Adeline Jones expected a fancy prep school to be different than what she was used to, but what she found at Raven Academy changed her world forever. And leaving is out of the question.
All Adeline wants is to forget about the guys that broke her heart. But the death of her classmate means that won’t be an option for her. To make things worse, an old flame from her past starts at the Academy and his intentions carry the deepest of betrayal.
Danger lies behind every corner, a killer walks among them, and Adeline soon discovers that she shouldn’t trust anyone at Raven Academy. Not even the four guys who insist she is theirs. And of course there’s the matter of the off limits Professor who tempts her like no one else.
Welcome to Raven Academy...where nothing is as it seems… And survival...well, it’s just a matter of perspective.
I'm a wife, mother, and author! Writing has always been a passion for me, and publishing my first series is a dream come true. I drink too much caffeine, never sleep, and my imagination is always churning out ideas. Eva and her men have been in my head for awhile, and I'm so glad to finally take you with me on this journey!
I thought book 1 was hard to put down? I absolutely devoured this book and I need the next one now. ❤ once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. The characters and story is so well written and captivating that it just draws you in and will not let you go So, the first book ended on a serious cliffhanger that left me speechless and wondering what would happen next, book 2 start right where it left off. Adeline is trying to come to grips with her feelings for the 4 guys and the you throw in the mysterious and gorgeous Professor Landon into the mix, and she's not sure what to think. Add to that a murder, her best friend's possible health issues, missing memories of her own, an old friend from her old school who she doesn't know if she can trust or forgive, and all the just plain strange things going on at the school and she's not sure what to believe or who to trust. I need more because that ending about killed me, again
As I’ve stated before, YA/Academy/RH books aren’t my favorite books, but I’ll read them if the right ones come along. The first book in this series was very intriguing, so I had to keep reading to find out what is going on. We do find out more about what is happening in this latest, but there are still some we are still in the dark about. I have to be vague to keep from revealing too much. I like the characters, but sometimes I feel that Adeline is a little naïve, and that’s gets to me a little bit. Other than that, this was a page-turner with great action (both kinds, LOL!), interesting plot developments, and an interesting new character, and I can’t wait to see what happens next after the end of this one! I do recommend this book, and I was given a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Warning: book ends with a whopper of a cliffhanger!!! So prepare yourself! Adi slowly but surely pieces together this school is NOT normal and is rife with secrets. However she and the reader still aren't certain of what exactly is going on. It appears there are supernatural beings on campus we're not too certain what kind. We also get an idea she's not human herself, yet has no idea of this fact...and we get a clue what she MIGHT actually be. How this all ties together however?? We don't get know...however more and more darkness is sneaking into the academy, and it's obvious that somehow Adi has peaked the interest of some incredibly high ups within the school. But WHY and HOW did Adi even get on the radar to be enrolled in the first place...and after the shocking reveal she gets in the nurses office? I'm curious where she came from in the first place. I for one can't wait to see more secrets revealed and light shine on some of the darkness walking the halls. What exactly do all these guys and a certain professor see inn her other than her awesome personality 😉. Walking blind among this creative's p craziness she tries her best to protect her best friend, and keep her sanity in this nuthouse. I love her dogged perseverance, huge heart and just plain awesomeness! Can't wait to see what happens next! So bummed I have to wait until November!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
OMG these two amazing authors have created a fantastic new addition to this phenomenal series!! Adi is slowly putting together the strange pieces of this school to notice that it is anything but normal. While dealing with that strangeness she also has to figure out what in the world is happening to her at the same time. Add in the guys to really get some explosive scenes as the details start coming out. A fascinating tale that will suck you in until the last page wishing there was more thanks to the huge cliff hanger. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Adeline's heart is hurting. Sure, she wasn't actually dating Alexander or Dante but she honestly thought they had something together. Something special. So walking in on them and that girl hurt. She wants nothing more than to avoid them at school but with the murder of a non-scholarship girl that isn't an option. Now to make things worse her old sorta boyfriend has enrolled in the school too. Add in the off-limits professor that she can't stay away from and Adeline's heart is a mess. With the guys all telling her she can't trust anyone, her head is too. Leaving isn't an option but the danger at Raven Academy is real. Adeline's special and secrets even she was unaware of are starting to be revealed. It may already be too late for her.
Has there ever been a book with so much back and forth between the girl and her guys? Hot/cold, sweet/brusque. One big mixed message. I never knew what to expect from one page to the next. Kept my attention riveted. We did get closer to three of the guys; Braxton, Finn, and Nyx. Braxton is intense; Nyx isn't just the party boy, he has his own secrets and a temper; and Finn has a sweet caring side. Alexander was around plenty but we didn't get much new information; we already knew he was possessive. Dante got the least mentions which made sense considering how the first book ended. We also know have Connor. We didn't spend much time with him but we have his backstory. We also have a clue as to why he's there. Adeline's secrets started to be revealed. If speculation is correct, the council will stop at nothing to get their hands on her. They will have competition too. I think there may be even more to Adeline than they think.
I look forward to more. I am ready for the guys to start explaining their world to Adeline. If they want to keep her safe, if they care about her other than for her 'special qualities' it's time to confide. She's in over her head and only has a small idea of her danger. Knowledge is power; she needs some. There is true (read: smoking hot) chemistry between Adeline and each guy but there are so many complications to Adeline having relationships with them. Their feelings for one another, the hierarchy within their own relationships, their history, their positions, and of course, who/what they are will all come into play as they try to be with Adeline. Connor adds another dimension if he is who I think. I am ready for Adeline to start being more protective of herself. I understand some things are out of her control but she can 1. be more careful on campus, 2. investigate the mystery that she uncovered in the library, 3. really try to talk to the guys, including Connor about some of her questions.
The tension stayed from beginning to end. All sorts of tension. Every type of tension you can imagine. Then came the cliffhanger ... I was really pleased with it. I'm excited about what happens now and worried about Adeline. Maybe now we get a few answers! Maybe now we get a little more hot, a little less cold.
Wow...what a truly captivating second book in this intense series! I got this book and had to finish it immediately...i was unable to put it down and before I knew it that ending and I was yelling for more! This book is even better than book one and in this book we really get to know the characters a lot more...we are a little closer to what the guys are. I love that there is more Braxton, Finn and Nyx...Braxton is intense, controlling and mysterious; Finn is sweet and softer; Nyx is complex and dark. But we also get more of Dante and Alexander...both these guys are dark and intense! We also learn so much more about Adeline and what she is...if she is what I think the council is going to be after her! This book was intense, captivating and left wanting book three..warning it does finish with a cliffhanger! Highly recommended series by two very talented authors!!
The tension in this book was killing me, honestly I jumped out of my seat several times (or it seemed so). There is sexual tension of course, but also lots of dangerous tensions and fear and suspicions. It made me fear for Adi, melt for guys (however I was also getting angry at them) and laugh as well. We got some revelations, some interesting insights and vague (and I mean it when I say vague) idea of what is going on behind the scenes of this strange school. Honestly I loved every second of it. And the ending made me look with eyes wide open into space for a whole minute (which earned me strange looks from my daughters). I will probably jump out of my skin and chew on my fingers waiting for next part. Definitely worth reading.
This was a good addition to the series. A good plot and fantastic characters. There still is more questions than answers and the answers that I do have are assumptions. They are never stated as a fact. Also where is the rh factor. It seems more like a teenager with several crushes.
This is the second book in the Academy of Souls series and just like the first book it was extremely hard to put down in order to do anything including eat. This book starts right were book one left off and let me say you really need to read this series, there is so much that I will not say as it will be spoiling it. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
The second book in the Academy of Souls series moved a little bit slower for me then book 1 did but I still enjoyed the read. There are still so many mysteries and questions surrounding the school and what the people are that attend it. I look forward to finding out what happens next.
It’s not a bad story but it moves very, very slowly without much excitement. We are at the end of book 2 and not much has happened to further the storyline. I get the authors are trying to be mysterious but it is just too slow moving for me.
I didn’t think book 2 would be better then the first. First off the guys are intense and I like it. Reading everything unfold has been a crazy emotional ride and I can’t wait for more!!
I read this whole series in a set, so I'm having some trouble directly separating the books. Therefore, I will have one long review for the series as a whole that I will post to each book. That means warning!! There are definitely some spoilers ahead.
I would argue that this book is bad, and that the entire series was bad. The writing is lacking, the plot is lacking, the exposition is not well explored. I found myself confused while reading and also annoyed at how bad the writing was. This book genuinely feels like something you'd find online written by teenage girls who love reading/writing but haven't quite mastered or grasped how to create a well defined exposition.
I also found the book to be contradictory all around while reading it. Take Adi, our FMC, for example. The book LITERALLY starts with her wanting to rob a store at gunpoint (fake gun, but ya get it) so that she can get money to help her father with his hospital bills since he has cancer. But then, everything turns around and she has an opportunity to go to an exclusive academy and the school is willing to pay for her father's medical expenses. She immediately gets so so sad about this, but it doesn't fit with the strong-willed girl we saw at the start who was willing to do anything for her father.
Adi's also contradictory as a character with how she flip-flops in her reactions in dealing with other students. Sometimes our homegirl has a backbone and won't take ANY shit from the people being rude. Other times she cowers and doesn't stand up for herself. So who is she? What's her real personality? She inevitably goes to confront the guys about what's going on at the school, and when she finds out, she doesn't fight them enough or ask enough questions. When she figures out what SHE is, she doesn't question anything enough. Like, miss girl... Your whole world has just been flipped upside down. You gotta address this...
As we get further into the series, it just gets worse. This series genuinely lacks any real worldbuilding or character development, and it just feels so stilted and uncomfortable and BORING while you read. The guys are all so BLAH and the relationship growth is seriously lacking for me throughout. Our major conflict at the end? So lame, so lackluster. Adi ends up in Heaven and meets her parents, and we get NOTHING here. No real information about where she is, what it's like, etc. We just know she's miserable. Like... fine, but give us something.
The story ends with Adi's soul in all of her guys and them meeting during her first day at the academy (with none of them having any memory of their previous life together). Meh.
By the time we get to the end of the series, I find myself hating it and regretting reading it. 2 stars all around, being generous.
This is the second book in the series I've read. I liked the first book but was somewhat annoyed by the fact that the heroine didn't really make any kind of major effort to stop her sexual desires with the various guys.
The second book, unfortuantely, is more of the same with even Mercy getting used by one of the guys. Further, due to the death of a student, the scholarship students will be given a guardian. The non-scholarship students get nothing which preety much makes it clear that they are second-class people at the best.
Then there is yet another Council which seem to be a pretty negative group (as most councils are in this type of book.)
There's really no growth of her character in this book. She's a sex toy for the guys (and a professor or two) and it's rather amazing that with so much discrimination among the groups, a couple of deaths and stuff like that not resulting in at least non-scholarship students fleeing like rats from a sinking ship.
I have no desire to read any more books in this series.
This book picks up where the first book left off, with our main protagonist Adeline trying to figure out what's going on. She is feeling betrayed and heartbroken, but also confused.
As the book progresses, more details come to light and the more the boys pulling around Adeline. With the introduction of Connor we see a whole nother element and a different dynamic is established. Adeline mustface a past that hurts her while also trying to help her friend, Mercy. This book has some twists and turns, but it also leaves us wanting more as there are still questions to be answered.
This is definitely a great second book to this series, as it begins to develop more character relationships, but also leaves a few questions left to be answered. if you haven't started this series you really should.
I absolutely loved reading this although for some reason it took me a while. i think its because the cover makes the book look almost sweet which is not at all my cup of tea. However i decided to give it a go as i love both authors and believe me it isnt as sweet as it first appears. There is almost something Gothic about it and the storey certainly has an underlying darkness.. Book 2 really starts to develop the storey and we start to understand what is going on as the storey evolves still full of twists and turns with a couple of bombshells thrown in for good measure. This storey is becoming an addiction!!!
Certainly, this story each time gets more interesting. Adelina has no idea what happens at Raven Academy and what are the rich sand pretty students. She only knows that she could not help how she feels about Alexander, Dante, Nix, Finn, and Professor Landon. What a lot! But, did they truly have feelings for her or just using her? A school tour brings dangerous information to light, an assassin is on the loose and now, not only Adelina was in danger. The cliffhanger left me fearing for Adelina. How exciting does this get! Action, suspense, mystery, betrayal, jealousy, violence, romance and passion.
The mysteries continue. Connor, a guy from her old school, a guy who was her friend and then betrayed her, shows up at Raven Academy. Why is he wearing the non-scholarship uniform? Why does he know about classes that Adeline never heard of before?
A school camping trip means a mandatory health check, but the test gives unexpected answers. Now Adeline has to process new knowledge, while trying to figure out what shes doing with "her" men.
Weird things keep happening at the school, and while some mysteries are solved, new ones left me turning page after page, hoping to get the answers. Major cliffhanger. I definitely need to read the next book, to see if my questions are answered.
Wow I fell in love with book 1 but this book just drew me in further into what’s happening at Raven Academy. But I will start with this I will never look at Hawaiian pizza the same. There are so many twists and turns in this book I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster ride. I’m still trying to work out what the boys and the profs are. But it looks like we are closer to our answers with Adi. Hearts are certainly tested to their limits in this book and Adi could get burnt the most out of this. I think even though the boys and Braxton are kinda maybe working together they need to trust each other more. Another cliff hanger that just draws you into book 3.
As much as I enjoyed the first book, I didn't enjoy this one. Honestly, I'm really bored. The character flip flop of Adi, the other characters, and the world progression is almost zero! I still have no idea what's going on, nor do I care at this point. The book overall is lacking in the world building and the propulsion of a plot. And I went ahead and read reviews for the last two books. Based on reading those and how I'm feeling about book 2, I will not be continuing the series. This series started out strong, but it's a massive dive from book 1 to this book. I will say that I absolutely adore the concept!
Goodness this story is superb. It is extremely well written and the characters have grown so much. The story is jammed packed with action, suspense, mystery, and drama. It pulls you in and doesn’t let go as it is so addicting. You just have to find out what happens next. The descriptions keep you engaged as it is easy to be pictured in your mind. The flow of the story is magnificent as it blends beautifully. This series is a must read!!!!!!!
This series still seems like it’s too full for the pages given. There’s a lot of info, and not enough space. There’s finally a little development where Adi is finally suspicious of the school and it’s students. You are left on a cliffhanger, mid scene, so that’s a major downfall for me. I want to know why aren’t the students monitored better, if the “non-scholarship” students are feeding of the scholarship students, why don’t they rotate better? A student council should be in place or something to prevent over feeding on students like Mercy.
School of Broken Hearts is book two in the series Academy of Souls by authors C.R. Jane & Mila Young. So if you’ve read my first review on book one then you’ll know there’s this huge secret- more than one. So many. Anywho one is revealed that I didn’t even know was a secret. And just maybe another. There are so many revolving pieces- so many connections. Who’s the bad guy(s)? This tale keeps you on your toes and has this delicious balancing of danger and intenseness that you keep wanting more. Enjoy!!
If you dont like cliffhangers, by the next book already :p I could start directly in the next one so for me it was no problem. I really love Adeline. I think sometimes she is to naive but thats ok. I love her, the guys but the one I really love is Mercy. She is a little bit crazy but is a really nice side-girl??? Do not know how to say that in another way. We learn more about her history and this book left me with a lot of questions about Conner.
Sooo, this story is beyond compelling to read. I just can't stop, because I need to know more. These authors manage to build up the tension and suspense to a point where I'm on the edge of my seat, begging for answers.
I love the main character and how she's growing, still battling her insecurities, but also finding her strengths. Also: cliffhanger alert! 😉
This book does not help at all to answer questions I have. It is so intriguing that I can't stop reading. What are they? What is Adeline? Who is killing students? Then a cliffhanger from hell. I love a good mystery. I am looking forward to next book.
