Lillywhite and Dungey composed a textbook that is at once clear, orderly, navigable, humorous, and affordable. The text divides its sections into concerns of greatest to least magnitude and can be read front-to-back without a need to bounce around for definitions and references.

The authors both offer and execute their own advice, making the book as readable as any craft discussion can be. Textbooks can be ponderous things, and this floppy paperback is like a manual to write plain language well and not a treatise on the jargon and grammars of cubicles and boardrooms.
