10 novels in and this is the first one to really recycle a premise. It had to happen sooner or later but I am impressed we made it this far and it's still a fun time. The plot is very similar to volume 5, both are about a big contest arranged by an out-of-towner that turns out to have an ulterior motive and volume 5 was probably my favorite of the books overall so I'm not averse to revisiting familiar territory. Where Volume 5 was about a big race, this one's about a fighting tournament. The main difference is that volume 5 was really about all the Dreamlanders and everyone got a pretty fun scene or two. This one is largely about Kirby fighting clones of himself which doesn't make for as much comedy since the clones don't speak but there are still some fun moments where the other citizens pop in to help and Metaknight has a particularly funny scene where he takes things way too seriously as usual. Language-wise it's about the same as the rest with a few unique words I haven't see, but I'm really able to read this series pretty fluently at this point and it's kind of my comfort series when something harder makes me feel like I haven't learned anything.
