Jess’s next hunt leads him to the town of Buckner, Texas, where he meets a town marshal who is still grieving the loss of his wife. The marshal has turned to whiskey to drown his sorrows and finds himself in trouble, not able to perform his duties.
Feeling sorry for the marshal, Jess helps him out, trying to capture the men who committed a jailbreak in town. Jess has to deal with the marshal’s addiction as well as try to make sure it doesn’t get them both killed.
After a successful hunt, they return to Buckner, where Jess is faced with yet another man who wants him dead. The way the gunfight unfolds leaves Jess second-guessing his mission in life, which puts him in the most vulnerable position he’s ever been in.

I love ❤️ that about these books 📚 he is always helping people he meets that need the help. Look forward to number 93. Thank you Robert Thompson for another great read.
Great Westminster story from Robert J. Thomas that will keep you reading until the end.
I have read all of the Jess Williams series, all ninety two. If you start with book number one you will read all of them. This series is additive causing you to put everything else down while reading the complete book..
Another winner from Mr Thomas. Your books are getting better and longer with great characters and lots of action. Will be waiting patiently for the next one. Would highly recommend this series to all that enjoys a great western series.
I put Robert J Thomas right up there with Louis L'Amour and William W Johnstone. To Me Three Great Writers. I have read all of Louise's, and Thomas's. I have tried to stay up with Williams and have read most of his series.
One of the Best Stories yet. More insight into Jess the man. You see how he could love being a regular man and settle down. In the end he know what his mission in life is.
Love this Jess Williams series. Have read all 92 books and now waiting number 93. Read 92 in one day. Get started and I can't stop until read the whole book. 😀
Not sure if a self doubting, introspective Jess is my cup of tea. Though it only lasted two weeks. I'm more a fan of cold blooded killer Jess. So a soft 3 it is.
