Her Scream in the Silence is book two in the Carly Moore series by Denise Grover Swank. This book starts up about a month I believe, after the first book ended. And once again, Carly finds herself right in the middle of all kinds of trouble.

Carly Moore is on the run. It’s how she ended up in Drum, Tennessee. Her car quit on her and she was stranded. Drum has no cell reception, no internet and proves to be the perfect hiding place. Hiding in plain sight. She likes her job at Max’s Tavern and the people that work there, Max, Ruth and Tiny, have become her family of sorts. She’s been seeing Wyatt Drummond for about a month now but things aren’t going well. She cares for him but Wyatt has some pretty serious communication issues. Secrets he refuses to share!

Carly had been getting all the hours at work she could handle since Lula had run off, which was why she was originally hired. But unexpectedly, Lula comes back. Max, their boss, can’t bear to let Carly go so they agree to share the hours. Carly feels a sudden protectiveness towards Lula which was short lived because after only one day back, she disappears again. Only this time, Carly suspects she didn’t leave of her own free will and is determined to save Lula only no one seems to want to help her, except the Deputy Sheriff, Marco Roland, who is still recovering from his gun shot wound he received saving Carly in the first book.

Carly is growing to love living in Drum and truly cares for the residents there. But she’s supposed to be hiding, not putting herself right in the middle of yet another huge pile of trouble. She only wants to find Lula and also, Lula’s best friend, Greta, who is also missing. The list of suspects grows by the minute as Carly and Marco search for answers.

This book, as was the first one, is non stop from the beginning to the end. I couldn’t put it down. Carly is a lioness when it comes to protecting people. She’s barely known Lula for a full day but can’t help but to want to help her. Once again she is putting her life on the line trying to do what’s right. I enjoyed watching the relationship between she and Marco strengthen. I think they are just what each other needs. I have to admit that both Max and Wyatt are on my bad list right now. The decisions they are making and the impacts it has on Carly are unforgivable.

The next book in this series, book three, it titled One Foot in the Grave. I can’t wait to see what Denise has in store for our Carly.

This is the second installment in the Carly
Moore series and Denise Grover Swank knocked it out of the park!! 👏🏼👏🏼
This book deserves 10 stars!! Seriously!! Do yourself a favor and pick this book up!!

Carly’s character has certainly developed throughout the time that we have known her. I’m loving who she is becoming and finally embracing who she has been hiding all this time. She certainly grew a backbone in this book. (You go girl!!!)

My emotions were all over this book from sad tears, to happy tears for Carly. I have come to love Hank in this book. He’s such a big teddy bear when it comes to Carly. I also enjoyed watching her friendship develop with a certain handsome deputy too. I cannot wait to see what happens next in, “One Foot in the Grave”. If you think this book was explosive wait for the next one. It’s going to be EPIC!!

If you love reading mystery books, and be totally engrossed to each single word in the book, then pick this book up. Trust me, you will avoid everyone in your home till you finish the book and even then. I’m still reeling from everything that happened.

Oh man, do I adore Carly. With every scene she's in, her strength, courage, and intelligence just grows and grows. Her Scream in the Silence is the type of mystery that keeps you guessing all the way. The twists and turns were nearly impossible for me to predict and the cast of characters have so much depth and are so well written. The feelings pulled out of me while reading this story were so varied and intense. It was a wild ride for sure. With no idea who's good, bad, and misunderstood, I'll be awaiting the next installment with bated breath. Another fabulous escape from one of my favorite authors.

OMG! Incredibly amazing! Can't gather my thoughts and emotions all in one place after finishing Her scream in the Silence, the second book in Carly Moore series. It was a real blast!
I loved Carly in first book but in this one she grew more and more in front of my eyes by each passing moment of reading this story! She is such a strong, intelligent and smart woman! I loved to see how she became to accept and embrace who she is, not hiding anymore, standing up for herself and those she loves and cares. Yes, family isn't always blood, it's how they stand for each other!
Loved all the old and new characters, so well developed and realistic - some to love, some to hate. Loved to see their relationships grow, understandings and mistakes, forgiveness and trust. Life isn't just black and white, there are so many different shades of all the colors which makes person who and what they are.
Absolutely great mystery, hard to guess who is who and who to trust.
I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next installment!

Denise outdid herself with this one! Carly is a feisty heroine who refuses to back down in the face of adversity. Add in a cast of intriguing characters that are unpredictable and fascinating and you have a fantastic read.
'Her Scream in the Silence' is a gripping mystery that I could not put down. Carly learned quickly that life in Drum is definitely not dull. When the beloved Lula returns after her latest disappearing act, Carly's initial worry is that she may be out of a job. Soon, that uncertainty is set aside because Lula goes missing again and Carly suspects foul play. The only person willing to help her is off-duty Sheriff Deputy Marco Roland. The suspects are many and when another woman goes missing, Carly is even more determined to solve the mystery.

Words... where are my words for this book?! This book was phenomenal! Carly’s world may be the start of my next favorite series.

Readers of Rose Gardner’s world are going to want to dive into this spin off series. Carly is her own person. She’s learned to not rely on people. They’ve been a let down for her for a long time. And unfortunately, Wyatt seems to be the one letting her down time and time again by not letting her in to his background and his past. Which leads to their unfortunate demise of their relationship.

This strong, independent woman is taking Drum by storm! She may not always feel the love with all of the members of this country town but she doesn’t let that stop her from trying to find two missing gals, Lula and Greta. The farther Carly digs the more she finds and the more confusing it gets to connect all of the puzzle pieces together. Roommate, Hank, helps Carly along with her research for finding Greta and Lula by informing her of some of the things that happened in the past. Although Hank would prefer to leave that in the past where it belongs.

Carly has used Marco, a cop from the first novel that is currently on medical leave, to help her search for clues. They become close where she can trust him enough with information that she finds in her quest. Could Marco become a new love interest? Or will it always be Wyatt? You’ll need to read the book to find out!

This book had me on my toes the entire time and feeling so many different things. The pain, the anger, the betrayal, the hurt from not just her love interest but from some of her close friends but in the end she finds more friends. Deciding to stay a little while longer in Drum, Tennessee to see what she can do next to kick some butt and take some names.

A fantastic mystery book! The last 30% of the book will have you unable to put this book down!

If you loved Denise’s Rose Gardner series, you will love Carly. Full of lies, deceit, and so much more. Great story. Super interesting characters. A really good story. My suspicion about certain characters came to light. But there’s so much more of the story to tell.

Carly has found a place to belong. She loves this one light town. She has made friends and really cares about what goes on in town. Sometimes to much it seems. Lula has come home and is ready to stay put awhile. She is not what Carly expected. Carly instantly finds herself caring for the girl. When Lula turns up missing Carly is determent to find her.

I am so worried that Carly is going to blow her cover. She really dug in deep trying to find Lula. I think that Both Wyatt and Max where very wrong with how they handled things. I am team Carly. She needs to help herself some and not worry about someone else. She just moved there and really she can be friends with everyone till she decides for sure where she wants to be. The mystery in the book was awesome. I could not figure out who did what. I was in circles till the end. The end was a moment of clarity. I think Carly has found some friends in places that she is going to need in the long run. I can't even with Bart. He is a whole lot of bad. I think out of everyone he is the worst and Carly needs to watch him more then she thinks she should.

I think this book is a more then a 5 star book. everything about it is awesome. I am loving the way Carly's story is going. It is crazy good. I can't wait for the next one.

Lula is back and Carly worries her job is in jeopardy. That is until Lula disappears as quick as she came. When nobody else seems worried about her Carly takes things into her own hands to find her. She talks her new friend Marco into helping her investigate. When another woman disappears it's clear Carly could be next. Things aren't quite what they seem and the betrayals sting a bit.

Another amazing mystery! I loved it! I was excited to get back to Carly and her life in Drum. There are so many emotions brewing throughout this book and it really takes you for a ride. Every new piece of information is an amazing motivator to never put this book down! Carly is the sweetest person in the world...until you get on her bad side. She was so feisty and impressive! She is a fighter and she's fighting for herself and everyone she cares about. She is the ultimate woman character and I can't wait to see what she does next! And I loved Marco and their new relationship! Can't wait to see more of him!

Incredible. Captivating. Binge worthy. I really think that each book that Denise Grover Swank writes gets better and better. I absolutely loved how Carly has grown into the independent, self sufficient, strong woman she is today.

Shortly after Lula returns she disappears, and Carly is determined to find out what happened to her. All signs are pointing to someone taking her, but the question is who and why. Carly and Marco are in this together .... but I have to stop and wonder if Marco has other motives with helping Carly. Carly seems to be asking the right people and questions because before she knows it Lula's friend, Greta goes missing soon after. Now she is on a mission of finding two girls all while trying to determine who she can trust to help her. She doesn't want to spill secrets, but it seems like the only way to get answers is by revealing what she knows to get the help she needs.

There are definitely surprises and twists along the way that will keep you interested and glued to the story. I am looking forward to see what happens next in this series.

One word.....OMG! This book is a page turner from beginning to end. If you haven't read the first one, A Cry in the Dark, stop what you're doing and read it before you read this. I seriously couldn't put this book down.

Carly takes things into her own hands when the town of Drum won't take Lula's disappearance seriously. Then a second woman turns up missing. Will Carly, with the help of her friend Marco, be able to find them both in time? Or have they both disappeared for good? This book will keep you guessing at these answers and questioning everything you know about the characters from the first book.

In my personal opinion, this book was so much better than the 1st one, and I absolutely can't wait for the next book in the series! This series is a spin off of the Rose Gardner books, but it totally is able to stand on it's own two feet. If you're a fan of DGS's Rose and Neely Kate series you will come across a lot of similarities in this book. Carly is just as much of a bada** as Rose and Neely Kate and I hope to see them all back together again in a future book. If you haven't given this series a shot yet because you feel like you'd be "betraying" Rose and NK, do yourself a favor and pick this series up. You won't regret it!

I really enjoyed the beginning of Carly’s adventures in the first book of this series, but I think I love the second installment even more! Denise is a master storyteller who brings these characters to life. In this book, Lula returns (the waitress Carly is filling in for), but then promptly vanishes. Because she is always disappearing, no one seems concerned, except Carly. During her search for Lula, Carly teams up with some new people and begins to see some other people for how they really are.

I really loved the twists and turns in this book, and I did not predict the ending! I also love that we get to know Carly even better. Her character development gives us more insight into who she really is as a person: kind, loving, and thoughtful, but also fiercely independent, tough, and no-nonsense. I have so much respect for her. She’s not afraid to do the right thing, even when it’s the hard thing. But she’s also not one of those characters who just makes a series of bad decisions and then wonders why she’s in the position she’s in. All of Carly’s decisions seem logical to me.

I also appreciate the family that Carly has created for herself in Drum, and I really love watching her relationships grow and deepen with so many people. And while I definitely have a preference for a romantic partner for her, this book is about so much more than who Carly is dating. It’s about creating the family you need and sometimes letting go of the people you don’t. Based on the events of this book, I’m eagerly anticipating the next installment!

Denise Grover Swank said that Her Scream in the Silence was her favorite book to write. I can 100% see why! Carly has quickly turned into a series where I NEED to know what happens next.

In this second tale of Drum, we see the return of Lula, the waitress that Carly took over for. We see Carly's relationship with Wyatt as they open up about their pasts (or not?). We get to know Marco Roland a lot more than we did in the last book and I have to say...I think I like him.

The way that Denise writes is just phenomenal. Even though it's not your typical "mystery", every time you feel like you've got something figured out, you find out you were wrong. Or, you were right but now everything has changed again. She perfectly captures what life is like in a small town where big things happen. I love the character of Carly Moore. She's very reminiscent of early Rose Gardner, but in this book she begins to find her voice. Let me tell you, I was here for it!

I already am on pins and needles waiting for June. I need to know what Carly is going to get up to next.

A story with a backbone
Carly Moore is a sweet soul with a soft spot for the downtrodden and they sure know how to find her. Like Lula, for example, a waitress at Max’s tavern, who suddenly disappears. The plot unfolds from there, with layer upon layer of mystery, as secrets from the past unravel themselves. Well-written, fast-paced, this book is much more than a cozy mystery.
The Carly Moore series has the author’s characteristic trademark: the in-depth character development, a gift her fans know well from the Rose Gardner series. It’s such a pleasure to read a book, close it and have the need to go over it again. It’s so much fun to analyze it and discuss it in groups. You get plenty of fodder for that in this installment.
Passionate, intriguing, full of mystery and action: this novel is a must.

4.5 Stars!

This is the second installment in Carly’s series and it did not disappoint! She grew such a backbone in this novel and I loved that she was willing to stand up for herself. She’s come into her own so well since meeting Rose and NK. I also loved Marco in this book and love how closely him and Carly work together on Lula’s disappearance. I continued to enjoy getting to know all the people of Drum and meeting new folks along the way. There’s lots of twists throughout this novel that threw me for a loop and had me experiencing all different emotions. You just never know who Carly should trust. This series definitely parallels Rose Gardner’s series in a lot of ways, so give it a shot if you like Rose!

How I have missed Carly Moore’s world! This book was a page turner and kept me guessing and piecing together Carly’s investigation the entire book. I really love these characters and DGS’s ability to make them feel like good friends. In this second book, once again, Carly finds herself in a heap of trouble. She has a back of sticking her nose into places she doesn’t belong. After living in Drum for a month she has begun to make some influential friends. Secrets abound in this great story! A must read if you like to solve a mystery with our leading female. She is getting stronger everyday and in this book, Carly is beginning to trust her instincts and herself.

Denise has done it again! If I could, I'd give this book 10 stars or more. Carly is becoming such a strong amazing woman and I completely adore her. I absolutely love this book and while I loved the first book in the series it just keeps getting better and better. I really enjoyed the new friendships that Carly is gaining as her spirals out of control. Drum might be off the grid, but it couldn't be more dangerous. Definitely a page turner from beginning to end and I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. So many different emotions flowing.

If you love Rose and Neely Kate this is an amazing spin off, but it's also great on it's own. I hope you all love it as much as I did.

Denise Grover Swank has done it again! Her Scream in the Silence is a fantastic book. When a storyline is well written, I hate when I finish the book. I sit there thinking ‘Wow!’ I’m now invested in the story and the main characters. I ask the question, ‘what’s could possibly be next?’ But, the last chapter in Her Scream in the Silence is definitely mind blowing! The secrets, suspense, intrigue and character failings are generated by Denise Gardner Swank once again in a manner only she can achieve. The Carly Moore series is unique, exciting and thought provoking. So worth reading!

What an amazing read! I loved A Cry in the Dark but somehow Her Scream in Silence is even better. There are so many twists and turns. I was guessing throughout the entire book. When I thought I had things figured out things changed and I was left guessing again. Carly has grown so much since the Rose books. She is so fierce and strong. She has learned to accept help when needed but she can also identify that she is strong and capable on her own. I love that we see a lot more of Marco. I also loved Lula, which I did not expect. I now have a new favorite Denise Grover Swank book!

Holy cow is this an emotional ride! I absolutely LOVED this book! We find Carly about 3 weeks after all the action in book 1. She has settled into Drum and then Lula shows up. She is sure she will be fired but as it happens Lula disappears again. Carly sets out to find her. So much drama ensues in the investigation she launches to find Lula. Another disappearance, her finding her backbone, finding new allies, and secrets being revealed. I am excited to get to know Carly better and find out more of her world. There are actually quite a few parallels to the world of Rose Gardener. If you like the Rose series then this series is for you!

I was very eager to read this second book in the Carly Moore series. We first met her in Rose Gardner’s world but Carly has step away from there and is now living in hiding from her father in Drum TN. Each book has a mystery solved within it but there is also a bigger picture puzzle that we get more information from each edition.

In the first book, Carly starts working at a bar / restaurant filling in for the ever elusive Lula, but now she’s back and things are not quite what they should be. Carly and her new bestie Marco are teaming up this time to help find the missing women.

Everyone is back in this novel with a few other smaller characters and I’m loving them all. I had been saving this book to read while on holidays and I was hoping to read it leisurely but of course I got so hooked up with it all, I stayed up to the wee hours of the morning to finish it. I needed to know all the bits and pieces and what was going to happen next. Carly is my new favourite sleuth and I’m hoping she sticks around for a long time to come yet. She may need to run from Drum as things are heating up for her there but maybe a certain mechanic will be more open and she will have an extra reason to stay.

I feel fans of DGS are sure to love Carly as much as I do and any mystery reader will adore her too. Great series.

4.5/5.0
Love every single thing about this story, it’s characters and the series. It does feel weirdly reminiscent of the Rose Gardner series it takes off of. But, I adore that series, as well, so I’m not complaining! Wyatt’s character was SUPER frustrating in this installment, so much so that I really don’t even like him anymore. But, even that drawback doesn’t stop me from salivating for the next book in this pitch-perfect mystery series.

Her Scream in the Silence is a wonderfully nuanced book that doesn't fully hit you until you finish the book begin to think about what really happened in this book. This was a book that was a gamechanger for Carly. She grew up fast in this book and is starting to realize that the only person she can rely on is herself.

Carly has found herself in more trouble in Drum Tennessee. This is a town full of secrets and Hank said it best, secrets are their own form of currency and Carly has been a little to free with her secrets, which I believe will come back to haunt her in the end. However, Carly has finally learned that if she is going to get out of the mess in her life, she is the one who will have to do it.

Through the events of this book, Carly has finally found an inner strength she never knew she had. She is finally learning to trust herself and to take control of her life for the first time. It was nice to see her standing up for herself and living life on her own terms. She is going to have her hands full navigating her new reality and it should be interesting to see how this all plays over the next few books. The people in her life have lived a life on the edge and many of them have done what they needed to survive in a town full of betrayal. These individuals have learned to be guarded and closed off in order to protect themselves and I have a feeling that some may not hesitate to throw Carly under the bus in order to protect what little they have in their own lives.

Her Scream in the Silence a great follow up book that lays the groundwork for what should be an exciting and thrilling serious and It will be interesting to see who are the last ones standing with Carly

I didn't realise this was the second book in the series so I'm definitely going to buy the first book and read that after I write this. Having said that, obviously there is history there but I didn't find myself lost or unable to grasp what was going on because I hadn't read the first one. So that was great :)

The twists and turns in this made it hard for me to put it down. This was such a fun read with a whole host of complex characters that makes me wish the 3rd book was out NOW! After DNF-ing a ridiculous amount of books in the last month, this was such a welcome change. I'm not sure I've read this author before, but after reading this, I definitely want to.

Just to be clear, this is not a romance (I'm avoiding them for a while until authors start releasing decent reads). While there is romance elements in here, it's not the main focus. It's more a mystery - and a compelling one at that. I dropped a star because about midway through the book, Carly ends up doing really dumb things that put her in danger. Like, REALLY DUMB!! But I still enjoyed the overall story and can't wait for the 3rd book. So while I wait, I'll read the first one :)

Carly Moore just can't leave well enough alone. She just met Lula, the girl she (temporarily) replaced at Max's Tavern, but she takes a liking to her immediately. When Lula disappears, everyone treats it as Lula being Lula; running off again and shirking responsibility. Carly knows it's something else. She knows that it's more than it appears to be yet no one believes her. She decides to take on the mystery herself and damn the consequences. She knows that if two kind-hearted women hadn't gone out of their way to help her, her life could be very different now.

This book had my emotions all over the place: up, down, sideways, backwards..... It was a definite roller-coaster. I know there were a few times when I yelled out or at the book while I was reading. There were times when I found myself trying to nudge Carly with my mind (as if!) to try to get her to do what I wanted her to do. She's so danged stubborn that even if I could nudge a fictional character, she wouldn't do it!

Of course the book leaves us on a cliff hanger because the book would be 700 pages+ if not. Not giving anything away but I really pictured Carly doing a "mic drop" in her head at the end. The next book is going to be so tasty!! Can't wait to devour it like I did this one.
