A very extreme stalking case. I was surprised the PD seemed to take so long to realise who the perpetrator was, having accused almost everyone, but he got there eventually. An easy listen .
The finale to the “Sam Arbichaut” mystery trilogy in which Sam investigates a stalking case that was decades long. Jennifer, called to the police stating that nothing matters anymore after lodging a complaint few weeks prior. A disgusting video of her and a close relative was doctored and sent to family and some friends. Jennifer ties with her friends and some family members have been cut as a result of the persistent stalker. Sam is entrusted with the case which lead to the uncovery of many secrets.
Personally, I liked this book better than the previous 2 as I was intrigued by the utilization of technology to fabricate audio/Video which prompts my thinking of the long term impact of mainstream AI tools that can be a comparable source to what was discussed in the novel. Despite my liking , I found this novel to be dragging the inevitable and thus leading to “aren’t we there yet?” Moments.
This is the third book in the series that I have read and I really think I enjoyed this one a little more than the second. Now, there are a lot of characters to keep up with at times but I think all of them have a point and it tells a really interesting story. They are all withholding and each story is plausible and highlights a detective trying to figure out what is actually happening.
Now, the books ending actually isn't the best. There is a lot of convenience that happens and you probably know the villain early into it if you stop and think. But it's nicely done.
Now, there is a character that is written a bit annoyingly and I'm not sure why they are written this way. To me it was unlikeable for this character to react this way though I think others might find it understandable. I just like how Baines writes characters and keeps a story just twisty enough to be engaged but not overly convoluted... To me
Cold Sweat is the third book in this series starring Sam Arbichaut and it was a terrific read. I think Sam is a fantastic protagonist and a compassionate human. My only complaint was that Leo McCullough, the lead homicide detective and Sam's friend, was hardly in this book which I found very disappointing as I have loved the dialogue between the two men in the previous novels. The ending definitely hinted at a fourth novel which I am looking forward to reading.
This book should have no more than 3.5 rating because it's not so well done. The premise is great and the writing is well enough, but the execution is subpar... I figured out who the stalker was the moment they were introduced.. so the twist was nary a bend, let alone a full twist. But that said I'm not upset I read it. It's a solid 3 star for sure!
I somewhat enjoyed the series. Just stick to telling a good story without bringing in your opinions on social issues, you have no idea who is reading your books. Also, don't charge for them, we are on Kindle Unlimited for a reason. I may or may not read another one of your books.
I read, or rather listened to, all three of the Sam Arbichaut books. They are good, easy to read, mystery/detective stories. Light reading and good to listen to while doing other things such as knitting or cooking.
The same as second book - good! Good storyline, good twist but the same as last one I figured out who will be the guilty one before it's actually come up :)
This book really makes you curious the entire time. So it was easy to keep reading. But for some reason, the "stalker" just didn't seem to be a satisfying person.
