more a 3.5
i enjoyed this book, finished it in two days. i didn’t like the main character, Cooper, as much as i related to him. i recognised and empathised with his struggles so much. whisper however - what a babe. i loved her character, loved reading about her. i liked the relationship they formed although the ‘she’s not like other girls’ line made me gag. i thought we were past degrading a whole gender in order to compliment/ lift up a woman. that line is the reason i had to put the book down for the night and didn’t finish it in one sitting. anyway, i wanted to mention my favourite character, Prince. The wonderful, caring, humorous, understanding best friend that everyone needs. i can look past his misogynistic ‘bros before hoes’ line that he says like 3 times because of how welcoming, friendly and warm he is towards Whisper, and how truly excited he is to meet her and for Cooper.
ultimately, good story, complex characters. i really got lost in the book and laughed and cried w the characters. pleased.

i enjoyed it at the beginning - then the sexual abuse became the main plot line
i wouldn't have read this if i had known that, however, i have a problem dnf ing a book so i stuck out and finished it - kinda liked it by the end so possibly a 2 stars but idk

I related to cooper sm, I have social anxiety I just loved him , prince aswell his whole personality and whisper just like the way cooper describes her and how the book describes her she’s so beautiful

A Girl Called Whisper follows our MC Cooper as he navigates high school with social anxiety. He falls for the new girl, Whisper and is thrown into her wild life. He eventually learns Whisper isn't as happy as she seems and is hiding a dark secret.
• The description of anxiety is correct and not over-used.
• The twist in the middle of the book was heart-wrenching and upsetting.
• The author really made me root for these characters to make it through all the barriers together.
Overall a fine book, I wish it discussed in more detail the bond the two had, more descriptions on emotions, it seemed to just skim over some important pieces for me.
