My hot secretary used me to push her ex away.
It backfired.

But let me back up a little…

She asked me to be her fake fiancé.
Me… the most powerful man in the city.
I should’ve said no.
I shouldn’t have cared about what she wanted.
But her sweet curves didn’t let me be that indifferent.
Making her ex jealous was one thing.
Showing her off to my own family was another.
My snooty folks hated her.
And that brought us closer.
It made this fake arrangement a little more real.
Very real.
And it also made working with her awkward.
Very awkward.
But the worst part was when she disappeared, and then showed up with a baby bump.

I was about to be a father.
And I was determined to make my former fake fiancée…my wife.

This my first book by the author and I can promise it won’t be my last. It was a fantastic read from start to finish and Quinn and Nicholas were fab main characters. I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced copy of this book.

Quinn has been working with Nicholas for the past three years and is well aware of his playboy reputation. And now it seems he has put her in the challenge category with his flirting, she has never really been fond of him but things around the office seem to be changing especially him but can she trust this new version of her boss or is it all for show?

Nicholas has always been intrigued by his secretary Quinn but work is work and he has had plenty of fun outside the office but Quinn is the one he wants but with the walls she’s erected against him will he even be able to get close to the woman wants or has his behaviour destroyed any chance he may have had?

Really loved the characters in this book, Quinn was one of my favourite for a while. She was believable in every way. A sweet office romance with lots of heat. Recommended read and I’m looking forward to reading more on the near future. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I didn't hate it but I felt that the book just went on way too long. That and I was never really pulled into the book. The chemistry never really felt real and the drama they had to go through felt forced. Of course, that's just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. :)

This story wasn’t too bad it just had a couple tropes in it that I’m not a fan of. Nick is a big manwhore for years while the h works for him. She knows all about his exploits, is faced with a lot of his women. I really like the h to be the main focus once the two meet. I also would have preferred for their first time for Quinn not be drunk or both been. Nick didn’t come off very good sleeping with someone he really cares about when their intoxicated.
I understood Quinn’s hesitancy, having witnessed his playboy ways it was hard for her to comprehend that his actions were genuine. She was nervous and unsure. Nick really did see her in a new light and was kind of ashamed of his past. He wanted and loved Quinn like no other and he wanted to prove to her that he was changed. I understood both of their feelings about her being pregnant. I understood why Quinn took so long to tell him and I understood why he was upset. They really needed to sit down and have a good heart to heart. I still enjoyed most of the story even though it had some tropes I really dislike.

Safety
No ow drama, h’s ex wants to get back together. He keeps texting and showing up places. He eventually shows up to her apartment with a gun trying to get her back. H has slept around a lot. He is celibate for a few months since he discovered his feelings for the h, h was last with her ex. No abuse.

The blurb says about the heroine disappearing and then having a baby bump, neither were really true. The story was dragged out and I was bored and annoyed with the pair of them by the end. Also it was riddled with grammatical errors and mistakes which I can't abide. Not a great book for me.

Meh. I guess it wasn't bad, but this book was just plain mediocre, and I wish I could say something more positive.

Maybe it's because I'm so tired of the angst of "I need to tell him I'm pregnant!" that ate up at least half of the book. Even the well-overused gimmick of the psychotic ex-boyfriend couldn't detract from this overall, plain boredom I had while reading this book. I almost decided to make it one of my rare DNF and not because it was very poorly written. It just was boring. The sex scenes were predictable. I just skimmed through them, looking for any dialogue other than saying how good the sex was.

The main characters — Nicolas and Quinn — ALMOST made me sympathetic, but not quite. I had been thinking on how I would write one of these novels involving the heroine discovering she was pregnant and had to decide how she would tell him. How would I make the story interesting and different without lapsing in the usual overused plot templates for this kind of story. I was thinking of making it a slice of life tale... without the angst, of course. I mean, Nicholas could drop her like a hot potato or absorb her into his life (and lifestyle) so that Quinn didn't have to worry about funds, etc. I would have dropped the George the Ex-Boyfriend subplot because it's been overused by too many unimaginative authors, and probably focused in on his family who thinks that Quinn is a gold digger and Nicholas is just slumming. But without falling for the usual templated subplots for that storyline. See how I was distracted? If it had been a more original story, I wouldn't be spending my time seeing how far into this book I was or contemplating how I would have written it. I would have made Quinn and Nicholas far more compelling characters.

There was more than the usual editing issues including the wrong words, missing words, bad grammar... I think there had been an editor present, but so any errors were missed. And the usual wrong use of the word "past" and "it's". A good editor would have encouraged the writer to try something fresh and original... I would have hoped. I also would had hoped the writer would had been open to the idea of change. However, I get this feeling that the writer was not open to make sweeping changes for the sake of a better story rather than conclude just to publish the story and get it out into the public because it would be waste of her time going back and rewriting it as she should had. Bloody hell! That is not being a committed writer! No one can hammer out THE PERFECT novel, but at least know when a story is ready for publication and when it's best to go back to the drawing board and start all over. This is why I can't stand all these deadlines amateur indie writers set for themselves. Real writing isn't like that. When you're producing books like an assembly line, there is something wrong here. Usually inspiration is missing, and that will always be noticed by the readership.

There were some glaring researching errors. First of all, the in-office urine pregnancy tests are very sensitive AND accurate for pregnancies as early as 4-6 weeks, depending on the woman, of course. (Some have even delivered a baby without having a single positive pregnancy test any time throughout gestation.) You don't need to wait a few days for even the blood test!

In terms of world-crafting, I had NO CLUE where this story took place other than the United States. It could be LA, it could be NYC, it could be Miami. I didn't like how this writer avoided so much descriptive necessities. Even in the epilogue, other than being at the beach, I STILL had no clue where they were. What happened? By not doing so only lessens any attempt to enrich this story. I'm glad we had some idea of what kind of business Nicholas ran, but even that description was anemic in details.

So I have it two-point-five stars. Sorry, but I was too bored to devote much attention to this story. I'm glad I read it via KU rather than buying it. I would hope this author normally writes better than this. I can't even recommend to others to take some time to read it. Now I need to find a book I really liked and wash my brain cells well because I need something better to endure COVID-19 quarantine.

Too much miscommunication

Too much back and forth. She seduces him, then regrets it. He is too wishy-washy. She gets morning sickness and tells him she caught something, then grabs him, sticks her tongue in his mouth and seduces him again. Both wake up regretting it again. In fact, she had just wanted to forget her troubles - using him again. Never used a condom - what about ALL those other women he had sex with? Why is it the h is never disgusted about being with a manwhore or worried about STDs?

It won't take you long to get drawn into Quinn and Nicholas's story. He's her boss and a major flirt/playboy and she finds him hard to like at times. Three years of working for him and the next thing you know they're fake engaged. Of course he's a billionaire and his family thinks she's not good enough for him. He's always been attracted to her. This book moved too slow for me and seemed disjointed at times. Their chemistry even seemed off most of the time. I read a free advance copy via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to write a review.

* New to me author

Baby Bump is a boss/secretary romance story. Although it is a little different then what you would normally read. This time the boss- Nicholas, is totally in love/lust with his secretary Quinn. But Quinn is not feeling the same at all.

That would be why I took a star away. At the beginning of this book, it is almost as if Nicholas is kind of stocker(y) and it put me off of his character. I tried really hard to connect with Quinn but she didn't want anything to do with Nicholas until she needed his help. Then it was like oh here he is. DUH. So there went the other star.

This book wasn't horrible I just couldn't find a connection with the characters. The story was interesting just not to my liking.

The heroine's ex turns into a stalker/psycho-ish and needed a punch or two.

Learning to Trust and Love

Handsome French business man, Nicholas Dubois, with his brilliant blue eyes and dark hair, is accustomed to beautiful women fawning on him. He is a triple threat to the libido of most women—he is handsome, rich and possesses a detectable French accent that can bring a woman to her knees—literally. Unfortunately, the one woman he wants to impress, to woo, his secretary, Quinn Butler, seems impervious to the pheromones that other women can’t ignore.

Lovely, sweet, petite Quinn with her strawberry blonde curls and hazel eyes which view the world from behind her glasses, could never pull off a tiny cocktail dress that so many of her boss’ dates tend to wear, but as far as Nicholas is concerned, she attracts him as no other woman does. She doesn’t want his power, wealth or body, but he spends his nights dreaming of loving Quinn and he has determined that he must win Quinn’s heart and body. So, he must change his playboy ways in how he relates to her. He must curb his practiced approach of flattery of the outer woman—his compliments and chatting her up—and connect with the mind and heart that resides inside to lovely form that he has come to realize is his kryptonite.

But, Nicholas is facing forces of unfairness that want to challenge the very idea of Nicholas and Quinn as a couple. Nicholas is not the only man who finds sweet, smart Quinn attractive and desirable. Currently, Quinn’s ex, George McMaran, whom she met casually when he was accompanying his 3 sisters to a fashion expo which had seemed so sweet, has quickly morphed from suitor to stalker. What she had originally seen as his attentiveness expressed through frequent texts and calls soon became a means of tracking her every move and location until Quinn said “enough” and ended—or tried to end—the relationship. And now, the constant texts and calls have begun again.

And, in addition to a confronting Quinn’s thwarted and frustrated ex-boyfriend, Nicholas must also deal with the snobbery and rejection of sweet Quinn by individuals who should stand strong and support his choice of a companion—his own family who have come from France to celebrate at his home their joy and approval of his brother’s engagement. But, when Nicholas presents Quinn as his fiancée, they are rude and demeaning to his sweet Quinn.

And, Nicholas must confront Quinn herself who struggles to establish and maintain an appropriate distance between the continental CEO, lacking the confidence in her own worth and desirability in Nicholas’ world.

Miley Maine delivers a romantic tale designed to keep the reader entertained and entangled in the fates of Quinn and Nicholas as they learn to trust and love. With an engaging story, passionate moments, growing love and unsettled past betrayals weaving into the lives and love of Quinn and Nicholas, the author offers the reader a great romantic tale of changing emotions with echoes of the past.

Good, but h had a bit too prolonged angst for me

I enjoyed this book, but the h is the one holding back more than the H in this one, so it was a bit different and unfortunately i didn't connect to it as much. I also found several wordings and factual things that didn't make sense - she lives in NY and went to the "chemist" for vitamins? H lives in a mansion w a manicured lawn and fountains 10 min away from her apartment in Manhattan? And how if she's poor does she have a car to drive anywhere if she lives in the city? And, although every author does it, there is zero possibility a French emigre with zero money from his parents could start his company from nothing and become a Billionaire in seven years. And he's at one point the richest man in Manhattan and then the richest man in NY State -- I agree he would have to be a blionaire to do so, but a billionaire this famous wouldn't have security guards? I just wish authors would get it out of their head that every modern day rich guy has to be a billionaire and has to live in NYC. And if you base your book in NYC, go stay with new Yorkers in NYC to get a better grasp on how ppl live up there. This was a 6.5/10 sex -o-meter. Usually I score books lower bc the hs get eaten out a million times but the guy gets no oral, but here the guy got oral and she got nothin. That doesn't even jive w the story that he's the one who worships her. Finally, it is unrealistic that any "Playboy" would not at least consider the fact that they are not using a condom (although first time being tipsy can be excused) and neither has stated whether they are tested clean or not and what birth control method they are using. A French dude would definitely at least care about birth control. ... This review, though is overly harsh for the pleasant experience I had reading the book. It was a nice read and I am going to read more of her work, this was more of a critique to the many modern day romance novelists who include many of the same factual inconsistencies. I loved that she didn't translate the French phrasing tho!

So, hmmm, it was a decent book but it needs some work. I liked the overall concept and the blurb drew me in. It didn’t quite go that way when I settled down to read it. Nicholas was Quinn’s boss and a former player. Very recently former. It irked me a little that after 3 years working for him, he only just recent noticed her. I felt like there should have been some instantaneous reaction to her but it was pushed away because she’s his secretary and he wasn’t ready for that yet. The set up for her ex harassing her and then him stepping in went fine. They spent more time together but even then I didn’t feel the passion that I wanted. I think the biggest turn off for me was when the ex confronted him and her turned into a wuss. This is romance, yes it’s pretend characters, but we want a strong hero. One that will protect us when we are threatened. That totally turned me off of Nicholas. Then there’s the sex scenes. They supposedly are quick because the passion is there but I didn’t feel that. It goes from 0 to 60 and the. They’re done. There’s no foreplay, no other moves. That bugged me as well. I liked that he was supportive when he found out about the baby but it wasn’t quite like the blurb stated. She didn’t really disappear and show up with a bump. Even with the situation in the book, she would have to have been much farther along. Also, you don’t get a normal stomach ultrasound that early. It has to be transvaginal. The ending kind of fell flat for me before the epilogue. Then it’s 3 years later. THREE YEARS??? He still hasn’t moved forward? It took that long? Did they move in together? Baby at the office? How did any of that work out? It was lacking details and again fell flat for me. It had a great concept but it lacked details and definition. It lacked that spark.

I don’t think I’m spoiling anything since the whole blurb is about them hooking up, getting pregnant, trying to figure it out.
The story was good, unfortunately there’s a serious need of an editor. Completely wrong words were used multiple times, extra words in places, so many problems with correct tense of words and way overuse of comas! But what bothered me more than that was everything around the pregnancy. I wish authors wouldn’t use it if they can’t get any of the basic details right. I feel like this author may not be American because of a few words and phrases that were used so maybe there’s a bit of difference in how things are done but I was left frustrated too many times at the ridiculousness of the whole situation.
First, who goes to the dr after one morning of throwing up?! It’s usually a stomach bug that will pass so unless you’re dehydrated why would you drag yourself out of the house to see a dr that probably won’t do anything? Then to have a dr who briefly questions pregnancy and then does blood work...I’m left scratching my head about the whole thing and I would never returned to a dr like that! There weren’t many more details other than she obviously was confused about the timing and how far along she was but then suddenly went for a sonogram without seeing a dr first let alone the fact that your dr is the one that performs or schedules your ultrasound only after confirming pregnancy and how far along. These are probably minor errors to some readers but to me it throws me out of the story every time something unrealistic happens. It bothers me that a woman doesn’t know the basics or take the time to do a few minutes of research before writing about it. Other than that the characters were way too in their heads most of the time making it really drag.

Every now and then I enjoy a good romance book. I love it when the storyline is really strong and the romance is not the only thing carrying the weight of the plot. In the case of “Baby Bump” the story had potential to be really good but the author concentrated so much on the second scenes that she never really developed the overall plot into what could have truly amazing.

Quinn is a secretary who works for an attractive rich boy boss, Nicholas, who flirts with her every chance he gets. She makes sure he knows she not interested in anything other than a working relationship and he can’t believe she has rejected him again.

After attempting to ignore several disturbing calls and text from her ex-boyfriend Walter, Quinn is shocked when he shows up at her job one day. In order to get rid of him she tells him she is engaged to her boss Nicholas. Nicholas plays along. However, when Nicholas hosts an engagement party for his brother and his estranged parents are staying at his home he asks Quinn to return the favor and be his pretend fiancé. Unfortunately, they are a snooty bunch and treat her like a second class citizen.

When Nicholas takes Quinn home they end up
Sleeping together and she becomes pregnant. Not really sure what she should do, she stalls while she figured out how to tell Nicholas. Of course Walter is back in the picture causing trouble for both Nicholas and Quinn. The question is how far will he go to get Quinn back.

As I stated earlier, this read had the potential to be really good if the author had focused a little more on the Walter angle. Additionally, I don’t like it when the world building is insufficient leaving me with questions. Where are Quinn’s parents? What role if any does Nicholas family play in the couple’s lives when the babies arrive. Oh well, I guess we will never know.

Nicholas is a French billionaire and CEO of his American company.  He is known as a player, never having trouble getting women to go out with him.  Quin is Nicholas' assistant.  She is good at her job.  She is confident and sassy.  She does not let Nicholas' constant flirting affect her.  She knows his history and she doesn't need any complications in her life or on the job.  Nicholas is not use to women being unaffected by his charms.  He is determined to affect Quinn.  When the two become fake fiancés to deter Quinn's creepy stalker ex-boyfriend and to keep Nicholas' visiting family from harassing him about finding someone, things change.  The two share one glorious night together after too much champagne.  They are determined to not let this affect their work relationship.  Quinn finds herself sick and having to miss quite a bit of work and with the awkwardness between them, she is hesitant to return to work fearing that their relationship can never get back to normal.  Can these two find their way amongst the emotional and outside turmoil?

This is a good workplace romance story.  It is well written with great characters that have some depth to them.  I am a fan of this author for sure, however, this book was not may favorite of hers.  Although I like Quinn's character, I found her to be way to wishy washy and not in control of her behavior.  For being an older woman in a high powered profession, I don't think this fits.  My feelings on this could just be that I'm older and don't care for the angsty type of relationships.  I really enjoyed Nicholas' character.  I liked seeing him change throughout the relationship and realize what he wants in his life and in a partner.

I received a review copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

5 STARS for Baby Bump by Miley Maine

ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own & have not been influenced in any way.

LOVED Baby Bump !!! This book is definitely my “jam” / genre love office romances. Nicholas is a self made billionaire having moved from France to start his own fashion brand business. Quinn has been his secretary / assistant ( basically can’t FUNCTION without her even for coffee ☕️ ) for the past 3 years. Quinn is the epitome of efficiency - keeping Nicholas organized , in line & handling the workload of 3 + people !!! Nicholas has been trying to make a play for Quinn for the past few months - but she wants nothing to do with her playboy boss. ( why ruin a good working relationship with complications )

Quinn has an ex boyfriend in stalker mode & needs Nicholas’s help playing her “fake” fiancé - in turn Nicholas asks for Quinn’s help to play his fiancé at a party he is hosting for his family visiting from France. These two are super attracted to each other but Quinn is in denial ... wanting nothing to do with Nick’s playboy ways. When Nick realizes that his standard approach to dating ( ie one night stands / casual dating ) just won’t cut it he decides to change his ways & win Quinn’s heart ...

Baby Bump met my ✅ list for a great read :

Loved the cover - great visual of Nicholas
Great characters / secondary characters
Good storyline
🔥Off the charts chemistry
Standalone / great HEA & epilogue

Read in just one sitting - LOVED IT !!!!

I will be checking out other books from this ( new to me ) author !!

Quinn enjoys her job, but she can’t stand her boss’s flirting. She doesn’t do anything to attract this type of attention. But when he suddenly stops and acts professionally, she doesn’t understand why she is getting upset.
Nicholas is used to women falling at his feet just for one night with him. Why is he so attracted to Quinn? She is smart, works hard, and beautiful... Nicholas is determined to make her his and he knows it’s going to be for more than one night.
When Quinn’s ex shows up and she claims Nicholas is her fiancé, Nicholas goes with it. In return, Quinn carries the fake engagement thru an engagement party Nicholas has thrown for his brother and when their night goes horribly, it doesn’t stop the sparks and when their one night of passion turns into more - will Quinn and Nicholas be able to get over their hurdles and admit the truth to one another? What will happen when Quinn shares her secret with him?

I really enjoyed this read by Miley. The push and pull was quite funny in the beginning, I loved the transformation of both Nicholas and Quinn. Their growth in this story was fantastic. The flow of the story itself was perfect - I didn’t find myself getting bored at all. Miley added just the right amount of suspense/drama, with steamy scenes, and enjoyable banter to make this a romance I will definitely be reading again.

“Baby Blump is book number one in the Billionaire Bosses Book series by Miley. Geez this story was so good! Miley was a new author to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m so pleased of what I read. Since I read the blurb I new I wanted to read this book. I’m a lover of fake relationship stories and this one didn’t disappointed me. I was captivating, intense and so full of emotions. I promised not to give spoilers and it’s so hard! Enjoy the ride you’ll be lead into.

Nicholas Dubois, the richest man in Manhattan was everything I hoped for and I’m so in love with him. He had that cocky attitude that you kind of love and hate sometimes but he was also attentive and somehow friendly.

Quinn, it was kind of frustrating at the beginning to be honest, I’ve some issues with girls that assure they’re not hot and only look so normal. What does normal even means?Anyway, it took me sometime to get to like her but she was good character.

George, Quinn’s ex, I’m not gonna waist your time with deep details but he was possessive, aggressive and so manipulate. I hate guys like them!

I really loved Quinn and Nicholas relationship. Their chemistry was somehow different and special. I’m just gonna leave and warn you of a lie that lead to a favor that evolved as a fake engagement and ended on a beautiful happily ever after.”

This was such a cute and quick read. I debated rating it four stars since I enjoyed it so much and I felt like 3 is too low. In the end I decided on three-- but really its a 3.5.

This book was super adorable. It went by quickly and I read three fourth of it in one afternoon. I would have finished it a lot sooner--like in one sitting-- but I had to finish up my college finals.

I really loved the chemistry between the two main characters. I loved how the author made them more mature and they didn't do a bunch of stupid stuff like I've read countless times in other books. One thing I must add, which I found super funny, is how the guy never even thought she could pregnant.😂 Like bro! Y'all had unprotected sex like four or five times-- with no mention of condoms or if she was on birth control. Haha, I found it really funny.

Quinn's ex is a total psychopath! Like y'all need to push a restraining order on him, ugh. That is one thing that really bothers me in books. If someone is doing stuff (like stalking or behaving abusively or terribly) and no one does anything about it. Like, girl! Put a restraining order him! Maybe it's because I grew up in the South, but if someone is acting up bad like that--like stalking or being a creep or abusive-- we do something about it. Just sayin'..🤷🏻‍♀️

Overall I really enjoyed this book.

Three stars

The book wasn't bad. I enjoyed it, but I think it could have been more. It was good in the beginning; setting up the drama between Nicholas and his family and even the relationship between Quinn and George. Afterwards the book started focus Quinn' internal struggle on telling Nicholas about the baby, which was fine until it continue to drag on until the end.

If this book were to continue on, I would recommend a sequel AND a prequel. The prequel would focus on how both Nicholas and Quinn were before she started to work for him. For example, we could look into Nicholas' life in France before moving to America and his playboy ways before Quinn. For Quinn, focus in depth on the relationship she had with George leading up to their break-up.

For the sequel, it would mostly focus on Nicholas and his family because after the party, they were mention once and never talked about or seen again at all. I would like to see how both Quinn and Nicholas work through it together. Although they weren't the main antagonist, I felt that Nicholas' family were considering how they treated Quinn and chastised Nicholas for bringing Quinn along.

Despite all that, I would recommend this book to people that loves happy endings and wouldn't mind a little drama here and there, but doesn't override/overcome the two main protagonist.

Quinn loves being the secretary to the handsome billionaire Nicholas. The only thing wrong was his subtle passes at her with her always saying no. Well who could blame her with his playboy past? Then the attention stops and she finds herself disappointed. One day Quinn’s ex shows up and she tells she can’t be with him because she is engaged to Nicholas. He plays along but has a request of his own and things begin to heat up from there.

This is an erotic contemporary romance between two dynamic characters. The characters are well done, complete with strengths and insecurities. The dynamics and electricity between the two is amazing. The storyline flows well and is full of romance, emotional drama, hot sexy scenes and uncertainties. The author takes us on an emotional rollercoaster as the characters deal with their fears, doubts, insecurities and passions, all while coping with the impact of what life is throwing at them. The sexual scenes are explicit and progress the storyline line along nicely. There is an emotional depth to this story that is hard to find in most contemporary romances. It is well written, with a wonderful narrative and great dialogue. If you like your contemporary romances to have heat and still pull at your heart strings, then give this book a read.
