Well! Talk about jumping into a series...the first one I've read is this one! Thankfully, the story is pretty self contained, and although there are references to previous books, that doesn't take away from the current story.
I really enjoyed learning about Dan and his past and present escapades! He's a very intelligent, adventurous man, who will do what he can to protect those he cares for.
There are a number of side stories going on simultaneously which gives the reader many things to keep them thinking and engaged throughout.
Great read!

Extremely Disappointing Flash Bang
In my previous review I stated I felt the author was playing personal game to see how fast he could write a book. I also stated I felt like the meat was being left off bones and series becoming predictable. This book seems to fulfill all these points. Very disappointing. He says post script trying to wrap things up. If the author put as much thought into the book as he did the pst script would be much better. To heck with no spoiler rule. The writer instead of having characters chase after a goal...instead they are chasing their own tails and he tries to embellish by bringing in a mystery family member only to have them and their pieces parts disappear. All the main players are left abandoned, frustrated, empty...and you find out in about two paragraphs describing multiple events ho hum...envision writer washing hands done. The new breadcrumbs and objective are out of character to date, disappointing, dissolve to question mark on blank screen. With a trust me post script. Yawn. I bet he slung this hash out in a week. Considering the brevity, again lack of depth, skimming over what he thinks is trite but the audiance needs food. So this reader was left hungry and wanting...but as I had said previously what I feared would happen did. Which is sad because the characters are great just too skinny and now being dumped for a while per the post commentary.
In addition, a frustratiing publishing event...the author offers a free book. But the delivery service rejects unless you give them full access to all documents and photos on your platform. Ethically (even though they swear thousands use) I find the mandatory requirement unsettling in this era of ID theft and data theft. Gee what a way to scrape information even other writer's ideas. I don't think Amazon should be promoting such an app. Amazon already gets our data. I have recd free books from various platforms that never require such penatration.
Meanwhile I hope in the next book they author decides to spend a little more time so the soup is meatier and thicker.

The “Dan Kotler” Series by Kevin Tumlinson keeps on delivering non-stop action and entertaining paired with good researched historical facts and a good dose of (at times speculative) fiction.
Dan Kotler, which reads easy more as armchair archeologist, more comfortable on his own research corner deciphering the riddles of the universe, than a hardwired action hero, makes a surprising good figure on the field, no doubt also due to the support of his good friend Agent Roland Denzel, who offers the support and resources of the FBI, when he is not casually hiding Dan from them 😉 as Dan has a penchant to be at odd with authority, not always but frequently so.
Hidden Persuaders” (Dan Kotler #9) throws Dan Kotler into a hunt for a new fraction of the Jani, the Novensiles, who are head-on invested in taking control and establishing a new world order. Thus, as fourteen members of Congress, are abducted right in front of the television cameras, Dan and Roland are called into the investigation. Dan unusual skills and his unique way to handle dangerous situations prove to be the key to solve the mystery.
As with every Tumlinson’s book we are in for a fast-ride, non-stop action plot, full of unsuspected turns, enjoyable twists and unpredictable situations, that keep you wondering right until the very fast chapter.
With a clean and crisp writing style and a main character that is easy to love an relate to, we comfortable keep sitting in our armchairs, living our own action hero dreams while enjoying a very good thriller. It's hard to stomach the truths sometimes it hurts
Oh my giddy aunt what an adventure, he is on a break with Liz they are being to getting to know each other better until they are both called back to the department of historic crimes, then Dan and Roland are involved in an explosion while they are on an plane which goes down leaving them both injured they are then captured and again Dan has to use his skills to open a stone sarcophagus, the man urging him on has that zealot look, what is inside are canisters of "DNA" that he believes are the Gods, left shackled up Dan and Roland have to make an escape before the whole place goes up. This was just the start and goes on to a very exciting story. I'm pleased Jeffery is involved more I'm wanting him to lighten up haha. Although this isn't a love story by any means i do feel Liz and Dan have more than just a friendship. Dan once again is pulled into another adventure this time is too close to home, the "chairman" is a relative and KT has planted the seed of doubt that his parents may or may not be dead, stirring up the plot, he was asked to join the Jani group but on reflection that would hold him back and he wasn't cut out to be a soldier either, his search for knowledge the meaning of humanity is more important to him. His life has been ripped open in this book the memories are torn into "what" is the truth. The ending KT has left very much open and I'm looking forward to what he creates next for us. I highly recommend this book and all of this set of stories

I was very curious to read The Hidden Persuaders (Dan Kotler #9) by Kevin Tumlinson since I read the original Hidden Persuaders book in the 1950s. Tumlinson, one of my top favorite authors, is true to the 1950s book by blending the subject of Vance Packard's book into his stunning Dan Kotler series Book #9. While in the 1950s the hidden persuaders were largely found in advertising, Tumlinson's characters use media, news and social media, to manipulate opinion in such a way to bring forward their political agenda to benefit themselves through cornering wealth and power.
I particularly enjoyed reading the author's After Notes explaining his point of view on present day Hidden Persuaders.
This is a terrific book, as is the entire series!

Having just finished this book, I’m feeling…..hmmmmm…concerned. Yes, that’s it. Concerned. Why, you ask. Well, you know I’m not going to tell you. That would be a spoiler and I don’t do that. You need to read the book to see if you come away with the same reaction. Perhaps we can share notes and theories. But, I can say, reading between the many lines of previous pages in many previous books, I saw this a-comin’. That does not assuage my current feelings nor wipe the worry lines from my all-too-handsome face, but I do have that smug feeling of righteousness that I figured something out, at least partially, before it was revealed. So, buy the book, read it, and see if we wind up at the same place. I’m betting we do.

The premise here, that there is an age-old secret organisation that runs (or wants to run) the world is a bit conspiracy-theory out there but this is fiction so go with the flow. The characters are interesting and pretty well developed. The action is continuous. The author’s politics seeps through a bit but it’s not too intrusive and, I think, he’s doing his best to be even-handed although the character with views contrary to his is a bit of a caricature. Worth reading.

Fantastic as always
Things are getting more complicated and we're slowly seeing what really makes Kotler tic. Huge surprises in this book. I do miss the nitty gritty of finding an ancient site and Kotler unlocking the puzzles with Denzels help, all while Denzel covers his back by fighting the bad guys who are always surrounding them waiting to steal the secrets and/or the artifacts or the sites themselves with Kotler covers Denzels back.
It's always been part archeology mystery and part crime mystery with current day evil guys. And that works big time.

Once more into the breach. This time around the Historic Crimes of the FBI are involved in the kidnapping of several Senators taken directly from the floor of the Senate. Dr Kotler is sent to a secret location to interview an incarcerated member of the Jani, and the new offshoot. He & Denzel are in turn kidnapped. From this point forward, things just get more complicated and involved.
I look forward to the next volume in this series.

An excellent addition to the series! Dan Kotler and his FBI partner, Denzel, get interrupted by the Jani while investigating the abduction of U.S. Senators. Liz and Dani find themselves embroiled in Jani machinations, too, so now Dan must not only save himself but also protect his friends. This is another adventure with a complex plot — this time told from several different perspectives. Fast moving and hard to put down!

Excellent Read
Each book is better than the one before. Deep thinking and writing. No fluff. Honest characters with believability. I can't wait for the next book. Another fast paced action thriller in the Dan Kotler series. The Novensiles, a section within the Jani, are trying to take over. Fourteen members of the Senate are kidnapped and Dan Kotler and FBI agent Roland Denzel are asked to help with the investigation along with Liz and Dani, members of the Historic Crimes Division of the FBI.

A little bit overwhelmed with descriptions.
Not only that, but also let a heavy hangover for the next books.
It is not a standalone novel. Seems more like a TV saga now.
But don't consider my review as negative. Only just a little bit overwhelmed by the unfinished plot.

In this story, we discover that Dan Kotler's grandfather is not dead after all and what a story it is. Kevin Tumlinson at his best, yet, we still do not know if the grandfather survives - I am sure there is more to come on this front!

I've read all the Dan Kotler series books prior to this one & loved them. This one just lost me. It was a struggle to stick with it & finish the book. Sure hope this book was a one time fluke. I would hate to have to give up on one of my favorite series.

Good read. Kolter takes a new turn in this book. Enjoyable and the end leaves you feeling a lot of wonder and like the end of a family. Hoping future adventures fill the holes.

Politics!
Not as good a read as previous books. Too much repetition. However, the political scenes are right on point with what is happening today. Makes one wonder if the Jani are real. Perhaps the next book will be more informative on this point.

The deep state conspiracy stuff concludes. Might have been the weakest of the series. Hopefully we will get back to a more archelogy based thriller like in the earlier versions.

I didn't think this was up to par with other Kotler adventures.
We did learn a great deal about Kotler's family.

Could have been brilliant
Honestly I like all the books in this series but I could have done without the authors attempt to vilify AOC and socialism. It's clear that while the author has researched many things... The true meaning of a socialist democracy is not one of them. Leave the political bs out next time or get better at not showing your personal bias.

I really enjoyed this book, as I always do with books by this author. The only reason for 4 instead of five stars is that I couldn’t choose 4.5. The story kept me engaged and I enjoyed it immensely. If read as a stand-alone book without having already met the main characters earlier in the series though, parts of this story could have been less meaningful. Overall, a great read!
