A drifter looking for direction. A beautiful temptress with an offer. Will lady luck bring Ben fortune, or a bullet to the back of the head?

Harvey “Ben” Bennett is lost, wandering, looking for his purpose. But a cryptic call from an old friend drags him to Denver and introduces him to a mysterious woman with a proposal. It’s one he can’t refuse, but it also puts him in the line of fire from a group of dangerous hitmen.

Running for his life, Ben now sees danger everywhere he looks. He doesn’t know who to trust, and now the people after him have involved his family, as well. Soon enough, he realizes the offer he couldn’t refuse might turn out to be one he won’t survive...

The Lethal Bones is the third book in the gripping Harvey Bennett prequel thriller trilogy. If you like complex heroes, shocking surprises, and edge-of-your-seat action, you’ll love Jim Heskett and Nick Thacker’s tale of electrifying redemption.

It's absolutely dreadful - the kind of book that makes you think that the writer, Nick Thacker, has completely lost the plot.
I've already read the first two prequels to the 'Harvey Bennett' series, so I thought the third book would at least continue on the established storyline. But, no!
After a so-so start it goes completely barking mad.
Harvey 'Ben' Bennett is still trying to find himself, without much success.
An old friend says there is someone who knows more than she should about him and would like to meet.
He meets her, delivers a package she has given him and the receiver is shot dead in front of him. The killer, for reasons which are never explained, doesn't even try to shoot him too.
The killer, by the way, is someone with several hundred notches on his gun, a relentless hunter, a member of a highly organised group of assassins ... I suspect he has a customised number plate on his car - IKILPEPLE.
And it just goes downhill from there.
I read it to the halfway point before I decided that I could care less.
The one thing that "The Lethal Bones" taught me is that I will not read the "Harvey Bennett" series.
I wrote at the start that it is dreadful - I was wrong, it is worse than that.
* I don't give a 1 Star review lightly - most of the time they go to author who can't, and shouldn't, write, but sometimes an author who is capable of much better comes up with a real stinker - "The Lethal Bones" is just that!

The Lethal Bones - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Ember Clarke (not her real name apparently), is revealed to have a very unusual career as we learn early in the exceptional story from the outstanding Nick Thacker, The Lethal Bones, Book 3 in his wonderful Harvey Bennett Prequels series.

So where does Harvey 'Ben' Bennett come into this adventure of his lifetime series, that bears his name and not hers at all?
What's the link between Ember, Harvey, some bear's teeth and a box of chocolates?
What happens at the Mile High Stadium that takes Ben down a very strange path?

Introducing Ember Clarke and the DAC into Ben's overshadowed life, The Lethal Bones (a peculiar title for a magnificent revenge-thriller), will completely take your mind away from the Covid-19 pandemic and your Lockdown Blues for a few blissfully exciting hours.

Get your copy of Nick Thacker's The Lethal Bones today, then why not try his other great books too?
They're all 5-star winners that I can highly recommend!

This third Harvey Bennett prequel finds Ben bumming around the western U.S. trying to find himself when he finally answers a call from Lucas, his boyhood best friend. Lucas convinces him to travel to Denver and at that point the game is afoot. This third episode has more extreme action than either of the two preceding episodes and further solidifies Ben’s development into the character of the later Harvey Bennett thrillers.

What have you gotten yourself into Ben?

Having already read Ember's intro book I was familiar with her. There are some nice twists and turns in the book and a fair amount of action and suspense. If you haven't read any on Jim's and Nick's books before, brace yourself, if you have then you already know to do that.

Harvey "Ben" Bennett is just an average guy who is on sabbatical from his duties as a park ranger. He's pretty much just trying to find himself. He's middle-aged, rather plain as far as looks go, and a bit of an introvert. He's likeable, but he's also a bit too...well, I wouldn't say he's naive. Maybe the word I'm looking for is "unsuspecting" or even "trusting". He seems to be the type that you would walk by, say hello, and not really give him much thought afterward.

But still waters run deep. He's not as threatening as say Layne Parrish or Micah Reed, if I may throw those two into this, but he's got a strong sense of loyalty to his family even though he hasn't seen them in awhile, and will go to extremes to protect them. I'm not sure how Ember Clarke figured he'd make a good recruit for her Assassins Club. But the truth of the matter is, I've read just a couple of books with him as a main character (this being the second) and maybe I don't know him well enough. What I've learned about him so far, I like.

An Assassins Club is a new concept for me. This club has branches, rules, and a governing body. I guess there is honor among killers. I had no idea. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that everybody abides by the rules, most of the time. It made for an interesting read.

Ben is lured to Denver by a friend and things quickly go to crap. He finds himself in the middle of a potential coup that he had nothing to do with, but with the threat to his brother, he couldn't walk away. He's outgunned, outsmarted, and in way over his head.

The story is firing on all cylinders with action, intrigue, and a big old twist that I did not see coming. There are a couple of questions that were left unanswered and when that happens, it makes me crazy. Did Ben get his wallet back and did Zach go to work for Firedrake?

A book has to be picture perfect to get a five-star review from me and there were a couple of instances of inconsistent capitalization (uncle Jerry and then Uncle Jerry), and a couple of other little things that didn't affect the reading experience.

Oh, one more thing. I didn't like Dalton. He was the perfect antagonist, but I had to laugh and agree with him when he thought sushi is gross and his impatience with trying to be cultured when eating with chopsticks. "Just pick up the damned piece of food and eat it." I got a kick out of that part.

Overall, this is a great book. It was fast-paced, captivating, and I had it read in a day.

Harvey Bennett is roaming through the mid-west, on an extended sabbatical. Drifting. Aimless. Looking for anything to bring meaning to his life. I might have embellished but only a little.

Out of the blue, Harvey gets a call from his old pal Lucas, encouraging him to come to Denver to see something. Trying to avoid trouble (ha!), Harvey consents. Upon arrival, Lucas takes Harvey to see... someone actually, who has something for Harvey to see. Deliver a package for me, she says. What could go wrong?

Let's just say, nothing goes right, and Harvey is running for his life, drawn into the midst of things he knows nothing about, secret orders, and other things too spoilery to share.

I've read the first five Harvey Bennett Thriller books, working on the sixth. How much he has grown from these prequel stories to his portrayal in the thriller levels is tremendous. Going back in time, it's easier to plant seeds that you know how they will bear fruit, and it is evident here of these things developing though not yet mature in Harvey (he's still developing in the thrillers). And still, there are surprises. Harvey Bennett practically leaps off the page (okay, screen).

The first few chapters of the book seem split fairly evenly between the two authors (Nick Thacker & Jim Heskett, in case you're wondering). I believe I have fairly good guesses as to the split. By the fifth chapter, though, I could not tell you who did what. The individual styles blended into a new style, reminiscent of each but not just shoe-horned into place.

I wish that I could have read it faster, as it was so engrossing that I hated to put it down. And I wish I could have read it slower, to revel in the story, savor it more fully, to get a greater enjoyment from it. Alas, I am but a hack reader, and took to the not-at-all-unenjoyable task as I could. Well worth the time and effort!

I highly recommend this book. It helps to have read the previous prequel books but these are in no way required.

The Lethal Bones, written by accomplished Authors, Nick Thacker, and Jim Heskett, certainly evoked a lot of emotions in this reader for sure...not the least of which was: breath holding, skin chills up the spine, tension laced mystery and intrigue, anxious toe tapping, edge of your seat thrills, mind numbing action, great and well developed characters, great and well laid out plot, and EVEN after ALL of that...still does not begin to cover it all for The Lethal Bones!
Main characters Harvey Bennett (Ben), and Ember Clarke, takes the reader on a journey to end all journeys.
While Ben is out rambling about aimlessly, trying to “find himself”, he receives a call from his friend Lucas, and Lucas convinces him to come see him, because he has something he wants Ben “to see”. Enticed Ben goes, gets introduced to Ember Clarke, and the game is afoot from that point forward.
Main characters Harvey Bennett (Ben), and Ember Clarke, takes the reader on a read ride into a world, certainly like no other Ben has ever seen, nor has the reader, and is a prequel to the Six Assassins Series coming in 2020, and WHAT A GREAT FICTION BOOK! NO SPOILERS.
The Lethal Bones is a MUST READ, and I HIGHLY recommend The Lethal Bones by Nick Thacker and Jim Heskett!! When these two GREAT AUTHORS get together to write...THEY REALLY DELIVER!! ENJOY!!!

I received an ARC from the author (Jim Heskett) at my request and this is my honest opinion. Having just started my reading of the Harvey Bennet series was, I think, a bit of a good thing for me. From some of the other reviews I read, having a preconceived notion of who/how Ben was would have been a bit of a disadvantage. So, all good for me. I loved the character of Ben and I can't wait to see what Mr. Heskett and Mr. Thacker have planned for him next. I also will be checking out the other books in the Harvey Bennet series. This taste has whet my appetite for more!
One of the disadvantages of reading a collaboration between multiple authors is that you don't know whom to blame for the parts of the story you didn't like. Luckily for me, I didn't have to deal with that dilemma because there weren't any parts that I didn't like. Granted, the action and plot are a little (?) far-fetched, but that's why I read action/thriller novels, to escape the norm. The action here starts at the very beginning and very rarely lets up. The authors do allow Ben to catch his breath for a minute but then they throw him right back into the fire. There is a good bit of suspense, not just shoot-em-up, blow-em-up action, and plenty of twists and turns. I am definitely looking forward to spending more time in Harvey Bennet's world and I recommend you do also.

The Lethal Bones is a prequel to the Harvey Bennett Thrillers by Nick Thacker. In this book, Nick has a co-writer, Jim Heskett. The Harvey Bennet Thrillers are adventure stories

This story introduces us to Harvey “Ben” Bennett’s background. At the start of the story, Ben is racketing around the middle of the country with no plans, no home, and nothing much going on. He receives a call from an old friend, Lucas, and ends up heading to Denver.

In Denver, Ben gets embroiled in a struggle between two underground groups. He is enticed to assist by a fairy tale about bear’s teeth told to him by Ember, a beautiful member of one of the groups. Within a few days, Ben witnesses a murder, goes to a football game, rescues a damsel in distress, causes a big explosion, and loses his best friend. He's also invited to join the group he was assisting.

Most of the story is a mad rush from one crisis to another. Toward the end of the story, he does learn something about himself.

The story is well written and speeds along. I didn’t particularly care for this setting for Ben, a character I really like. However, he did stay true to himself throughout the story. Harvey Bennett is a good guy and that satisfies my soul.

This is a men’s adventure novel with a good character and a beautiful woman. Adults and young adults will probably enjoy this novel very much.

Harvey “Ben” Bennet is taking a sabbatical from his job as a Rocky Mountain forest ranger and is living in the forests away from most people. He gets a request from his friend to go to a Denver to discuss a request for assistance from a former female acquaintance. Ben is reluctant but gets involved any way. This gets him involved with an organization of assassins that have a complex organization with a plethora of rules and sects. Ben gets dragged into killing that occur in rapid succession. While the story is full of action and thrilling escapes, i couldn’t buy the assassins organization or the unexplained skills of Ben’s accomplice. The chief antagonist was pretty much a cardboard character. A scene involving Ben’s family seemed an artificial addition just to hint at a future series. Ben is a good character but this didn’t add much to him as a maturing character. While this is an exciting read, it pretty much left me disappointed unlike other stories in the series.

Note: I received this book as a review copy and am freely providing this unbiased review.

This was a good story, one of three. You need not have read the previous two to enjoy this book. It is a stand alone tale that takes us on another Harvey "Ben" Bennett adventure.

Ben is bored and trying to find himself. He realizes his angst at being lost and he finds himself getting into scuffles because of it...fights with truckers for one instance. So, when an old friend calls him up and says a mysterious woman wants to meet him and has something to show him, he says why not?

What he doesn't know is the woman is hiding a lot more than just a little mystery from him. It's a different way of life. Soon he finds himself in situations he never would have dreamed. He's being shot at and stabbed and seeing people die. But, he is protecting himself and he has pretty good instincts about it, too.

This is where we see what Ben is made of. What Ben can and will become. How special he is. This prequel shows just what others see in him that he doesn't see in himself. And these skills will come in handy sometime in his future.

What a Great Read - Harvey Bennett - Stunning Backstory Jigsaw Puzzle #3

This third Harvey Bennett prequel gives the reader another piece of the complicated personal puzzle that makes up our beloved "Ben". I was expecting to be eased gently into the story, but it took off at breakneck speed and we were off! I really like the way the story was woven with tidbits about his family and the early tragedy in his life. No clue from page to page what was going to happen next, but it was definitely filled with surprise after surprise.

I really enjoy reading these backstory books, it helps filling in the blanks about Ben's life before the awesome Harvey Bennett Thriller Series (read all 7, looking forward to #8). This book reminded me more of the Gareth Red adventures than the earlier Ben stories.

Been an admirer of Jim Heskett also for some time - excellent collaboration between these two amazing authors - More books please Guys! Wish I could give you 6 Stars!

Harvey (Ben) Bennett has been on sabbatical from his parks job since the incident in Rocky Mountain National Park so when an old friend calls to tell him he needs to come to Denver to meet a woman, he agrees, and sets in motion a series of events that will leave people dead and change lives forever.
The Lethal Bones is exactly the kind of edge of your seat thriller I've come to expect of Jim Heskett/ Nick Thacker. There are fire fights and a body count that would make many writers cringe, a kick-ass lady assassin, a sinister plot to take over a decades old shadow organization and, of course, our hero, Ben caught right in the middle of it all.
I loved the heart stopping intensity and the non-stop surprises that kept me up late to find out how this one ended.

The Lethal Bones (Harvey Bennett Prequels Book 3) Kindle Edition, my seventeenth read from author Nick Thacker and the third Harvey Bennett Prequel co-written with Jim Heskett. What do you get when you get 2 very good writers collaborating? A very good read! The problem with writing a successful book is amplified in a successful series, the reader's expectations are that this book will be even better than the last. When I reviewed earlier Thacker books I commented that his writings were reminiscent of James Rollins. This is a good book, that you can't wait to turn the next page and read more. Harvey Bennett is a park ranger on sabbatical who is contacted suddenly by an old friend which leads him to a world he never knew existed. A life and death adventure ensues involving cloak and Dagger assassins. While the ease at which the public and law enforcement is able to be manipulated is scary, it is an exciting roller coaster of thrilling proportions. Will Ben (Harvey) be able get out without more innocents dying?

Ben always seems to find trouble. Especially when he's not looking for it!

This time, trouble comes in the form of Ember. She's been searching for him, and the results when she finds him are not what she's expecting.

The two of them end up running for their lives throughout the book. They always seem to be a step behind.

Loved the energy and suspense. I'm looking forward to reading about Ember. She's seriously awesome.

Great collaboration between Jim and Nick. I'm certainly going to check out some of Jim's books. I'm already a fan of Nick's!

This story is different from the other stories about Harvey Bennett. The story starts out with him in a Truck Stop and while there he receives a call to come to Denver by one of his friends.

The action that occurs once he gets to Denver will keep your interest.

The characters in the story were well done and if you enjoy stories about Ben, then you must read this one. It is a definite winner and definitely deserves 5 stars. Pick it up, you won't be sorry.

I Enjoyed this book... the characters are engaging and I wanted to keep turning the pages all the way from beginning to end.

Harvey (Ben) gets thrown in at the deep end into something that he never sees coming with some pretty disastrous repercussions. Looking forwards to where his characterise in future.

I received this book for free as I am on ‘the street team’ for Nick Thacker. Thank you.. I truly enjoyed this book!

This was my first Harvey Bennett book but it definitely will not be my last.

Full of action from the beginning it is a great page turner. The authors take you into a world few live to tell about. It begs the question, how did they research for this story?

If you like action, suspense, twists and turns then this book must go on your read list!

Jim & Nick have once again produced a brilliant book. That draws you into the story and makes you feel part of the action. Sitting on the edge of your seat as they somehow get out of their desperate situations. Ember does it even while shot! It was a storyline that you didn't want to finish. Superb book Jim & Nick

Edge of the Seat Thriller

Another Harvey Bennett adventure thriller. It starts off at full speed and gets even better. The unusual way Ben gets from being a Park Ranger to being involved with a group of assassins was convoluted but easy to follow. I recommend it, particularly to Harvey Bennett fans.

It isn’t my favorite Harvey Bennett novel, but it is a good action novel. Ember is a somewhat compelling character and there will be more of her to come. I haven’t finished the last Mason Dixon novel. This one made me want to dip back into that world. It is good to see Ben develop more of his skills.
