Born 1986 in the prefecture Aichi, Horikoshi first attracted attention in the second half of 2006 when he entered Shueisha's 72th Tezuka Award for Newcomers with his one shot "Nukegara" and made it to the final six, where he gained himself an "Honorable Mention".
Various short stories in Shueisha's Akamaru JUMP followed over the years until he published his one shot "Oumagadoki Doubutsuen" in issue #2/2010 of Weekly Shounen JUMP.

Kouhei Horikoshi is a graduate of Nagoya University of Arts. He was previously an assistant to TANAKA Yasuki.

I loved that we got the backstories of minor characters like Suneater and Kirishima. Deku was hardly present in this volume, which is interesting. Instead, we got to see the awesome Kirishima in action. I really enjoyed it.

Honestly, this is one of the best shounen mangas I've read so far. It reminds me of the glory days of Fairy Tail, before it got repetitive and overloaded with fan service. All the characters are special in their own way, I haven't felt like any of them are stereotypes, and they all have their depth and complexity. It has all the tropes of Shounen, but it uses them in the best way.

Es increíble lo buena que es la historia en este punto.

Tamaki soy yo todo el tiempo. Imposible no sentirme representado e interpelado. Me encantó su historia de fondo con Mirio. Son tan opuestos como la luna y el sol.

Y luego está otra vez el protagonista absoluto del tomo anterior y nuevamente de este: Red Riot o más conocido como Kirishima. Sobran las palabras para un personaje secundario tan bien hecho. Mi protegido.

Y bueno, mención especial para Fat Gum otra vez.

Y qué bonito, hermoso y precioso es cuando no aparece la cara del pendejo de Bakugo. Soy tan feliz sin su fastidiosa presencia.

واینم از جلد شانزدهم مانگاmy hero academia...
این جلد شروع نبرد در برابر یاکوزای هشت حکم بود که روی یک سری فایت خاص زوم کرده بود این جلد که فایت فت گام و کیریشیما در برابر دو عضو هشت حکم بود که فایت جالب و زیبایی بود و خیلی لذت بخش بود و در طی فایت هم با گذشته کیریشیما اشنا شدیم و سیر تحولش رو شاهد بودیم...
و در اخر جلد شاهد شروع فایتی دیگر در برابر دو عضو لیگ تاریکی بودیم که امیدوارم فایت خوبی بشه.....
آرت خیلی جذابی داشت که خیلی پرجزییات کار شده بود و مثل همیشه عالی بود.....
این مانگا رو از دست ندید.....

This was fantastic! It is one of those rare volumes where the main character is put aside to focus on other secondary characters, and it turned out to be brilliantly executed.

Eijiro Kirishima’s character is the one that got the best focus and I loved how much development goes on around him.

The story also reveals a lot of the villains’ plan and where it’s all headed. I like the structure of these stories and how fun it is to follow everything.

We hit the ground running from the very start and there was so much action, twists and turns, all of it so very exciting and nail biting! The action is amazingly drawn along with the characters’ emotions as always, but it was just so much more noticeable in this volume, especially with Kirishima and Tamaki’s backstories woven in at just the right moments to enhance their fights and the motivations driving them.

I am still freaked out by Toga though, what a disturbing person. *shudder* So glad she didn’t permanently harm Deku or Eraser Head though I dread her popping back into the fight in the next volume.

Things left on a cliffhanger which normally wouldn’t be bad except that the next few volumes are checked out at my library so now I have to wait, gah! I hate waiting when things are heating up like this! Unfortunately I have no choice but to wait, lol. Eagerly looking forward to the next volume!

Read the entire volume right after I woke up this morning. This is such a great one: Suneater's moment in the spotlight and Kirishima's backstory, plus the action gearing up towards the final fight. Just overall awesome.

I really like getting to see some of the more side characters getting to have the spotlight. Kirishima is definitely more interesting to me after reading this volume. I also like seeing the big 3.

I like the new villains' backstory, and I wonder how will they work together with the League of Villains?

This time the story is focused on Red Riot and how he found his footing in the practice of hero work, and there are three other upper-classers battling the bad guys, so far so good.

PS: but I admit I first read some super cute boy's love fanfics about this series first before I got to the story canon!

This is one of the best volumes of My Hero Academia to date. It isn’t split between two arcs and instead focuses entirely on the storming of the Yakuza stronghold. The pacing is fantastic and there’s a lot of focus on supporting characters which you all know I love.

We get a two chapter mini-arc that focuses heavily on Tamaki Amajiki, a recently introduced third year and member of The Big Three. He is also the most precious character in the series. We get some nice flashbacks and get to see him use his quirk at it’s strongest. Tamaki has one of the most unique and interesting quirks in the series so it’s really fun to see it drawn in action.

The rest of the book heavily focuses on Kirishima. He direly needed some development outside of being manly and being Bakugo’s best friend. We get a lot of background on him, and he gets some really cool action in the present. I’m a lot more invested in him as a characters now. I also kind of want to ship him and Mina together. I never really thought she belonged in the BakuSquad until these chapters.

I really hope the next volume holds up to this kind of quality. I’m of the slightly unpopular opinion that My Hero Academia had a bit of a shaky start but I firmly believe that it has molded itself into one of the best shounen manga ever created and I’m so glad that I’m along for the ride.

Horikoshi keeps bringing all that shonen goodness! Kohei Horikoshi continues the amazing world building and action you expect out this manga series. What impresses me the most about this series is how Horikoshi balances the focus on so many characters. This volume is no exception as Eijiro Kirishima aka Red Riot gets the spotlight this time around. To many Kirishima's super power might seem a little boring. He simply has the ability to harden his skin into stone. In this volume of the current arc Kirishima is having trouble finding courage to face villains in life or death situations. After all the definition of hero is being willing to lay down ones own life to protect others. The battles and flashbacks featuring Red Riot carry a lot of weight and really resonated with me. We all hope that we have the strength of character and will to protect the innocent and our friends as well. This book was all about those youth that feel inadequate compared to their peers overcoming these fears and finding their own unique strength. The book ends on a great cliffhanger as the League of Villains has entered the fray. I am excited to see how our heroes of Class A will fare in the coming battle.
