With the identity of Death Gun returning Kirito's memories back to Aincard we see a scene where a crew of top tier adventurers worked together to put an end to the PvP guild Laughing Coffin (who were responsible for so many real life murders thanks to their shenanigans.) Now Kirito has to shake off his past and get his head back in the game because Death Gun is still on the hunt and his victims die for real even though the game would normally prevent that.
Now joining forces with his ally/rival Sinon, Kirito prepares to return to a life or death struggle as Death Gun competes in the free for all event Bullet of Bullets so he can "handle" the strongest of players and Kirito is on the hit list. We also get a bit of back story of how Sinon became who she is and we get to see her struggling with her feelings for harem king Kirito even though she was furious to find out his unusually feminine looking avatar was actually a guy. :)
Probably my fav moment in the book is the chase scene with Kirito and Sinon on a motorcycle while Death Gun gives chase on a mechanical horse. Shaken by the similarities of Death Gun and Sinon's own past she is having trouble pulling her trigger and Kirito reaches back and offers her support as he also makes it so the bike no longer shakes in an epic way. Action awaits all who read this volume so find your own favorite scenes. :)
This volume of Phantom Bullet was probably my favorite so far, perhaps unfortunately because it has taken an unofficial hiatus for two years. The author said there's only one volume remaining, and she is also going to be working on the Alicization arc (which is also coming along somewhat slowly) so who knows what's happening. But I can't wait to see the conclusion to Phantom Bullet. I didn't think I would enjoy this so much but I did. I didn't think girly Kirito would excite me so much, but he did. I just love him! He's great, he's so enthralling and I can see how Sinon could fall in love with him (if she does). I think I probably would too. That feminine boy with a strong and beautiful heart, both gentle and caring yet sometimes hard and cold... Ah, I would almost certainly fall in love with Kirito. So many little things remind me of my old boyfriend and myself. So many of these things. Especially the thing about them being partners and someone having the strength to do something because they know the other will be there to back them up if they need the support. One always coming through for the other, even if things seem dark and hopeless. Reaching in and pulling the other out of the depths of whatever psychosis they've found themselves in. The more I read Phantom Bullet, the more I feel as though I am Sinon while reading, and the more Kirito looks like my old bf. It's a comfort to me, and it grounds me a little bit to my own emotions when I had been feeling emotionless or completely depressed and hopeless. This was fun, I hope to see the final volume soon. I feel that there is so much more I need to say, but I'd rather not ramble at the moment. P.S. Dem booty contours, dem booty crack shots. P.P.S. I like the emergence of Death Gun being a former Laughing Coffin high up guild member in SAO to be interesting and I like that it really ties the two arcs together. I also liked the little sections between chapters which gave extra insight into certain details, such as telling us Kirito counted Kuradeel as one of the members of Laughing Coffin that he murdered yet no longer remembered their name nor face because he tried to forget what sins he had committed. Well, a lot of this was a part of the previous chapter too. The insightful section just cleared up a bit of any fuzzy details left that made things feel forced without proper information given. I'm excited to see who Death Gun is. His motives are obvious, but his identity and Kirito's reactions are what has me interested. Oh, and also, Klein's house in ALO is THE SHIT. I WANT A HOUSE LIKE THAT. And I think it's so cute that him, Asuna, Yui, Suguha, Silica, and Lisbeth all meet up in that world. It's so cute. I guess they feel most comfortable in their fantasy forms with Yui who cannot exist in our world. I love the very concept of all that. I wonder if it allows their bodies to rest too, or if they're too mentally active for their body to rest?
*announcer voice* Laaaddieeess aaaaand Gentlemeeeeeeennn let the Bullet of Bullets begiiiiiiinnnnn!
Kirito, being Kirito, will be using his lightsaber....I mean....sword. As you can see from the GIF ;)
So, the prelims are over and the Bullet of Bullets is about to kick off. We open the volume with some more information about Laughing Coffin and what went down with them in SAO, it's actually quite chilling. So we know who Death Gun is....or at least partially as we still don't have an actual name. I've been eagerly awaiting this volume, as unlike the anime, it provides more insight and thoughts from the characters and is giving this story arc a new dimension.
We're introduced to the arena with quite a lot of detail, which was nice, and then it's all action and tactics and it's like that for the entirety of the volume, with some little breaks as we check in with Asuna and the others. While Kirito is teaming up with Sinon to take down Death Gun so that they can have the rematch she wants so much, Asuna wants answers after she and Klein realise who Death Gun is.
The checkpoints provide lots of interesting information both on the settings and the guns the characters use which is some interesting background information to have as you're reading and helps to bring the setting and game alive! The art, I have to say, is very close to the art from the anime, so the characters are very familiar and it's very well drawn. Although there's a fair bit of fan service and I'm still getting used to the bullet prediction lines!
Phantom Bullet's third volume is fast paced and we get left wanting more as the volume comes to an end with one final, chilling visual. Hopefully we won't have to wait long for volume four, which I *think* is the last volume in this story arc if I remember the anime correctly!
So they still don't know who Death Gun is, he has killed again, he has a super high stealth ability, and has now petrified Sinon because she thinks he is from her past.
Kirito killed 3 Laughing Coffin players in SAO. But he wasn't the only player that survived that raid. Does Death Gun think that Sinon is Asuna's avatar?

Sooooooo, why no volume four? The light novel is finished (and then some). The anime story is finished. Pretty sure there’s other manga series for the other story arcs so why? Is it to mess with my OCD? It’s to mess with my OCD, isn’t it? .....dang it >.<
Still very nostalgic to read ofc, but feel like I'm on my way to newer stories since I haven't seen all the anime released, the mystery and fights I'm this is a lot of fun to read and I can't wait to read the last volume.
