She’s Hollywood’s sweetheart…. Sadie’s been a media darling for years, but a recent studio hack has put her personal life in the spotlight. She’s never outright denied her sexuality, but she didn’t want it confirmed by a steamy video with her ex. To make matter’s worse, someone is sending threatening letters and packages to her house. Escaping to ShudderCon for a few days is exactly what she needs to evade the stalker and deflect media attention.
She doesn’t want a bodyguard, but when she meets Nic the spark of attraction is hot enough to burn. Attending events together makes rumors about their mysterious relationship fly and soon everyone thinks her bodyguard is her newest flame. It’s all for show, it has to be, but their fake kisses sure feel real.
She’s not going to fall for a client… Ex-cop Nic is working for her sister’s security firm, protecting celebrities from imagined threats. But the threats to Sadie are definitely real, real enough for the LAPD to step in and suggest she stay out of the spotlight for a while. Keeping the actress safe in Vegas should be easy enough. Keeping her hands to herself? That’s another story. Nic’s never been tempted to get involved with a client, but there’s something about Sadie that she can’t resist. And when faking a romantic liaison becomes necessary, Nic jumps at the chance.
For the sake of both of their careers, they need to keep things professional, but what happens in Vegas could change their lives for good.
Crowds, cosplay… chemistry - it’s all happening for these lucky ladies. Six lesbian romance authors have teamed up to bring you love: convention style in the brand new ShudderCon series.
The House by Lily Craig The Payoff by Sienna Waters The Show by Hildred Billings The Bluff by Kate McLay The Shark by Cara Malone The Longshot by Anna Cove
Kate McLay grew up in the Midwest, but after a short stint in Scotland she found her home deep in the heart of Austin, Texas. By day, Kate wrangles with computers and solves technological problems. By night, she dreams of magic and romance and can usually be found with her fingers on a keyboard or her head buried in a book.
Sadie and Nic Sittin’ in a Tree… This is a fun short about an actress, Sadie, who is having a tough week! There has been a media breech leaking all sorts of really private stuff out into the world and now she has a stalker. Nic is the sexy bodyguard hired to keep Sadie safe. Sadie is sent to ShudderCon to work but you know what they say about all work and no play… This fast and playful story is so good. I loved the characters and the writing, the storyline is great and best of all I get my HEA!! Ms McLay is a new to me author but I would love to see more of her work. This is book four of a series of six and I can’t wait to read them all!!!
It was a bit of a slow-burn romance more than the last one which had a bit more of a fast-paced feel to it. This one also took a little more time to get to the main point of the story. I liked the characters of Nic and Sadie. They were drawn out in a very realistic way. I can say how tough it might be falling in love, but to fall in love with ones own personal bodyguard is even more confusing and hard-to-handle. For Sadie and Nic, that is an understatement for them both. Sadie wants Nic. Nic wants Sadie. They feel the attraction between them immediately but neither want to really act on that attraction.
Updated 2nd read: My only real reason for only giving this a 3.5/5 is because while I loved the attraction shown between Sadie and Nic, I would've liked to have seen some more drama with the stalker as it kind of just fizzled out on its own. I would've liked to have seen that angle played a bit more in the crazy stalker going to ShudderCon and having that dynamic mixed into the story.
Sadie Porter is a middling Hollywood celebrity who has run into a series of terrible events. First, her phone was hacked and a sex tape with her in the starring role has gone viral. Not only is her most intimate moment out for public consumption, it has also unceremoniously outed her to the world. Plus, now there is a threatening stalker complicating her life further. Her supportive politician mom and manager hire a bodyguard, Nic Sirsat, to take care of her till the stalker is caught. Sadie is immediately attracted to Nic, but circumstances won’t allow her to take it further. Worse, the same circumstances have the two women spending almost every second of their time together.
Nic comes into Sadie's life after she's outed by the release of video and a stalker begins to sends packages directly to her home. Nic is hired to protect her until the stalker is apprehended. An instant attraction cannot be denied between the two and Nic does her best to keep thing professional. That is until Sadie makes proposition is presented. I loved the build-up between these two. The only thing that left me wanting was finding out who the seller's identity.
It was light, fluffy read with no real heavy aspects in the story. The stalker storyline fell flat, no urgency, no bated breath moments. The beginning of the story started right off with the protagonist showing us all the parts of her life that was crumbling with no time for the reader to really sink their teeth into the plot. I'm all for starting a book off with a bang but this felt forced. The sexual tension between victim and bodyguard didn't work for me, there just wasn't a great build-up. Again, light & fluffy that killed a few hours.
A stolen picture from a phone and death threat follows. It is almost reluctance that the movie star is given a beautiful and confidant bodyguard. A trip to Shudder .com in Vegas and what stays in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. Enjoy!
Another great story and read. This time about an actress who has a stalker and is forced to hire a bodyguard as she is attending the Shudder Convention in Vegas. The police are investigating who it is but are struggling. Author Kate Mclay did a great job writing this --- Plus it flowed from start to the end. A well deserved 4++ STARS.
Two women in lust so strong, the magnetism between both was inevitable. Falling in lust is close to falling in love maybe. Our two protagonists fought against their feelings until they succumbed into their feelings.
