Ruud Gullit is a Dutch football manager and former player, who played professionally in the 1980s and 1990s. He was the captain of the Netherlands national team that was victorious at Euro 88 and was also a member of the squad for the 1990 World Cup. Playing for AC Milan, He was named the European Footballer of the Year in 1987 and the World Soccer Player of the Year in 1987 and 1989
Ruud Gullits book was quite a good book. I originally read this book due to wanting to learn more about him after reading Dennis Wise's autobiography as he seemed like he would have an interesting story to tell and I was not disappointed by this. However, early in the book, he did seem to skim over events pretty quickly and didn't put much detail into them which was a shame as I wanted to learn more about him at times and the lack of detail stopped this. This book for me improves as it goes along as the depth in which he writes increases so everything feels more complete. Overall, this book is a rather good read and is quite funny at times. This book is definitely directed towards Chelsea fans in particular as he spends more time on his time there than at any other club he played for.
Ruud Gullit was my favorite player as a youth, and I was always confused how such an incredible footballer led such a transient life moving from club to club. I had hoped that this book would produce some clarity, but I am only left more confused and with more questions. Perhaps that it what is so enigmatic about Gullit.
