Cordelia Jameson is left alone after her brother’s death. He left her with $5000 which she knows won’t last forever and she doesn’t want to be alone. She wants a husband and children. She decides to become a mail-order bride and goes to Brides for the West to sign up. David Thomas survived his sociopath wife’s machinations. She was hung for attempted murder and kidnapping, though he would have divorced her in any case. He’d do anything to protect his four-year-old daughter Margie. But now that he’s moved out west, he realizes he needs someone to care for Margie and he needs a wife for himself since he wants more children, too. He’s vowed he won’t allow his emotions to get involved, not after what he went through with his first wife.
While Cordelia is living at the boarding house, waiting for her mail-order groom, her brother’s former partner, Richard Lynch, finds her. He demands the money that her brother left her. She refuses and he backhands her sending her to the floor. If not for the interference of another of the brides, he might have beat her to death.
When Cordelia leaves to marry David, she believes she’s left Richard behind her. But like a bad penny, he shows up in her new town making the same demands only this time he threatens Margie.
Cordelia knows he won’t go away and even if she does give him the money, when he finds out that David is rich, he’ll be back again and again, blackmailing them. He has to be stopped. Now. But how?
Cynthia Woolf is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of eighty-five works of romance fiction. Comprising sixty-six historical western romances, ten contemporary romance novels, two contemporary romance novellas, one historical western romance novella, and six sci-fi space opera romances, which she calls westerns in space. Along with these books, she has also published twelve boxed sets of her books and two short stories.
Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance, Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede, that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy, not a bounty hunter, and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now), not the ranch owner.
Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband, Jim, and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

Set once again in Golden City, this mail-order romance has suspense and adventure as Cordelia realises that if she wants to have a family of her own, she needs to head out West for a husband. David Thomas has decided that whilst he will never ever give her heart to another woman after his disastrous marriage, his little girl Margie does need a mother. Cordelia's first ugly encounter with her brother's ex-partner is on the eve of her departure from New York, but when she encounters him again in Golden, she knows that the lives of those she has come to love are at stake. Both and David and Margie worm their way into her heart and Cordelia will do what it takes to keep them safe. When the worst possible scenario occurs, Cordelia is as good as her word as she fights for her family. The story is well written, giving insights into the era and painting a picture of early Western society. Although characters from a previous book in the series appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I was glad to read David's story. Glad he found someone he could love and trust. After what he went through with his first wife, he deserves it. As Cordelia was getting ready to travel to meet David, her husband to be, her brother's business partner came to get money from her. She refused to give him the money and he beat her. Once she was married and settling in, the business partner show up again to get the money. He will stop at nothing to get it, even kidnapping an innocent little girl. Cordelia will do anything to stop him from hurting those she loves. Will he kill her before she can save them?
Oh how I loved this story. Cordelia is a gem like no other. She is a great women for David and a more loving mother for Margie. Margie needs a very special mother after her own she had. The Richard thing is something that was a big thing back then and he got when he deserved in the end. The added gifts were what they needed.
The second story in the series and this one will start in New York City and then on to Golden City, Colorado. This is a clean historical western mail-order bride story. While it will read as a stand-alone, it will have people from ‘A Husband for Victoria,’ another New York mail-order bride who will marry a rancher in Golden City, Colorado.
From the first book, David Thomas, who was a banker, will come to Colorado and decide to stay. He has his young daughter, Margie, and is now a widower. He will buy a running ranch, and also have a bank in town but is divided between the two. His housekeeper is an older woman, and it isn’t easy for her to also take care of a child. Victoria, a friend and former nanny of Margie, suggests to David that he should send off for a mail-order bride, and that is precisely what he will do. Cordelia Jameson’s fiancé died in the war, and now she has lost her only family member, her brother. He left her a sizable inheritance, and she had decided to become a mail-order bride and start a new chapter in her life. She will be matched up with David Thomas and travel to Golden City, Colorado.
“David, I’m a spinster of thirty-two years. I was at the point I thought never to feel a man’s touch or have children of my own. You are the answer to my prayers.”
The story will have Cordelia leaving New York and traveling to Colorado, and thinking she is leaving trouble behind in the form of Richard Lynch, a man who bought her late brother’s business. David is a man who was married to a conniving shrew who tried to kill Victoria and paid for her crimes. He loves Margie and knows she needs a mother, and yes, he would like the companionship of a wife and more children—but what he doesn’t have to give is his heart. Cordelia and David have wonderful chemistry together, and she is a blessing to him and Margie, along with the housekeeper, Ada, and all the ranch hands.
“Could they put their pasts behind them and build a real future together?”
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people, with plenty of angst, mystery, suspense, and danger. Trouble will come to Golden City, and they are ready for it, but it still has some intense scenes. The story has some scenes of violence, life, and death, kidnapping, and rescue. Cordelia is a strong, loving woman who proves herself with David and gains the love of Margie—but will she ever have David’s love?
The story is of perseverance, second chances, new beginnings, and putting the past in the past and moving forward with a future. It has several very emotional scenes, and also ones that had me laughing and crying tears at the same time. With a small epilogue, in the end, life is good, and this family is getting their happily ever after ending.
This book is just as good as the last book in this series. Cynthia Woolf has done a great job here. I look forward to the next one. Cordelia Jameson is a strong woman that needs to plan for her future. He brother has died, and she now has no where to live as she has been living with him. She has no other family so what will she do? She does have the $5000 her brother left her but that will not last forever. With nothing else in New York for her and she hopes to have a husband and children someday, she decides to become a mail-order bride and go west. Just before she leaves her brothers ex business partner finds her and threatens her as he wants the money her brother left her. When she says no, he hits her good and just might have killed her if not for one of the other brides showing up. She hopes this move will keep him away. David Thomas is a widow now that his crazy wife is dead. She was hung for kidnapping and attempted murder. He moved west after all that and is starting new. He does have a daughter that needs mother that will care for her. He also would like more children, but he is not looking for love again. He doesn’t want to go through that pain ever again. As soon as she arrives Cordelia and David are married but not before he sees has had been beaten. He askes about it and she tells him about the trouble from Richard (her bothers ex business partner). Later when Cordelia, David and his daughter are in town they run into Richard. He still wants what he thinks is his. Richard gets the drop on Cordelia and almost kills her again. David is now protecting her and his daughter. So, will Cordelia be able to stay alive with Richard in town? Will David be able to keep her and his daughter safe? Will Cordelia be loved by David or will this all end badly?

This is the second book in Cynthia Woof’s “Brides of Golden City” series. As in her other books, Ms. Woolf provides fascinating insights into the reasons women became mail order brides and how this decision affected their lives.
Cordelia becomes a mail order bride after her brother dies. His ex-partner, Richard, who had bought him out of his business, now wants that money back. When Richard threatens Cordelia, she decides to start over. She moves to Golden City in the Colorado Territory where her new husband, David, owns and lives on a ranch with his daughter, Margie.
However, Richard follows Cordelia to Golden City in order to get his money back. Richard has no conscience. He stalks Cordelia and her family and has no problem using her husband and Margie to get what he wants.
What follows is a love story with an explosive villain who will do anything to get his money back. Even though the reader knows there will be a happily-ever-after, Cynthia. Woolf skillfully creates an absorbing historical novel filled with excitement, intrigue and adventure, and an evil villain.
Readers can read this book without having read the first book in this series. However, that book tells the story of David and Margie. I highly recommend that you read that book first.
This is the story of David and Cordelia. David is from the previous book A Husband for Victoria, although you do not necessarily have to read that book to enjoy this one. David needs to find a wife to be a mother to his daughter and take care of her as the little girl is just to much for him and the housekeeper to take care of along with the day to day running of David's ranch. David decides to contact his friend and ask her to send him a mail-order bride. Cordelia's brother, the last of her family, recently passed away leaving her with some money but little else, so Cordelia decides to become a mail-order bride and she is chosen to become David's wife. However, before she can get packed and leave, she is threatened and attacked by her brother's former business partner. He wants the money that her brother gave her. Cordelia escapes to Oregon City and David hoping that she has left her troubles behind her. Cordelia soon learns otherwise. To find out what happens, read this wonderfully told story and discover if David and Cordelia can find love together and make a loving family for David's little girl and see if the bad guy gets his just reward. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Husband for Cordelia by Cynthia Woolf is book 2 of Brides of Golden City series. This is Cordelia Jameson's story. It has romance, adventure, mystery and a dead brother's former partner hunting her. Cynthia Woolf develops the characters so you feel like you know them. Cordelia is a strong lady. Cynthia Woolf keeps you interested to see what happens next. The story also shows how important having two people to take care of just surviving was helpful. Each story keeps your attention . They do fine as stand alone but if you read the series you get to feel like you know the town.I keep thinking what more can be written with mail order brides but each story is unique in many ways. It is becoming one of my favorite genres along with Cynthia Woolf.
I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review.
A Husband for Cordelia is Book 2 of The Brides of Golden City Series. It is an easy-to-read action packed page turner with wonderful characters. We first met David Thomas in A Husband for Victoria and he decides to write his friend Emily for a mail ordered bride. He is not looking for love, but a partner in raising his daughter Margie. Emily decides to send Cordelia, who signed up to be a bride as she is tired of being alone. She lost her fiance' in the war and recently her brother. She is not looking for love, but companionship. Their relationship starts off on a positive note, but her brother's partner came looking for her and is starting trouble. Can both of them put their past behind them and build a real future together on trust and love? Read on to find out, you won't be disappointed.
What a well written wonderful book. She has heartbreak loosing two people. One of them being her brother. He leaves her a fortune so she decides to be a mail order bride and hopefully get a husband and kids who are a blessing to her and loves her. She finds someone who has had a horrible experience with his first wife. They hit it off and things are great. One thing though is her late brother's business partner wants the money her brother left her. He causes her trouble and follows her to her new life and causes trouble there too. Can she and her new husband work this out? I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Wonderful and heartwarming, two people come together that needed each other. David Thomas from the first book in the series and Cordelia Jameson, who needed desperately to get away from New York after her brother died. Thomas was left with his daughter Margie after his wife had really gone crazy. She had tried to murder their daughter's governess, Victoria, claiming the child she carried was David's. Now he had moved out to Golden City, Colorado, where Victoria had married and was very happy. He needed someone a mother for his daughter so he could run his ranch and his bank. He knew he would never fall in love after his tragic first wife. Cordelia needed to get away from her brother's old partner who wanted the money her brother had left her claiming it was his. Being a mail order bride was the answer. But danger may lurk as these two marry and take a journey to find happiness. Perfect.
Cynthia Woolf has given us another heart-warning western bride tale, with more trials and drama. New to the life out west Cordelia does her best to be a good mother to David’s little girl and finds she loves the life of a ranch wife. Just as she starts to settle into her new role, trouble has followed her from New York. After some hair raising riding and kidnapping, Cordelia finds she is strong enough to take care of herself and her new daughter, with the help of her wonderful husband, and to grab for the life she wants. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Cordelia's brother has died and she's now all alone, she contacts the mail order bride and moves into the house. David, whom we met in A husband for Victoria, needs a wife to help with his daughter, Margie, as he can't manage his ranch and his bank and still spend enough time with her. Cordelia needs to leave quite quickly because her brother's ex partner is after her, for the inheritance she received from her brother. She travels to meet David, but Richard follows her and a good romantic suspense follows. A good read from Cynthia I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Another entertaining story by Cynthia Woolf. It was nice to see this story about David and his daughter Margie after the trauma they suffered in New York. David had won my support then with his help and this story with Cordelia adds a nice spin to how he gets his own HEA. Cordelia, having been not really "close" with her brother, added a very intriguing adventure as she struggles with her brother's and his partner's nefarious schemes. A clean, sweet, easy read.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
A Husband For Cordelia, is A fantastic story of a girl who knows what she wants but gets herself into trouble of trouble just seems to follow her. In this story you have it all that makes reading so much fun and enjoyable. Travel through the west, the heard road to travel and dusty! You have love, hate, bad guys, good guys, the law, blackmail and being a mail order bride. When you are that, you really don't know who it what you will end up with. Adventure you will have and sit there waiting and wondering what will chime next! Did I suggest, grab the tissues?
This was an excellent book! I enjoyed reading David's story and was happy that he finally found love! We first met David in A Husband for Victoria; he was the father of the young girl that Victoria serves as governess. He suffered through a very difficult marriage, so it was great to see that he overcame his difficulties and found someone who truly appreciates him. As always, Cynthia Woolf has written a great love story filled with action and adventure!
The author has penned a story which is Book #2 in the Brides of Golden City series with great character development and lots of action. This is Cordelia and David's story, including David's young daughter, Margie. There is kidnapping, murder, a villain from Cordelia's past, good friends, a loving community, and romance. I enjoyed this story very much and highly recommend it. Once you start reading it, you will not want to put it down until you have finished
I loved how this author brought together two people who thought they could never love again. David with his late wife being crazy and Cordelia having no family left. They come together to build a life together until Cordelia past follows her. I like how Cordelia finds her inner strength she never new she had and David learned to love again. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read western romance books.
In book two we find ourselves once again acquainted with David Thomas. Only this time he is in need of a wife and mother for his daughter. Cordelia and David are a match made in heaven. If course there is some suspense in the form of an associate from her brother's past. I loved this book and can't wait to read more.
A cute story of a lady who comes west to marry after her brother dies. Her new founfd bless is almost shattered when her late brothers bussiness associate finds her and demands she give him the money her brother left for her. His demands go to violence and finally he kidnaps her husbands small daughter before he is stopped and things return to normal. Action and romance with a happy ending.
Cynthia Woolf tells us a story with well developed characters, plenty of action plus a romance. I loved this story and it didn’t hurt that the adorable daughter has my name. I look forward to the next book.
I always enjoy reading this series. Its like catching up with old friends after being apart for a long while. This book has it all romance, mystery intrigue and wonderfully developed characters that draw the reader in from the first page till the last. Loved it.
This is a wonderful story with endearing characters. David wanted a wife to help care for his daughter. Cordelia wanted a family so she became a mail order bride. When Cordelia's past catches up to her it threatens her new family. This is a wonderful story and I would definitely recommend it.
Too much 'relations' for me to enjoy reading the book.
The story started ok but I don't care for violence against women and don't need detailed French kissing and marital relations to enjoy a story. I would have finished the book if these had not been there.
A husband for Cordelia was a view of women abuse. A mean greedy man followed Cordelia to her new life. In her new life that she thought she would never have she found a family. Ready to read the next book! Jo
A well written book as is normal for this author. She crafts her books with just enough adventures and intrigue. In this one two people marry for reasons other than love but come together in it despite themselves.
I definitely enjoyed reading this book, I could only wish that the author would slow down and take her time to tell a full story so it was less choppy.
I enjoyed the book! The story was interesting and contained drama. This book is part of a series but can be read standalone. I highly recommend reading this book!
