Semi-Psychic Life

Rate this book
Who says you can’t live the rock and roll life after forty?
You just need a lot more vitamins and a bigger bottle of aspirin.

Valerie Costa was pretty sure she was rocking her forties. She had an amazing coffee shop, two cool teenagers, and a new superpower that gave her insight into any random object she touched.

Okay, she wasn’t thrilled about that last one.

Ever since Val and her two best friends had driven their car off the edge and into Glimmer Lake the year before, Val has struggled with her new abilities. She’s not exactly sure she wants to be psychic, she could live without her newfound glove addiction, and honestly no one wants to know that much about their teenage sons.

But when Val’s ex-husband goes missing, and police show up at her door with questions she can’t answer, Val, Robin, and Monica are going to have to use their sudden psychic abilities to solve a mystery none of them saw coming.

Semi-Psychic Life is a standalone paranormal women’s fiction novel in the Glimmer Lake series by USA Today bestseller, Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries and the Irin Chronicles.

Semi-Psychic Life by Elizabeth Hunter
Glimmer Lake series #2. Paranormal women’s fiction. Older heroine. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series as the three main characters are in each book.
After their inadvertent plunge into Glimmer Lake, the three women in the car ended up with a psychic power. Valerie’s is psychometry. She gets visions from touching objects. When Val’s ex-husband goes missing and her boys are scared because the police have a warrant out to arrest her ex, Val, Robin and Monica use their new skills to help investigate.

The three women psychics are amazing friends that are supportive and amusing together. Unquestioning loyalty and extended family plus life that goes a little wonky makes this mystery more of an romping adventure than expected. I loved the women’s knowing when to snoop and when to back off each other as well as the dynamic relationships of each sub group. Yes, there is a bit of danger. No, there isn’t much of a romance but potential for one. Yes, teens can be obnoxious and loving. Yes, friendships can support and be helpful.
I loved this adventure and can’t wait to read more by this author.

Val and her deadbeat cheater of a husband have been divorced for years but when he goes missing and has been accused of theft it is up to Val to find the father of her children and try to help him before he gets railroaded for something he didn’t do. With the help of her other newly gifted friends Val, Robin and Monica will try to figure out what happened to her ex, Josh and why someone might want to frame him.

Val and the local sheriff have been circling each other for a while. She really likes him but her life, kids and ex just seem too much to bring someone else into it. When her ex goes missing and no one is taking it seriously she needs to lean on Sully along with her friends to figure out what is going on and who might want to frame him for something he didn’t do. Can she trust Sully with the secret of her power or will he think she is crazy? Should she give him as chance to be in her life.
“I mean that. You’ve got a good life. A good family. A good business. I don’t want to take anything from that. You’ve worked too hard. But maybe think about how I could add something. How being with me could add something to your life.”
Val blinked. “I’ve never thought about it that way.”
“Fair enough.” He leaned back on the pallet and stretched his arms over his head. “Being with people who always take is exhausting. I’ve been there. But that’s not the kind of person I am.”

This was another good mystery and I like how all the women use their gifts together to figure out what is going on. I also enjoyed that Val got to learn what it was like to lean on the people in her life who will always be there for her and take a bit of the load off. Overall another really good story in this series with likable characters, great setting and the supernatural.

I was lucky enough to be given an early copy to read. I honestly do not know how Elizabeth Hunter does it! Every time she brings out a new series, I wonder if it is going to live up to the others and every time it does but what is even more wonderful is the 2nd book in the series is genuinely superb. I adored Suddenly Psychic but Semi Psychic life was even better. I need a system where every book has more stars available to me, so that I can give them more stars!

This is Val’s story. Val, who has battled for everything that she has and now finds herself with a new psychic ability. She has responsibilities, she has friends that won’t stop hassling her about the local beef-cake of a Sheriff and she has an ex husband that keeps causing trouble! What has he got himself into this time?

I love Val. I love these friends and I can’t wait to read the next book. 6 stars from me!

This is so me, peeps!

The continuation of the #PWF with book two in the Glimmer Lake series.

What is #PWF? Well let me tell you.

 -Paranormal (cause we love our magic, mysticism, and mayhem)
 - Women’s (cause we’re grown women, not girls)
 - Fiction (cause we have our own stories to tell)

I loved this idea and thought it was about time that women who aren’t quite spring chickens anymore get their time to shine.

It is no secret that I am a huge Elizabeth Hunter fan and over the years and the fabulous series that she has created very few books have disappointed me. But I have to say that I had difficulties with this book and I am major bummed that I did. Maybe my expectations were just too high.

Val Costa is a single mom of two wonderful boys unfortunately her ex-husband lacks any sense of responsibility and has never grownup. Once again Val is going to have to clean up his shite but this time things are quite serious. Val also has to realise that she is allowed to have a life and not just be all work and no play.

I didn’t like Val, well that isn’t true, I liked her until her inner monologue and how she struggles with what she wants just went on a tad too long. I get it but I would have liked her to ease up a bit sooner.

Sully is the sheriff of Glimmer Lake and Val’s love interest. I felt as if his role wasn’t big enough in the book but that is just me.

I love the small town feel of Glimmer Lake and Ms. Hunter is a genius. She captivates you, spins a wonderful tale and leaves you with a full heart of joy and happiness and I still got this here with this book. The plot is unique but drags a bit, for my liking at least.

My personal opinion talking to ghosts is way cooler, sorry Val.

Read this fantastic series and become an Elizabeth Hunter fan!

Sometimes I feel a little bit like a broken record when it comes to writing reviews for Elizabeth Hunter's books. The characters and pacing are just right. EH manages to write characters that you become incredibly invested in and want to be friends with. Val is no exception to this.

The way the 'girls' friendship group works is exceptionally realistic. It's of the grown-up variety, the kind where sometimes you can just not speak for a while and nobody is falling out over it because everyone just gets it. Life, especially with kids and jobs, gets busy and if you and your besties have some newly acquired psychic abilities it's bound to be even busier!

I really like the premise of this story, I liked the way Val still cares about her ex. Not in a romantic way - not at all, but in the way you always will when you've spent a chunk of your life with someone and share children with them.

I will eagerly anticipate #3 of the Glimmer Lake series where I hope to learn more about Monica :)

Great read and would definitely recommend.

Elizabeth Hunter has become one of my “comfort” authors. Some people reach for comfort food, I reach for books. The characters she creates are people that I want to know.
Val’s story began in the first Glimmer Lake book, Suddenly Physic, and I was anxious to get to know her better. I’ve been waiting on this book! Of the three ladies from Glimmer Lake, I can relate to Val the most. She’s got a dead-beat-dad to deal with, who is the father of her boys, and is trying to fill the role of both parents while running and maintaining her own business. On top of that, she’s dealing with her new physic power. I loved seeing her come to terms with her life and learning to reach out and go for what she needs.
Of the three powers the ladies were gifted with after their accident, I think Val’s would be the most fun. The most unnerving, but the most fun. I love the hidden messages she receives at the end of the story! So sweet!
Totally loved this book! I highly recommend it.

I have to wait until August for the 3rd book?!

In this second installment of a glimmer lake series, it was just as fantastic if not better than the first.

Val, Robin and Monica have these amazing super powers that help them solve murders, solve cases and live their day to day lives. Vals ex is still hanging around and Robins husband is still pretty great with the knowledge of his wife having these powers. I can’t wait to see what book 3 brings!

Elizabeth Hunter is a newish to me author. I found her with the PWF group and have loved every book I have read of hers so far.

I won an ARC of of this book and my review is my own and completely honest.

Middle aged woman Scooby Doo for sweater weather. That is the best way I can describe this sweet story. Our psychic moms are at it again solving the mystery of a missing ex-husband. I had the pleasure of taking an early peek at this novel and was pleased. Along with the mystery solving, I enjoyed learning more about Val and getting all the feels about her friendship with Monica and Robin. A great read to lighten your mood during this quarantine.

4.5 hearts

I really enjoyed the start of a new series, Glimmer Lake .    I loved this even more than the first one, Suddenly Psychic which introduces our three best friends in a smallish town in California.  One is married; one is divorced; and one is a widow. They all have children growing up, mostly teens or young adults.  They have realistic issues with their children, parents, partners, and careers.

Val feels like her ability is the most like a curse since it really intrudes on her daily life.  She can sense things, even get conversations through touching an object.  She always has trouble with her ex-husband.  He's not really reliable.  But when he goes missing, she works to figure out where he is for the sake of their boys.

This puts her in touch more consistently with Sully, the sheriff. They're attracted to each other, but Val thinks she has enough in her life and can't handle one more thing. But she has a chance to see Sully would not be the same kind of partner as her ex.

I found this mystery even more exciting than the previous one. I was just going to read a bit of Semi-Psychic Life before bedtime.  It was so good, I just kept reading and then it was 2am and I finished.  With the mystery aspect, a bit of humor, the strong relationship and support the three friends share and a romance, there is much to love!

This is the second book of Elizabeth Hunter's Glimmer Lake series. It is a series of the larger Paranormal Women's Fiction set of books written about kick-ass women over the age of 40. Thirteen authors are part of the group and it is nice to read about women in the PNR genre who aren't 20-nothings.

The series focuses on three best friends who develop psychic abilities after a near-death experience. Book 2 follows Val, about a year after the accident, and how she struggles to maintain her sanity with her new power. Her ex-husband, who is more like a child that you can't get rid of, gets into some trouble and Val works with sexy Sherrif Sully to crack the case.

Val is a former punk kid who grew up when she had herself had kids. She holds on to some of her former ways by being the cool Mom with tattoos and a shave under. She loves her kids (who are great) and runs her business like a pro. She takes on too much and has trouble asking for help. But Sully can help with that. ;)

The Glimmer Lake series is a little more cozy than some of Elizabeth Hunter's other writing. Though there is some romance and some mystery/action, it is not super intense. It's a nice break though when the world is falling apart (read during covid-19 pandemic).

I had the chance to read an early copy for review!

Val’s story

The second installment of the Glimmer Lake series does not disappoint. In this installment, we get Val’s point of view. It was great getting to know her better as a character. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the story. For me at times it was a bit slow. It seemed to pick up after 60% but it was still a enjoyable story as we watch Valerie struggle with her gift. It was nice to see that towards the end she finally accepted it among other things. Looking forward to reading Monica’s book.

DNF Chapter 9

I realize that this series isn't for me. At all.

It was boring. All this mom stuff, ex-husband stuff, little town stuff. I expected something different. Something magical and funny and intriguing.

There was no chemistry between the Hero and the Heroine. And the Heroine isn't interesting.

Urgh, Val frustrated me!! I understand that Val has harder time to deal with her "superpower" of psychometry. I mean, yes, imagine touching objects and then being bombarded with the dreadfulness of people.

At the same time, I think Val is sabotaging her own happiness!! She has great two best friends, amazing two kids, and a great sheriff who is interested in her. But nooooo, Val seems to be determined not getting any help about her psychometry issue, refusing Sully (the sheriff) to get closer (even her kids think it's not a problem for her to date again, jeez!), and keep being tangled up with feeling about her deadbeat husband (no, NOT romantic one! but Val thinks Josh is still her sons' father, so she doesn't want to get rid of him completely)

Having said that, I still loved this book. Yes, I know, I was frustrated with Val ... but her concerns have merits. And I loved the way the women solved the case of Josh being "missing" and I adored Sully the Sheriff.

As book two in the Glimmer Lake series and part of the new #PWF (Paranormal Women’s Fiction) genre, I was thrilled to get an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Out of the three friends who survived a near fatal car accident into Glimmer Lake, and to have received psychic abilities as a result; Valerie Costa struggles with hers the most. My heart ached for Val’s struggles over her inability to touch simple objects and forced to keep her hands covered to prevent it. She is an awesome single mom of two boys who’s ex-husband is less responsible than their 17 year old. When Josh goes missing and is linked to several crimes, Val and her friends work together to uncover the truth; with the help of charming and attractive deputy sheriff Sullivan.

I really enjoy the writing style of this series. I like that it is a clean paranormal romance that isn’t sugary sweet or overly cozy. There is mystery and edge of your seat moments that prevented me from putting the book down. The characters are believable and real with just enough banter to show years of friendship without being snarky. I haven’t read everything by this author, but will definitely read anything she writes in the future. Loved this book and can’t wait to read Monica’s story when it’s released.

I've fallen in love with Glimmer Lake. I love Val with like all of my used to be cool girl self. As a once single mom that had a douchebro for my child's father, I can 100% see her in myself. Out of all the ladies Val is like looking at myself. Elizabeth, you are a master storyteller. No matter what series you write, I love every single book you put out. The characters are so fleshed out and relatable. Please never stop writing, please. You have a gift and thank you for sharing it with us.

This story kept me up all night reading, I just couldn't put the book down. I love the friendship between Val, Monica and Robin. If one of them is down the other two make sure to pick her back up. I love their little "psychic adventures". I love the heat between Val and Sully. I'm super excited for Monica's story and to see what they will get into next. I wish I could rate this series 10 ⭐️. You will want to stop what you are doing and buy this series. It's wonderful and you will not be disappointed.
I received an ARC of this book and was not paid to read or review this book.

There's nothing Semi about this book except the title , it's a Full On awesome read!

So Ms Hunter has done it again, another suspenseful page turn that has you itching to read just a little more...... I was lucky enough to receive a ARC of this fantastic book and I finished it in two days.

As always Elizabeth Hunter writes the most relatable characters, I have friendship envy when it comes to the wonderful relationship between Val and her two best friends Monica and Robin.

The trials and tribulations a family goes through when the parents have divorced is written beautifully and with care and sensitivity in this second installment of the Glimmer Lake series.

Val is a heroine that many of us will aspire to be like, she doesn't have all the answers but she doesn't give up and keeps slogging on, with a whole lot of wit and sass thrown in.

I throughly enjoyed this book and think everyone else will too.

Highly recommended

Enjoy

Val Costa is one of a trio of friends who obtained a version of a psychic power during a terrible accident. Val is a single Mom of teenage sons and owns a cool coffee shop. If that’s not hard enough, her deadbeat ex goes missing. She and her friends, as well as HOT romantic interest Sherrif Sully go on the hunt for what truly happened to Josh. I love the PNR/Mystery with a side of quirk that is the premise of Hunter’s latest series! I can’t wait for Monica’s story! Hey, where can I get a macchiato and one of Honey’s bear claws?!?!

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

I've been waiting for book two in the Glimmer Lake series ever since I read book one. I liked book one but I love book two. The way these three friends stick together makes me want to go out and join them. I can see myself sitting in Val's café drinking her coffee and eating her baked goods. In fact, Ms. Hunter's description of the place is so good that for a moment I thought I was actually smelling the coffee. And the sexy sheriff Sully? Well, he made me swoon. Yes, even an old woman like me still appreciates hot men. Lastly, I have to say that the mystery was good and some of the banter between the friends made me laugh out loud more than once. I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advance copy so I didn't have to wait too long to read the book. But now the wait in on again for book three. I highly recommend you all get both books. I know you'll enjoy them.

This is another 4.5 in this series for me! I just love these ladies ( 3 main characters, and each book in the trilogy focuses on one of them). I love their friendships, the psychic premise behind each woman, and the crimes they solve! I also just love how these books make me feel when I close them!

A little bit of chick lit, mystery, paranormal activity, psychic powers....I mean...what’s not to like?!

Can’t wait to read the third book in this series!

I have been looking forward to this book ever since we met Val in the first Glimmer Lake book, Suddenly Psychic. This book is fast paced and has this high octane energy quality, so it pulled me right into the story very quickly. Val is a 45 year old, ex-rocker, single Mom with a kickass hair style and attitude, running a coffee shop and raising two boys. She has the weight of the world on her shoulders and is also having to deal with her Ex and his irresponsible childish lifestyle. Oh, also she has a psychic touch. She can touch an object and “see” what is going on in someone’s life. She hates having this ability. Hates it.
Then meet Sully, a huge-beefcake-lumberjack-sheriff-man who is very interested in Val. They had a one-nighter she can’t forget and she won’t admit it happened to her besties, Robin and Monica. (Who also have physic abilities. You gotta read the first book!) Even though they SO know it happened just like any life-long-best-friends would.
Her loser of an ex-husband gets Val pulled into a situation she doesn’t want to be in and pushes her and Sully together more and more. She is not happy with any of it. She just wants a simple life of working and being the “cool” Mom.
I love seeing Val grow in this book and start accepting her new normal instead of fighting it. Also how Sully deals with her “psychic touch” ability. (That was a hoot!) He is a wonderfully patient great guy and funny too. There is always some humor in Elizabeth Hunter’s books. I laughed out loud a couple of times while reading this book.
This is also a great story to get lost in during these Covid19 times. It’s a fast paced fun story that pulls you right into the Glimmer Lake world.
This book was given to me as an ARC and this is my honest review.

I have been lucky enough to receive an early copy of this book and HOT DAMN it's soooooo good!!

Seriously, I wanna be Val so badly!! She's the "cool mom" of 2 fantastic boys, with amazing friends and a wicked hot sheriff that kinda digs her. As a single mom, she's got more than her fair share of responsibilities. Add to that a psychic touch and everything kinda blows up. With everyone around her, Val finds the strength to do what needs to be done and in grand style!

Elizabeth Hunter has done it again!! Cannot wait until Psychic Dreams!

I was one of the luck ones who got an early copy. I could not put this book down! EH writes such real characters with real life situations mixed in with all the fun and adventure. Val is such a beautiful mum doing all she can to make her boys happy and safe. Loved reading the trials this trio of women go through and how they succeed in making their lives better! Can’t wait for the next book!

I didn't know how Val was going to work into a book. I now know she was great. This book was all kinds of good. I felt she is going to always have a little more to worry about then the others. I hope one day she will have enough control over everything to be happy and use the power for her. I was very pleased with how the book wrapped up. It had everything I needed for closer. I can't wait to see how the next book goes. I think each one of them are going to be special. This is part of the PWF Powerful woman's fiction book club. It is a book about a woman over 40 still being able to kick butt.

Loving this series! After reading book one earlier this spring, I knew I was going to love Val's story. While I wouldn't consider this a romance story...there was a touch in there. I loved the humor in the story and how the story really revolved around the three friends.

Great story....can't wait for Monica's story in August.
