When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Or in Charlie's case, the going just gets tougher. It was enough to make him wonder if his luck would ever change. He should have known better.
Charlie had already managed to overcome alien mercenaries in two galaxies, miraculously saving his own neck as well that those of his dear friends. But things were getting complicated, and fast. Very, very complicated, in fact. With their forces in the dark as to the true nature of their enemy, Charlie and his band of rebel pirates and resistance fighters would have to dig deep if they hoped to find a way to overcome the deadly foe. And failure? It would mean a life of slavery if they were lucky, though Death was a far more likely outcome. But there was another, unexpected player in this game of magic and warfare. More than one, in fact. And as their roles became clear, the entire nature of the battlefield would change. But whether or not they could adapt in time to survive remained to be seen.
Scott Baron is an American author with a penchant for oddball stories with O. Henry-esque twists.

I volunteered for an ARC of the series in exchange for an honest review.
The series as a whole has been pretty great. Some of the books have been these fun romps, some have been good (and they get us where we need to be) but Rebel Mage and Dragon King have been my absolute favorites.
We're on the verge of intergalactic war! You want your best people toeing that line and squashing the enemy. This was everything and everybody i wanted. I loved this one. It's like my dream team assembling. ( It's perfect!)
I can't wait for book 8 to be done! I've got theories, and questions dating back a few books i hope to see answered 😁 And anytime you get to spend with a space vampire and a talking toaster- you're having a pretty great day!
Rebel Mage Charlie is the seventh... holy cow I've already read seven of these books... book in The Dragon Mage series from Scott Baron. It's also the second book that features crossover moments with Daisy and others from The Clockwork Chimera series. I've been trying to figure out if reading both series is helping me understand it better or if Baron does a good enough job explaining who these characters are. I think right now since I'm one book behind in the Clockwork Chimera series so I might be just a bit behind on why certain things are the way they are, but that's okay. It's not enough to make me upset.
If you've made it this far in the Dragon Mage series then this is another great book. You can definitely feel things ramping up to the ending and things being put into their respective places for a clean and nice full story arc. That's what I like about all of these books so far is that they have their own arcs, but also have this overarching arc that the entire series has followed. So, each book gets a clean finish but also sets up the narrative for the next book. I haven't felt like any ending was a frustrating cliffhanger (and even if I did, the books have come out in such quick succession that I could finish it a month later - kudos to Gary Bennett for flying through the recording of this entire series).
There are moments in Rebel Mage Charlie that definitely feel like we've gone through them before, but now it's from a different perspective or a different point of view. Each things that's happening to them is leading up to this epic final moment (no spoilers here).
Overall, another fantastic book from Baron and another great story. I've really enjoyed this series and I'm not going to know what to do with myself once it's over. Especially since I'll be finishing up both this series and Daisy's story within a week or two of each other. It's going to be like a part of me is just over.
This book takes off within a day or two of where the last one took off. Each time I am more amazed at how these characters continue to grow and change. I always find myself so engrossed into Charlie and gang that it is almost disorienting to come back to the real world. I am left wanting more. We are brought right into the middle of a heated battle of magic and tech. That leaves Charlie, Ara, Bawb and the rest scrambling to not only get more help into this universe with them but to get intel as to what is going on and who is behind the whole mess. I keep saying this but don't start with this book! Go all the way back to the beginning of the authors series called Clockwork Chimera. Read them in order then come to the Dragon Mage series and read them in order. I promise if you like this genre of sci-fi/fantasy you will not be sorry and I think we could have more than a few converts to this genre if you would give it a chance. From book one that I read this author quickly made his way to the top of my favorite authors list right along side Anne McCafffery and that is not easy she has been a favorite of mine for years! Looking forward to whatever is next!

This is number seven in the series, and it's as fresh and exciting as if it was the first. This is the most complex story to date, I feel. I don't mean it is confusing or anything like that, I mean 'complex' as in multiple big storylines running at the same time.
As usual, Baron gives the reader exactly what they want: an unknown, but very powerful, enemy; a war with the potential for huge costs in human/other beings lives; old and new characters in real danger; and of course, Scott Baron TwistyTwists™ are always included. The reader can also look forward to joining in whilst reading the book, with a raised heartbreat, audible gasps, frogs in the throat, and loud shouts of, "Noooooo!".
I don't want to give any of the plot away - and I won't - but this really, really is a fantastically well thought-out book, as well as being disastrous for Charlie. Come on, I'm not telling you anything you didn't know already. Remember Murphy and his law? Uh, huh. He's everyone's best friend at the moment, and the feeling is definitely not mutual.
I chose this book from a larger selection which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.
Seriously? I mean, really. Give the poor man a break! I can't say anything without giving parts away, so all I can say is, read the book! I'm pretty sure I know who the powerful visla is, but I'm not saying anything. I'm very interested to see how this disaster turns out. And super excited about more Daisy, Sarah, and Freya!
This is such an awesome series! I love everything about this and I am thrilled to see there is at least another book! I would just keep reading these forever because the story is so awesome. Seems I cannot get enough. These books keep getting better too! Just jump back to the first book and catch up!

I might just as well change my address to the other side of the portal and officially move to that galaxy! Already ordered the next book. I'm thinking of going back and re-reading from the beginning.
So Charlie and Leila escape the tower WITHOUT, even bothering to check other cells. Really nice of them. They knew Hunze has been kidnapped but they didn't even once bothered to look in the prison cerls .And he could wipe out the entire battle fleet, but his precious feelings get I the way, so others have to die instead.
Each book keeps getting even better than the previous!
This particular book's plot is made up of smaller plots that when they come together, it is a great story in and of itself! Looking forward to next book!
I love reading about the adventures of Charlie and his friends. This time it is war that finally brings most of them together along with some new ones from his galaxy.
Exactly as expected from the author. Fun, simple, childlike, predictable, what an simple minded person thinks smart people are like. If food, it’d be gas station food.
This is the seventh book in the series and the first in Which Daisy and Charlie get to meet. If you have not read the The Clockwork Chimera series yet, I would recommend reading that series before this book.
Scott Baron continues the arc he started in book 6, with more and more hints about who is really behind the near and possible future destruction of Earth. Come watch your favorite characters continue to be put into peril and learn more about the plot against Earth and humanity.
What happens when you decide to try taking on another galaxy, a magic welding one at that! All plans go out the door, like a drunken sailor, singing their songs and tripping over the smallest things... this is what happens with Charlie, Bawb and friends... keep reading!
Much improved by not repeating paragraphs and or sentences of past books of series. As if trying to inform someone you did not read the previous books to whom characters were. That had been my only negative which I am happy to say was definitely corrected.
This entire series is addictive and immersive. A rare opportunity to lose yourself in a epic story as the people and events are brought to by in a way that leaves you begging for the next book.
