J. and Dobbs. Love the characters. I also love that in the end even the F.B.I. has to admit the paranormal is real (though they don't know the full story). Don't dare start #3 yet or I won't sleep tonight. ;)
Red Web is Ninie Hammon's 2nd book in the Through the Canvas series. It is a follow up to book one, Black Water, which definitely needs to be read first. Again, we have the same lovable characters; 9e scared me though…she put them in some pretty life threatening situations. There is a tiny bit of romance between her and the sheriff...which neither of them truly seems to see yet. You'll notice that the cover of the book is a scary portrait...which seems to be what Bailey's 'inherited' calling is... The action is tense at times, disturbing psychologically, and just plain scary! Ninie has a way of making the unbelievable, believable. But...when you are finished with the book, you can still go to sleep at night, knowing that the words you read were just the wild imagination of a superb author.
I adore the way Ninie Hammon writes and I feel compelled to read all her books. From the moment I started reading this book, I was captured like a fly in a trap. I was drawn into the story and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Each chapter drew me further into the web. Red Web has been a great experience for me and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. It’s hard to understand how someone can have such a vivid and unique imagination – this story is like nothing I have read before. I have read some warnings that this book might not be for you if you don’t like spiders. Well, I believe that in most thrillers, the reader loves to face her fears and this book allows you to do just that.
Glad I found this series. It is different. I am very into murder mysteries and psychological thrillers. This is a combination of both and then some. The unusual storyline is very unique. I would have given this book 5 stars had it not been for the ending. There are some things I just can't fathom. On the other hand I love Ninie's style of writing. The main characters have continued from the first book and are very well developed and believable. The dialogue flows freely and smoothly. The editing is very clean and there are very few if any spelling or grammatical errors. There is no profanity or inappropriate sexual situations so I would recommend this book to adults due to the violence against children.
5*stars +++++ 5 MORE! WHEN I FINISHED THIS, ALL I COULD THINK WAS HOT-DIGGITY I WAS RIGHT. YAY ME! THIS WAS GREAT, I LOVED THE 1ST BOOK AND I LOVED THIS ONE EVEN MORE. WHAT A GREAT STORY, NINIE HAMMON YOU ARE A WONDERFUL AUTHOR. I HAVEN'T ENJOYED THIS KINDA CREEPY SINCE; RED DRAGON, SLIENCE OF THE LAMBS, HANNIBAL AND HANNIBAL RISING. WHEW WHAT A RUSH! ;D
Another Ninie Hammon hit. No matter what she writes she hits it out of the park. You pick the book up, get introduced to the characters and BAM you’re hooked. It is like you are there, truly engrossed in the story unable to stop turning pages. Great read.
I love the characters in this book. The usual four are there plus some. I love the rhythm and pace of the story. Red Web is even more gasp and adrenaline inducing, more horrifying than the first. Don’t read right before bed time!
Extraordinary new series from one of the most brilliant storytellers I've ever read. Both Book 1 and Book 2 are books I lost myself in. I fell into the stories with the characters and lived there with them until the last page. And kept wanting more! The characters are intriguing and unique and the plots are meticulously crafted. Highly recommend this thrilling new series
Wow! I thought that book 1 was freaky. Ninie has upped the ante with freaky and scary with this installment. This one really kept me riveted. I did not want to put it down. As with book 1, Bailey, TJ, Dobbs and Sheriff Brice once again get caught up in solving local mysteries. Children are being kidnapped, the clock is ticking, and authorities are desperate to find them before it's too late! What they discover though is beyond a horror that they could have never imagined. Download Red Web today...it's a definite page-turner!

This book was published about a month ago, and follows on from Black Water, which was the first in the "Through the Canvas" series. Skilfully crafted, this one introduces a new and entirely different category of horrifying material from that of its predecessor. The main characters are retained, and continue to develop, becoming more complex at the same time, as events shape their lives and outlooks. Ninie Hammon is an immensely skilled and talented author, who takes no shortcuts when it comes to research. As a result, her work immerses the reader in an eminently believable environment. This series has a supernatural element which forms the basis of the stories, but it is not actually supernatural. It does NOT leave one thinking about fantasy worlds, conjured up from nothing. It also does not place the reader in the position where they have to to decide on outright believability. First Class reading entertainment and highly recommended!!
