“Nothing and no one will ever change the way I feel about Cora.”

I LOVED THIS. The plot twist towards the end I was not expecting at all. Tyler was fucking crazy & then the AUDACITY of his parents coming in trying to compensate Cora for all the things Tyler did??!!! So not okay. Also I’m glad Alex’s dad finally came around after the incident.

This was short , cute , HEA but definitely check TW. This book touches on a couple of heavy subjects

Gah!! This was soooo good! My heart about burst with all the emotion Over Me had me feeling. It really reminded me why I love the new adult genre.

Cora grabs hold of her chance to leave her small town and move to NYC with both hands. Dance has always been her passion so when she finds herself on the Kozlov Dance Company's doorstep, she signs up for an open audition - and meets Alexander, the owner's son.
Alex had this way of making me feel safe and nervous at the same time.
Sparks fly and dreams come alive, but this was no easy-going fairytale. Cora and Alex had to work for every moment of their happiness and I adored every single second of the journey.
"Cora, I think you've given away too many pieces of yourself to people who didn't deserve them."
If you love a messy love story that's filled with emotion and angst, this one's for you.

“In the end, we all want to be someone’s first choice”

Cora never left Nebraska, moves across country with her boyfriend to the city that never sleeps. 5🌟 I absolutely LOVE this book!! The aesthetic of it was everything. Something about that just hit the whole New York city vibe in diners, cafes bars and dance studios was so amazing to read and the atmosphere was so perfect!! I loved it. I loved the characters too and it was a very messy and complicated love story but god was it SO amazing. As a five star i do have a couple of cons which is unusual. I do feel it was slightly too long it could have been slightly shorter i just feel sometimes it was dragged out but at the same time the longing made a whole lot of sense and to be honest i just think I’m impatient! Because of this i was going to give it a 4.75 but the vibes and characters just hit so deeply for me and I loved it. Something about the story and setting felt so familiar and i have no idea why because ive never been to new york but I did do dancing when I was young and it was just so comforting to read ! Some scenes made me want to laugh cry or scream or a combination of all three. Some characters I loved some I actually hated wholeheartedly!! The found family sense to the book made it even better as it’s one of my favourite tropes! I think this book just really comforted me and I have no explanation for this. I also loved how she couldn’t cook and Alex cooked for her. Speaking of the two of them there connection was passionate raw and pure!! The way the author made them have such a powerful emotional connection as well as physical was an actual masterpiece. If these two are not the definition of true love i don’t what is!! It was just soo good!! I don’t really know what else to say just that I truly think this book will hold a special place in my heart 💓

Self-trained dancer Cora Michaelson is leaving her hometown of Nebraska for the first time. Following her boyfriend, Tyler, to New York City, she is looking to get away from a hard home life. However, what she finds in NYC is herself and, maybe, something more…

On an exploration mission to find coffee (duh!), Cora comes across the world renowned Koslov Dance Company. Following her heart inside she learns they are holding open auditions and in her excitement, when leaving, she runs directly into Alexander Koslov, a principal dancer, son of the founder, and instructor at the company. On the day of her audition, Alex is taken with Cora’s raw, natural, and breathtaking talent! He is determined to help her succeed and pushes to forge a friendship. Cora hasn’t had many successful friendships and her bond with Alex is new, special, exciting, and easy but, it’s about to become complicated because feelings change and, sometimes, circumstances do not. With her in a relationship and him engaged, what do they do with the big feelings they are starting to develop and what do they risk to follow their hearts?

This the first @thenjgray novel I have read and it WON’T be the last. Alex and Cora’s relationship was written to overcome obstacles! Alex is the protective, swoony hero you want for a shy heroine like Cora. His desire to care for her and keep her safe is evident in the writing and the angst of denying their feelings for each other is palpable on the page. The cast of supporting characters are integral to the story line and written with the detail and depth they deserve. This is the binge worthy, messy, beautiful love story you’ve been looking for!

I'm not sure when I last read a book with such a rollercoaster ride of emotions 😱
I normally prefer books in dual POV, but I think a few things would have gone "missing" with Alex's POV. OK, not missing, but the opposite and that would have caused missing coaster ride emotions. So, it was perfect how it was.

Did I want to ☠️ Alex 3/4 of the book? Oh definitely YES! I hated him. I knew something wasn't right. I just didn't know what and that made me hate him. How could he just be like he was and act like he did?

I felt from the first interaction between Alex and Cora that these two were meant to be together. The chemistry was just perfect. It's difficult to find words to describe it.

The things Cora had to get through. Not just during the book, which was already really heavy. Not just the ups and downs with Alex, but especially with her ex-boyfriend. Honestly, I said I hated Alex 3/4 of the book, but Tyler... I detested him with everything possible! This guy deserves heII!!! But as I said, not "just" that. She had a hard past as well. Her father especially but also her mom and brother. It wasn't an easy life.
But she found a new family in New York. It's so cute. All her new friends. I loved them all 🩷 Especially Sam. Shouldn't every girl have a gay best friend? 😁 He is so cute.

I'll definitely read more by this author 😊

OH MY GOD!! GUYS!! This book blew my expectations!! I loved it so much!!

I loved Cora. I loved Alex. I loved the setting. I loved the complicated relationships. I love the dancing. I loved it all!!

This book is one of the books I need to order a physical copy for. I usually read on my kindle and if I love it. I buy the physical. This is a no brainer!

The mystery of Coras past. The Will-they-won’t-they love story. The heartache and shock factors. This all brings this book together.

There’s honestly not a dull moment. Not one. I was ALWAYS itching it read it!

I stayed up late, I snuck a page or two whenever I could. I brought my kindle everywhere I went just in case!

Now I can’t say too much without there being spoilers. But guys. Prepare the tissues! I cried like 3 times!!

This is a book about self worth. It’s about greed. It’s about being the first choice to someone. It’s about finding your own way.

It was an amazing journey with many twists and turns.

This is a must read. 100%!

Easy 5/5⭐️

I was emotionally attached to the characters. I will read this again and again. And I need to get my hands on a physical copy like now!

Looks like I found my new auto-buy author!!

This book was exactly what I needed right now. For several reasons. First of all, my Rule of Wolves hangover was INSANE, & I was in sore need of something captivating to help me out of it. “Over Me” absolutely delivered on that. Also, while fantasy is typically my favorite genre, I honestly needed a break from it. And I was definitely needing an addicting plot. Again, this book DELIVERED. I struggled a little bit at the beginning, but by the third or fourth chapter, I was hooked. I finished it in a day and a half.

Another thing that was so excellent about this book & that made the reading experience a little extra special to me was the fact that it’s about a dancer. As a dancer myself, I heavily related to Cora Michaelson. I’ve been out of dance for several months due to injuries & surgeries. It’s been one of the hardest experiences of my life, dealing with the injuries and being without dance, what Cora and I both love most in this world. I haven’t been able to do what I love in so long, but reading about Cora dancing and doing what she loves most was so therapeutic and wonderful, & it made the book extra special to read.

Cora is an incredibly admirable character. She went through so much, but her strength throughout it all and her ability to escape in dance and in the family she found was so beautiful & so powerful to read. Also, I obviously have to mention my favorite part of the book: the romance. It was so so beautiful & emotional & captivating. I loved every minute. Alex & Cora have my heart!!

This story was incredibly addictive in the best way possible. And it was the kind of story that I could totally imagine on screen. It was filled with all the things I was craving to read: a lot of addicting drama, an absolutely beautiful love story, lovely friendships, profound character growth, & a small-town girl getting to live her dancing dreams. If any of this sounds good to you, DEFINITELY go pick up “Over Me”!! It was everything I needed in a book and more!

Hot mess of a book. Everyone seemed to fall in love with (I’m blanking on her name and I literally just finished reading it…) CORA as soon as they look at her. Why?? Such a pick me / “I’m not like other girls” vibe. Omg how crazy that she ordered a burger and not a salad, mind blowing stuff.
Plot was way too overdramatic everything that could go wrong did: brother blown up by an IED, abusive alcoholic dad, fake pregnancy from Alex’s ex, abusive ex of FMC who tried to pimp her out to his boss, Alex gets shot??? by said ex. Just crazy stuff, I’m probably forgetting a few things. Alex had anger issues as well?? Always hitting shit & throwing glass at the bar when she kisses someone else after HE ditched HER? Cora slapped too many people for my liking. And sorry, Alex sleeps with her like 2 hours after she’s SA’d and beaten while KNOWING he’s going to leave her the next day to go be with his ex???
Also the most unrealistic life in the world, moved to NYC and within a few days has procured a spot at the best dance company in the country??? After ONE audition??? And then has not 1 but 2 guys offering her FREE accomodation???
Characters were shallow & I didn’t click with any of them except maybe Milo.
Also, released in 2020 but still using spastic as a descriptor???

I enjoyed this book thoroughly!

Cora has never left Nebraska before, but now she is welcoming the change by moving to the city that never sleeps - New York with her boyfriend, Tyler. Also, the city where "Koslov Dance Company" is, run by the world professional ballet dancer Edward Koslov. After a stroll through the city, her path crosses with her dream company and one of their leading principals, Alexander Koslov - the prince of the company himself.

Cora is living her life, and Tyler is busy chasing his dreams. Things are not perfectly mellow between them, and the friendship between her and Alex is getting blurry.

Will Alex End up risking everything for her, or will Cora give up her dream, giving up more than she has ever had in her entire life?

I freaking love Cora, she was an amazing and strong-headed heroine. I also liked Alexander but was also annoyed when he gave up on her more than once. And the supporting characters of this book are the best!! Totally in love with Milo, Sam, and Mia.

N.J. Gray’s debut novel, Over Me, is a phenomenal slow-burn romance. I appreciate reading heroines coming into their own, I love strong character backgrounds, and lively support characters. This novel has it all!
.
Cora Michaelson finally gets to leave her small town in Nebraska with her boyfriend, Tyler. Embarking on their new life in the city that never sleeps, New York City, Tyler is busy chasing his dreams and Cora unexpectedly finds herself living her dream of dancing at the famous Koslov Dance Company-under the dance prince himself, Alexander Koslov. As Cora excels at the dance company so does her friendship with Alex-at the cost of her failing relationship and Alex’s tumultuous engagement.

When the music dwindles down and the city that never sleeps comes to a halt can Alex risk everything over Cora or will Cora walk away from the only thing she’s ever had?

So yea, I just finished I spent all night reading this masterpiece! (it's 7 in the morning)
I believe with each book you are going to write, you'll have a perfect quote. "In the end, we all want to be someone's first choice." That tugged at my heartstrings so freaking much and the fact that it's true for a lot of people including myself just makes it even more real. (If that makes sense, amazing! haha)
I didn't fully read the synopsis because I wanted to go in blind, so when I put the pieces together that its about a love for dance and of course love, I just kept going.
Cora is written so beautifully, real and you just want to stay wrapped up in her and not let her go.
Tyler is well a prick...that's all I'm gonna say about him.
Alexander, oh man. I'm in trouble. I'm just adding him to the list of book boyfriends. Charming, sweet, caring and will punch any guy that touches Cora even though she isn't his.
Mia, Milo, and Sam (Emmet too) are great secondary characters. It would be fun to see what they are doing.
The slow burn between Cora and Alexander letting them be friends first even with the flirty banter. I love all of that.
The solo dance scene, I had to stop and cry because it was so touching and Cora was inspired. She's so brave and strong.

"I will always choose you." -Alex. When he says that, my heart was all melty but when Cora says "He was my escape. My home. My everything. And I was finally enough." That brought me to tears. Being enough for someone is what everybody wants.

This book is a masterpiece. This book is spectacular. This book has now joined my top 2025 reads of the year. This is a book that I think people need to read. Over Me by N.J Gray is amazing. After reading the first two books in the Offstage Series, I immediately went in search for other books by this author and got myself a copy of this.

I devoured this book. This was such an amazing read. I loved Cora and Alex's chemistry right from the very first moment they met. A dance trope theme was not something I'd read before. This book has everything and at times it had me cheering and at other times I got angry and pissed. Tyler. What an asshole, I mean seriously. Who the hell does that for a damn job/promotion. And Alex's father? Yeah he was an asshole too until he earned his redemption.

Alex and Cora were the perfect friends to lovers and I love taking that journey with them. Sam was hilarious, he deserves his own book. Milo was adorable too and so glad he got his happy ending. Another 5 star read from this author and can't wait to read more from them. 5 stars.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this, the tension between Alex and Cora was nice at first but all the drama actually made me not like the book as much as I thought it would . Around the 75-80% mark i grew bored and was skim reading scenes.
I wasn’t a fan of Alex’s anger issues how that was just never brought up and dealt with, the way he didn’t confide in Cora about Natalya was ugly and I also didn’t like how Cora was always slapping people lmao

I read this because of tiktok and how it had the “who did this to you” moments. I’m glad i read it on kindle unlimited and didn’t go and purchase the book.
No hate to the author, I just wasn’t a fan of this!

Wow. This was such a chaotic mess. And not mess in the writing, but the story. I thought it was overly dramatic. Anything and everything bad that could happen, did. It was just way too over the top for me.
.
It also felt really shallow. I couldn't connect on a deep level with any of the characters. It also reminded me A LOT of the movie Burlesque with Christina Aguilera. The plot was very similar.
.
The FMC was way too over hyped. Literally EVERYONE loved her. She's the most beautiful girl in the world. She's magical. She's special. Yada yada. This one just wasn't for me.

Horrible

I started this book almost 2 months ago, and I was not going to finish it, but I said, "What the heck? I'll give it another try." I should have followed my first instinct. This book was horrible. The main characters were annoying, and they had no chemistry. They didn't even get together until about 80% of the book. The ending felt rushed, and it was just unnecessary drama.

This book was so good! It was written so well and I loved the way Alex and Cora’s relationship blossomed. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I feel like there was TOO much drama towards the end, my girl Cora did not catch a break. I also wished we would of gotten some closure with Cora and her father since I felt it was such an important part to her story. It was still a quick and easy read that I loved.

Humbling

The characters search for the light in a dark and depressing situation in life. Definitely an uplifting story of the underdog rising to the top and creating a life of their own, on their own terms. Not settling for mediocre or undesirable, rather holding out for their dreams to become a reality at all costs.
