Sometimes a risk feels too big to take.

Tanner is smart, wealthy, and head over heels for his administrative assistant. That doesn’t mean he’s going to do anything about it, though. Some gambles are just too big for an omega to take, even one who seems to have it all. Omegas are supposed to be family-oriented, go-getters at work, and equal in every way. The one thing they’re not supposed to be is submissive.

Shane is organized, built like a tank, and passionate about making his boss’s life easier. He also might be in love with Tanner, but he’s always been careful to keep that safely tucked away. Tanner could be the perfect man, but he’s never even looked twice at Shane until secrets start coming to the surface.

When everything is riding on one confession, is the risk just too much?

This was nice enough, but not enough to give it more than 3.5 stars.

I guess what bothered me the most was the world these guys lived in. It felt incredibly claustrophobic and I had a really hard time with it.

In this book omegas are not lower class people. They are strong and independent. But unfortunately this society took it a bit too far. Now it’s frowned upon for omegas to cook, or to do chores. They are not allowed to have an alpha dominate them, even if they’d wanted to. Sex shops are not allowed, but are to be called novelty shops where you can buy ‘gag gifts’. And an omega is not allowed in, since they could be… GASP… corrupted!

Tanner is quite a successful businessman. He is a strong and independent omega, just like society wants him to be. But he also secretly wants a big strong alpha to dominate him and to even spank him when he’s been naughty.

Luckily he has a tight group of omega friends who all feel the same way, so they decide to start a secret BDSM club.

When Tanner’s assistant Shane finds out about these plans, Shane is quite shocked. He has learned that as an alpha he cannot hover or dominate an omega, that’s just wrong. But here it looks like his boss wants exactly that.

So that’s why Shane decides to show Tanner he might be the alpha Tanner has been looking for…

This book had a lot going for it. I liked these men, and I liked how the romance progressed and never felt forced.

But I was also a little bored at times, and I couldn’t stop being irritated at this society and how they dictated how omegas and alphas should behave. It’s nice that omegas were no longer taken advantage off, but this was just ridiculous.

So overall this was a sweet angst free book and I liked it enough to try the other books.

Took me a bit to get into this .. found it a bit slow at first. There’s potential in this series, a light bit of fun. Not sure I’m a fan of the Omegaverse.. it’s not my scene

DNF @40%

The book started with a prologue (that I assume was meant to be a general prologue to the series and not a prologue to this specific book, because the POV character was not the same as the book) that confused me because it introduced 6 characters at once that were near impossible to distinguish, and their yapping about the same things over and over took up 10% of this book when it could have easily been cut by two thirds and conveyed the same information.

The book itself took ages to get anywhere and the writing felt uninspired. The conversations were inane and weirdly hard to follow, and since there wasn't a lot of on-page time with the MC:s together I lost interest.

I made the mistake of reading this during breaks at work...and I'm a little amazed that I was able to function and not just sit waving a fan at my face because damn, that was hot! I'm liking Shaw's take on alpha/beta/omega dynamics a lot, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for the other 5 friends -- since I'm sure that she won't leave Wade out of an HEA!

Fun Twist

I was very much surprised how much I loved this twist on a sexual relationship between A/O... The idea sex is strictly for procreation and knotting is inappropriate... Is wonderfully refreshing... Tanner and Austin were a great introductory couple to this omegaverse setting... Kinky is absolutely a huge part of this series... So come ready for a refreshing idea or two for your own bedroom...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it takes us along with Tanner and Shane. I loved how it was acknowledged that things had moved along too far in one direction, which wasn't benefitting anyone.

Tanner and Shane are such a cute couple. I loved how open-minded Shane was and even able to put his own little twist to things. Plus, his relationships with the other omegas was just a joy to read.

A brilliant introduction to this world and I really want to read more! Absolutely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Shane and Tanner have a shift in their working relationship after Shane discovers some things about Tanner that he hadn't known before..

"I was important to him.
Me. Not the boss who ran the company he worked for. Not his work acquaintance he was careful not to get too personal with. Me."

The passion these men have together is explosive.

"Every flood of sensation from the painful pleasure that fired through me had me sinking deep into the knowledge that there was nothing I had to do and nothing I had to worry about. I'd given everything I had to Shane. and he'd soaked it up like it had always belonged to him.
I was his.
I was his to punish or pleasure.
I was his to use and tease.
I was his."

Societies rules and their own upbringing has Tanner struggling to except that what he wants won't scare off Shane.

"I'd always been told that wanting to please an alpha was an old-fashioned notion and one that was in the past for a reason, but I loved it. It settled something deep inside me I'd always needed to keep hidden from almost everyone.
"My good omega."
"Thank you, Alpha."

Damn. They were beautiful together.

"All I wanted was to give him everything.
Every ounce of pleasure he craved.
Every flash of pain He'd always dreamed about.
Every drop of understanding he'd always needed but never found.
I wanted to be his everything."

This was super sexy and sweet and I loved everything about this story. I loved all of Tanner's friends and I can't wait to read their stories too.

You know, I always expect SM/MAI to bring it with the hot & dirty sexy times, but this time they also brought some thought-provoking social commentary.

At first, the cultural construct was a little difficult to grab. It was quite different than the usual ABO trope with a heavy emphasis on how proper equality between the genders was to be approached. Which, okay, I get that. But the author also touched on how it was often the Betas that were pushing this agenda, almost infantilizing Omegas in trying so hard to "protect" them. Seemingly without taking the Omegas' opinions into consideration. Yes, I'm sure it was a tough road to hoe for Omegas to get that equality but by instituting corruption laws and making it so that Omegas couldn't own their own sexuality...well, it was taking the Omegas' power away in another way. It took away their choices to step outside these prescribed roles and negated any say they had in their own agency.

But here we get a group of Omega friends challenging that, wanting to explore submission within their own boundaries, within their own bedrooms, and having to face how difficult every aspect of that would be. From find discrete contractors to build their BDSM club, to finding open-minded Alphas willing to explore submission with them.

Very much looking forward to the next books to eventually see how these guys get their HEAs, and maybe clueing in society at large that they don't need meddling with.

This world that Shaw Montgomery has made has turned the A/B/O world on it's axis.

Alphas aren't dominant and Omega aren't submissive. What?? And the laws that exist are just so crazy. This is a very interesting series, looking forward to the next book.

I was enjoying this up to about 35% through. The setup was novel enough and I was looking forward to the trials and tribulations of a group of friend setting up a sex club. The novel increasingly moved into smut strung together by a little plot and the sex scenes just weren’t doing it for me.

What I Think: From the generous coffers of the GGRC, comes this sweet tale and it reminded me again why I love being a reviewer. Imagine my teenage girl squeal when I began this tale and it was set in the Omegaverse! It’s a surprise that will never lose its lustre. A classic case of who wan die don jam who wan kill (the person that seeks death has found the person that wants to kill), Shane’s life is about to turn upside down and in the best of ways. Tanner is planning something and in the next minute I can tell he’s going to be in trouble because what he’s looking for in Sokoto, is already in his shokoto ((pants) basically, what he thinks he can’t find is waaaay closer than he thinks). The come to the goddess moment is going to be spine-tingling, my spidey senses announce so I dive in head-long, and get confused immediately. Are Omega’s the bees knee’s in this fairytale? (also bee’s knees – who thinks up these things?) Are they running Alphas instead of the other way around? Nope. It’s worse. They’re being forced into a stupid box that is supposed to protect them from themselves and others. Hnm, imagine a POC family that’s politically correct and woke (I have confirmed this with Indian and Mexican acquaintances too), then take it to a level 100 and spread it nationwide and you get my drift. Tanner is such a naughty boy, and methinks he doth protest too much as he shuts down every dirty talk involving Shane. Ah, some have eyes but cannot see. I hope this series is going to go through all the friends in this clique because I’m so bloody curious to know who they really are and to see them through the eyes of their lovers, but first, let’s get sweet, absolutely delicious Tanner his happy ending. Oy vay, that sounded much better in my head. Aaand rant begins. Why won’t people just focus on the important things? Tanner’s inability to be his true self due to the box society keeps putting him in is plain crazy, especially as society isn’t keeping him warm at night. It’s like the war on sexuality. It’s not anyone’s business what happens between consenting adults behind closed doors but the dirty minded people are too busy thinking about it and insist on taking Panadol for another person’s headache. Get. A. Life! The omegas’ reality is just as bad as my reality with society eyeballing my bedroom and neither extreme is attractive. I tell people that not only are they allowed their opinions, they’re also allowed to keep or share them but then, they’d better be ready to know that I have mine too. A perfect world would be great in theory but one can die of acute politeness. Aarrgghh! Phew, rant over. And the cookie begins to crumble because Shane is getting very warm, starting from research (see why he’s my guy?) and knowing that consent is everything. When did asking and giving consent become so sexy? He does need to help Tanner be more confident about himself. You know, take his job a little further. Afterall, isn’t that what all bosses want? That was the rule when I worked in Dubai, having a can-do personality making up for a lot. Sure, Dubai was mostly racist and sure I might have committed violence, here, there and everywhere if I had remained any longer, but you get what I mean. Shane, get moving before Tanner and I give up! And then I met the tagline that will be above my bedroom door – Confront to submit! Can I steal it, Mme. Shaw, pretty please with a juicy yet crunchy Senegalese cantaloupe on top? (Cherry? Pfft, lightweight! I can do better!) Then Shane hits on why I love the Lifestyle as we are both attracted to it for the same reasons. For someone as territorial as I am who wants to be allowed to pet, pamper and adore my lover without being taken for a fool nor for granted (found out there are actually Lady, Royal and Caring Dommes. This research thing is good, ah tell you), the BDSM life more or less smacked me with truths. All that trust and power is just so heady and complete. I hope the sequels of this series will show us more of the club as its built up because my curiosity runneth over as Shane has me hollering in support. My boy knows how to get things done. Tanner’s come to the goddess moment is so close I can, (kiss the tips of my fingers) taste it. I’m in love and in lust with Tanner and spellbound as my boy Shane begins to delve underneath those perfect layers. Tanner is killing me even as I’m taking notes because Shane’s moves got moves. Then Tanner’s father began trying to kill me with a mix of annoyance and laughter. He’s so into his own world that I’m reminded that some parents are truly insane. Subs are strong. I’ve always thought they are the bravest part of the BDSM world. Being self aware to know what you are, then the courage to ask, receive and return it with compliance and submission is the sexiest thing ever and so courageous it blows me away. Shane is doing all kinds of investigation and research as he grows more fully into his role, one that he realises is so much more synonymous with his nature. Then he discovers a shop owner that needs to be employed at the club and is so sassy he should have been a drag queen. And when Tanner gives in all the way, I want to wrap him up in cotton wool and tuck him into bed. Its a good thing I trust that Shane’s got this because all my Mama Bear instincts got me hovering over Tanner. Only for me to find out that Shane has so many Alpha brothers and cousins. Goddess. Save. ME. Is it too much to ask that I want to see them shared up between Tanner’s group? You know, keeping it in the family in a totally unincestuous way? Hell, I’d even settle for just one match. Then, Austin’s fashion choices tried to strangle me even as I find myself blinking rapidly to stave off some treacherous drops when listening to the Omegas discuss their fears and worries. I don’t know how they still have hope of finding happiness in a society that tells them all that they crave is wrong because I’m not even in such a shackled situation and I’ve come close to losing hope of ever finding the one so many times. In Naija speak, I shame for masef. The erotica is so intimate that I’m feeling a little shy and reading them peeking through my fingers, even as I push Shane to give our beautiful sub what he deserves. The end so smooth and real that I found myself sighing even as I went back to all my fav parts erm…quite a few times. It’s for research, honest!

Verdict: A comfort keeper of a tale that will remind you that finding love requires more than just wishing. It requires the will to know what you deserve and the guts to snap it up when you find it!

I really tired to love this book.

I have never been able to put down a Shaw Montgomery or a MA Innes book. It was I will read this start to finish none stop. I love their books and I was so excited for them to dip their toes into MPREG but this just was blah to me. I found myself skipping pages of the story because it just was a bunch of filler and wasn’t interesting in the least. It wasn’t needed. I also got a good bit confused some times as I couldn’t figure out who was talking half the time. I really tired to love this book and even forced myself to finish it and it took a little over 2 days of off and on reading. There was not an attention grabbing moment for me and was very monotone. I give 3 star because the book was perfect from a structure and grammar point. If there is a second one I will read it just to compare. Like I said I really wanted to love this but it just fell flat :(

I wanted to explore this idea of humans classed (in a manner not used anymore, I understand) as wolf-like alpha, beta, omega types, with mpreg concepts woven through class-based love stories. I write furry fiction, and the genre has its mpreg ideas. I'm not unfamiliar with the possibilities. If this, however, is considered a good exemplar of its genre, I cannot recommend vehemently enough to steer clear of it.

This book contains some of the worst writing and editing I've ever seen (which is saying something). The prologue (for lack of a word) introduces six characters, or so I'm told at the end of the scene. Apart from knowing that they are all male, that one is the first-person narrator, and that they all have names (I think they do, at least), I cannot distinguish one from another. The conversation is rambling, attempting character introduction and world-building for the rest of the book and series, utterly failing on both counts. There is no context to base anything on, and our narrator doesn't help; he makes no description of his guests beyond a few offhand comments that don't seem related to anything at all. I get a vague sense that these males seek other males and, for various implied reasons, can't or somehow aren't allowed to. I've had enough experience of "lamenting queens" to get that much; the rest is a jumble of disconnected "reasons" and the concocting of something like a private sex club.

This is not enough to hang a story on, much less a book, much less a series. No reader can be thrown into such maelstrom and shipwreck without something to hang on to. The over-quoted Shakespearean line that Faulkner drew on for a novel isn't enough; this opening doesn't "signify[ing] nothing," it wastes precious reading time.

Please... if you're gonna write, make it relatable, which means making it have some sort of sense. In a series opener, build the world fully; in every subsequent book, repeat enough information to bring new or returning readers into the concepts needed to make the rest of each book work. The long-lived series in every genre use this technique to make each book work properly. In my own furry work, I ensure that the reader knows that he is in a parallel world in the first paragraphs of every book and story. This should be Writing 101, or even Writing 098, a survey course in reading to understand how to write. I would beg Mr. Montgomery to read more and learn more. This is what I do, which is why I attempted to read this book.

A quote oft attributed to Dorothy Parker is worth repeating here: "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."

Tanner is an odd mix of interesting and forgettable, and not in a 50/50 sort of way. The Omegaverse structure brought to us in this book was interesting. We have a typical Alpha, Omega and Beta universe structure, but that is where similarities to other Omegaverse stories ends. In Montgomery's world the Omegas have had a cultural uprising in that they don't act or want to be treated like traditional Omegas would.

For example, the standard behavior of an Omega being subservient is a thing of the past. To the extreme measure that an Omega willingly submitting is socially taboo and not talked about. I think this closely resembles a sort of feminist dilemma in society. The best way to grossly over simplify this to real life would be a woman's expectation to be an equal to a man in public, yet in private desiring to be called a dirty little slut. Not the best example, but hopefully you get the idea.

In Tanner, the Omega want to get into a Dom/Sub relationship with an Alpha and finds it difficult to achieve that goal. Alphas fear pushing Omegas too far, Omegas fear appearing weak for their desires, etc etc etc. These are the memorable parts of Tanner. Everything else is completely forgettable, the characters, the plot, whatever was laid down as a foundation for future books in the series, ALL OF IT. I couldn't tell you a single point. Oh, maybe one, Tanner repeatedly calls his best friend a "Drama Queen", which I can only tell you because it bug the ever loving shit out of me.

While I found the larger aspect of the Omegaverse interesting I won't be continuing the series.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like
‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd,
‘Save the kids' series from EM Leya,
‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or
'Liberty' from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey books and
Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times a year (most romances where you can
enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader,
maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok). It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

Omega Tanner is smart, wealthy and head over heels for his administrative assistant but he won't do anything about it as it feels like too big of a gamble. As an omega he is supposed to be family-oriented, a go-getter at work and equal in every way, not submissive as he would like to be. Alpha Shane is built like a tank, organised and passionate about making his boss's life easier. He is in love with Tanner but very careful to keep it tucked away because Tanner has never looked at Shane until secrets start coming to the surface. When everything is riding on one confession, is the risk just too much?

I loved this story with the two passionate men who were supposed to act a certain way according to modern conventions even though they wanted to be different. I loved that Shane learned everything he could in order to be and give Tanner what he needed and to become the perfect alpha for a submissive Tanner. I was relieved when The unsubtle hints from the other omegas and accidental notes in a pile of papers caused them to confess to each other. Easy to read, feel and understand it was impossible not to become involved and invested in their relationship so you felt the relief when they finally became a couple. Contains mature MM content with a BSDM-like D/s relationship with a non-shifter alpha/omega dynamic, edging, and spanking.

Different

This was a surprisingly different take on the Omegaverse. In most books, omegas are treated like lesser citizens. In this one, it's like people learned omegas can do anything they want as far as work goes but beyond that it's kinda weird. The whole society is obsessed with omega equality and not corrupting them. Its like they're all for "omega rights" but don't really care what omegas want. The only ones who seem to have the freedom to do whatever they want are betas.

It's interesting but a BDSM club seems so extreme in this society where an omega can't even walk into a sex shop and an alpha will get strange looks just for opening a door or ordering dinner for his date. Making out in public is indecent so how the heck are they going to manage a club? I guess learning the answer to that question is reason enough to keep reading.

Other than that, I liked the book and the characters were interesting. I enjoyed it more before they started having sex because from that point on most of the book was dirty talk and long detailed sex scenes. By the end, I was just skipping them. Its the only real reason I'm undecided over whether I want to keep reading the series or not.

I got this for free on Amazon a while ago and I finally got around to reading it, but I couldn't get through it. The world building is awful; nothing is explained about the omegaverse world that the author has going on. I'm assuming that it's sort of like an alternate reality and I'm just not sure about anything else because the author didn't bother to do any sort of exposition about the world that the story takes place in and I'm not, you know, a mind reader. Maybe it would be obvious for somebody who reads a lot of these types of books, but for me who hasn't read hardly any, I have no idea what's going on.

Beyond that, I'm just bored with the story. The main characters have hardly had any page time together and it's just not compelling enough to keep reading about a bunch of omegas who are just constantly complaining about society's limitations on their freedom to be who they are when the whole thing isn't really explained. Like I get they're unhappy but I don't know why I should care. I've read books by this author before and I knew that the writing would be amateurish, but this was pretty bad.

This is a fun read with a different spin on the omegaverse. In this time, there has been such a strong backlash to the historical abuse of omegas that they are protected and revered at all costs. Tanner, a rich and naturally submissive omega, wants nothing more than to find his alpha dom. Alphas have been socialized to avoid all dominant tendencies with omegas. Tanner and his friends want to build a BDSM club that omegas can join, so they can explore their submissive desires. When he accidentally clues his attractive alpha assistant, Shane, into the building project can the two also build a mutually satisfying relationship together? The reader is also introduced to the larger friend group that will play a role in later books in the series. This book is rather low-angst, naughty, playful, and full of a lot of D/s fun.

did not enjoy it for three reasons:
-i came here ffor the omega/alpha dynamic but everything was upside down, a society where the omegas can't submit to be protected... usually if i read about omegaverse it's just because I enjoy the dynamic all istincts and caveman alphas/ submitting nature of omegas...it was all big complicated for me the society rules and all this part of the story about the society opinions.

-i came here for the kink (bdsm and c...k rings and cages). There was it but it was all described like two kids who make experiments. IT could have been hotter.

-ithis book was an opening for others characters so it was a little too much of a parade of characters and in the end the story was short.

This book was mainlyyy sex to the point that I got tired of it and mostly skimmed...but I found the worldview very interesting! Usually omegas have little to no rights in the alpha-omega verse but this is the first book I've read giving a new perspective: what if omegas had a little too much rights? The societal rules are very overprotective and don't give omegas the chance to make their own decision about submission. It's just totally looked down on. I would continue the series just for this plot but the romance didn't really connect with me. I wish there was more focus on Shane and Tanner's romantic relationship more than it feeling like it was just about the sex.

OK so I think the best part about this was that Tanner seem like this big bossy businessman so when we got to actually see his role in the bedroom is quite a contrast and it made it better you know and then Shane he was just great. I liked him a lot. I’m very interested in Austin. He seems like a hell of a fun time. And wade because he seems adorable. And lastly, the whole like omega club or like I guess almost like a sex club in a way that’s so intriguing to me like I honestly want to know the progress of how they’re going to make that happen.
