Really fascinating romance set during the Warlord Era in Chinese history. Real characters are mixed in with the fictional as a romance unfolds in an arranged marriage between the Li family's third son, Yi Lian Kai and Qin Sang. From a scholarly family on its way down in society, she has much to learn about high society and political maneuvering between the different warring groups. Her first question - why am I here?

This time period was very interesting to read about - it's the first interim period between the old Imperial system and the modern Community party.
