Events are spiraling out of control inside Dragonwall, as Shayla’s enemies seek to turn the tables on her, and Kale finds his position as the knights’ commander challenged. When the queen asks Kale to report to a nearby village that has been raided, he jumps at the chance to get away from the politics and intrigue. Little does he realize he’s about to uncover a terrifying secret that may change the course of history…
Meanwhile, the Iron Horse makes a surprise stop when Socrates and his team discover a train wreck filled with the mummified remains of an ancient crew. While studying the site, they make another unexpected discovery: The crater beyond Dragonwall is home to a previously unknown civilization; a race of humans living in a city of pyramids and possessing strange, powerful new technologies.
The crew’s excitement is soon tempered by the realization that these timid farmers are not just shy of strangers… they are in fact slaves. Worse yet, their overseers are a race of creatures unlike any the crew have previously encountered. They are dangerous. They are powerful. And they are legion.
Clockwork Legion is Book 4 of Sedgwick's "Iron Horse" series, a follow-up to the best-selling steampunk series "The Tinkerer's Daughter."

I took a break and they were waiting for my return
I re-read this before going on to the next book. Sort of like taking time to visit with friends. Caught some things I missed last time. There were twists I enjoyed, and turns I almost expected. It was good to be here for a while. The smile at the end was most welcome and most unexpected. And now on to new territory. How will it all come together. Decisions! -read now and be groggy for work tomorrow, - save it for Sunday at the pool.
I like the story, the interweaving of steampunk, apocalyptic civilization, the dwarven, elven, hobbit-like characters, and the story itself, i.e. Zombies driven by Starfall. Interested to see what he does with book 5, since he's set up at least 4 different story lines to follow.
great book and a new set of problems for the characters on the iron horse. I love how they work together to figure out the new set of problems and figure out how to solve the problems and be able to move along the train to new adventures.
I love this series and I hope it's not the end. With the unexpected ending there has to be more, bring it on! There are too many changes with loose ends. I want to know what happens next. NEXT with the Iron Horse, NEXT Kale, NEXT with Breeze and Tinker. What brings them to light in this series? NEXT, I want to know what HAPPENES!!! Thanks once again for writing a story that I don't want to put down. Lynn
The series is amazing, the level of detail and intrigue never ends. Surprise, cliff hanger style ending. Socrates is the one character that really surprises and amazes me the most
