This was the third book in the host series. It focused mainly on how the dark forces went after the prophets and judges while looking for the promised seed of Eve. It had a nice flow through a flash back type of narrative. I enjoyed it, but I still think my favorite was the first book.
What a way to bring the unseen spiritual world into the light! This entire series had me hooked from the first book. The author paints a fantastic but believable image of what could have happened when Lucifer decided to make his fateful decision to go against God. The entire series is a must-read!
This is the second time I read the chronicles of the Host and it’s hard to put it down. I can almost be there as it happens. I totally recommend all 5 books
This third book is just as good and thought provoking as the first two.
This once again follows from where the last book leaves off but being told to us through the shepherds that are out in the field just before the messiah is born.
This was written differently then the first but I think it worked to get us into the time of Jesus being born. It definitely set up for the next book well. We still see everything from the point of view of the angels when we are going back to where we left off in the last book but it was setting up for the next book in the series.
I thought it flowed well and it being told from the shepherds was fine because through they don't know what was going on in the spiritual realm it was ok because we still would have that perspective as well.
I liked it because it was setting the next book up and being in the time where Jesus was born just worked well and it was still just as enjoyable for me to read. It did not feel like I was pulled out of the book because it was taken place with the shepherds and them telling the story of what was going on in their past. It was kinda neat how it all worked out that the shepherds were telling the story to the younger shepherds.
I consider Chronicles of the Host among the best Books I've ever read. I read them a few years ago, so I was delighted to find a fifth book--Fire and Sword--added to the series and promptly ordered it. As Paul so aptly pointed out our battles aren't just against flesh and blood, but powers and principalities in the heavenly realm. The author gives us an excellent taste of what that means. Even though fiction, the author went through a great deal of effort to keep the flesh and blood stories scripturally correct. For some odd reason,Vol. III was rather hard to find and had to be ordered.
The progression of the story is exciting. Although the tone remains the same throughout the book. At times a little draggy but it is a good book overall.
