Oh this is nice enough book with great exciting story, good enough to be read in one single sitting, although not short enough. :) It has a nice satisfying ending as well.
Yet I rated it 4 stars here, actually 4.5 if I could. For while the story is very good, narration is good, pace is excellent, yet it is sprinkled with misinformation here and there.
The narration is based on a pattern mastered by late Michael Crichton and later adopted by Dan Brown. I loved the fact that it is based in India, exploring Indian culture. Yet the misinformation in so many places is unbearable. Readers need to know in advance not to accept those as actual proven facts.
The attempt to establish that Ellora caves, specially Kailas Mandir is built by alians, has laughable logic, I totally agree with Aditya, just because you can not think how it was done, does not mean anciant people did not know. Same logic is given about pyramids. Look at all the temples in Madurai, no architect can imagine the design, let alone build them. And yet there they are. The statistics given in the book to support the claim are wrong to start with, the dates and documentation of commissions to build the temple by the kings of times are available to date. A simple Wikipedia search would provide those.
Where he disproves Darvin's theory is also flawed. Size of human brain has grown, monkies can laugh, there are other animals who have sex for pleasure, hippopotamus no less, almost all animals and birds speak and have their vocabulory, whichever studied, animals are also found to be evolving. Just because your study is inadequate, doesnt mean what others are studying and observing is wrong.
The comparison of evolution of human race with Dashavatar, is merely comparison of choice traits, other traits so very accurately and scientifically documented are ignored completely. These stages of evolution are not imaginary, they are based on actual discoveries. While you say that a Cromangnon man settling down to form community represents peaceful rein of Ram, are you trying to say that Ram had a smaller cranial capacity and had weird looking jaw too? or are you saying that the cromangnon man also did wars on people on a different landmass altogether? That's completely selective traits comparison; comparing only the few things which are common, and ignoring all other.
Also please, no human make only 8-12% use of their intelligence. They use it fully. A simple CT or MRI of brain can prove that. If you think human can only use 12% of the brain or the intelligence, then maybe you really do. :p Lets not get into that discussion.
This kind of storytelling follows the patter from Dan Brown's books. However, in case of Dan brown it has solid research and fact checking to back it up. Here, lots of things are made up, or believed by the author without actually fact-checking them. And that is wrong. There are lots of wonderful things about Indian culture that he could have make use of, for instance the 'Khalbatkhana' or the meeting room on Raigadh, it is built in such a way that one could speak in low volume in one corner of the hall and yet it could have been heard at the other, never used.
But like I said, readers must keep their minds open and not accept these things as facts. The story otherwise is very much enjoyable and I'll recommend this to any thriller, historical thriller loving readers.
It's weird to show the photograph of the location of the treasure on cover page. I identified it immeidatly and hoped that that was not the case. Alas! :p Also I felt that to show Suryakant More as the main villain at end was quite unnecessary, the story could have been complete with only one villain, all threads could have been tied to him. This is specially bad since his character, including physical appearance, is so much based on Babasaheb Purandare. But anyways, it's well done, and totally unexpected.

The plot device itself was well conceptualized in terms of the actual finding of the treasure; however, I found the characters, their motivations, and philosophies change and align almost too easily as demanded by the plot. I think the book would have been a 5/5 read if every character did not philosophize at length about things. That approach works well in books like Mrutyunjay because the philosophy of a character IS the story; however, reading about the protagonist or a secondary character's philosophies does not do the book much good because the philosophy is either pedantic or ties into the plot in an overtly obvious way.

Despite the rating, I truly enjoyed the setting, however, much to my disappointment, the plot almost shadowed the patterns of what happens in the 'Da Vinci Code'. In all fairness, I am not an outright fan of that book as well, and the reason for both remains the same - all characters introduced in the plot coincidentally possess the exact and appropriate skillset to help advance the story/solve the puzzle. It is a matter of perspective whether that should be considered a coincidence in the universe of the book or the characters gravitating towards each other because of their skillsets makes it less of a coincidence. Personally, not a fan of the narrative device, but I definitely enjoyed the actual treasure hunt.

Dan Brown

When I tried to read this felt like it was written with movie perspective, the character didn’t got a good time to sink in.
Somewhere i thought the book was copying Shodh by Murlidhar Khairnair which i think is excellent and has similar sort of story line.
The end was very obvious
Still it keeps entertaining throughout the book and has a good command at historical happenings.

If you have read ‘The Da Vinci Code’ by Dan Brown and have watched both parts of the ‘National Treasure’ movie series, this book is just an attempt to copy the formula by adding Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to make it more marketable.

Good suspense story but in some parts it doesn't look realistic. Author looks biased towards hero. But a good read for one time.
