Ron Santo wrote this book because he had stories of amazing players had never been told before, he had stories of himself that had never been told before, but most of all he had a message to convey, courage. Ron Santo wrote his autobiography with the theme of courage and to never give up! Ron is a true example of never giving up! Overcoming his fight against diabetes and not taking anything for granted is the biggest thing to take away from this book!
For Love of Ivy is a descriptive narration where Ron Santo makes the reader feel as though he was right there on the field with him in 1969 when the Cubs lost to the Mets. Telling stories of his times not only on the field, but off the field, make the reader feel as though he or she was talking with Ron in person. I am personally not one that would normally read an autobiography of an athlete. However, as a die hard Cubs fan I felt that it was a must for me to read the For Love of Ivy and I am here to tell you I am not disappointed! This book was tremendous! Not only is it a must read for Cubs fans and sports fans alike, but it is a must read for anyone who is looking to be inspired! Ron Santo's life story will inspire you to not only put every last ounce of effort into something you love, but to also never take life for granted and live it to the fullest!
