A pessimist at heart, Conor Hudson feels utterly ordinary in a school filled with obscenely wealthy and freakishly gorgeous students. Her only desire is to blend into the background at Westmore Academy, a school for the intellectually-gifted nestled in the historic district of Savannah, Georgia. A mysterious note found in her locker one rainy day sparks a journey of self-discovery she never imagined possible. Conor discovers the beauty of self-love, lifelong friendships, and unconventional family bonds with the help of a mysterious note-writer and her two best friends, the fiercely loyal Shay Tucker, and the kind, yet perplexing, Noah Grayson. It doesn’t take long for Conor to question her view of life, allowing new friends (and even a boyfriend or two) to break down her protective walls. As her circle of friends grows, so does her ability to see herself as others do - anything but ordinary. When Conor finally discovers the identity of her mysterious pen-pal, she couldn’t be more surprised. When she learns the deeper reason behind the love letters, she is reconnected with two people she thought she had lost forever. After the final piece of the puzzle falls into place, her view of life is changed forever - crazy, beautiful, wonderful life. And it all began with a little yellow note.
M. J. Padgett is first and foremost a mom. Her free-spirited daughter has quite the vivid imagination, and her antics sometimes find their way into her mommy’s work. She is a lover of all things chocolate, a Grimm and Dickens addict, a self-proclaimed smarty-pants, and an introvert to the core.
Writing is her true passion (after raising her daughter, of course), and she writes as often as possible. One of her favorite things about writing is creating a world where people can escape reality for a little while, maybe even walk away feeling hopeful about the real world around them. When it comes to reading, she loves a book that can make her forget where she is no matter the genre. If she can get lost and feel like the characters are her real friends, she’s a happy reader.
I’ve become a fan of MJ Padgett quickly with her YA books with all of the excitement, joy and energy of teenagers without too much of the overblown drama. This story was absolutely adorable and a good length. So many times authors seem to pop out book after book with short lengths and minimal story. I found this book to be quite the opposite. The characters were well developed and likable, with quite a number but all pretty memorable. The story was about young love, without the sex and drama that so many other books feel the need to add. Overall this was a fun and cute romance that YA and grown adults can enjoy! Highly recommended for a feel good book hangover.
Awww, these characters are so sweet! By no means are they perfect (from a moral or flawless standpoint), but man, are they relatable and at least trying their best! You watch as they come into their own and try to be their best selves, and it really makes you also want to be a better person. I don’t know; there is a sense of comradery to it that seeps from the pages.
The plot does a great job of bringing the best in these characters out. Despite it being in the romance genre, it is much more about romance. It’s about friends and family and coming of age, and it’s amazing. I loved the romance; it was a slow burn, almost to the point of frustration. The friendships were amazing and felt organic. The situations felt real, and ughhh, I love it. I love it very much.
Would recommend to anyone. Literally. Just read it.
Parents- PG- good for middle school to adults Language- PG- minimal to nonexistent Violence- PG- nothing too graphic Sexual Content- PG Kissing, teen romance, mention of having "the talk", an attempted sexual assault, and references to living together but no real details
This is definitely geared to the middle and high school readers although others who like to reminisce on High school will enjoy it too. It's very much a coming of age story with a girl named Conor who's shy and not the most confident. She lives with her grandma because she lost her parents to a car accident and has been dealing with the trauma ever since, but has the support of two really great friends. There's plenty of rollercoasters in terms of emotions, friendships, dating relationships and family drama. The overall message of friendship, family, and forgiveness was fantastic. Definitely recommend.
Narrator- did a great job with the differentiations and was fun to listen to, there were some sound quality issues but not so bad to distract from the story.

Audiobook: I enjoyed this delightful coming-of-age story. Conor, Shay, and Noah became friends after Conor moved in with her grandmother. This was their story: starting at the age of nine, featuring the most about their lives during high school, and then continuing on through some college and beyond. I liked the characters. I appreciated that the characters were believable. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Shannon Dean's narration was fine and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
A cute, quick little read. Predictable, but in a good way I think. The kind of predictable you like from a soft, fluffy story like this one. I liked all the characters, there wasn't any singular one that I didn't enjoy to some degree. I especially liked Noah, he was my favorite by far.
A nice read if you're looking for something fluffy for a change!
Such a fun take on a love story. When the author was revealed only halfway through the book I wondered if it would still be good but the story continues to progress. Look forward to ready more bu MJ.
I've read the wattapd version and I can say that I'm very much in love with the novel, the story line and especially these characters that the author try and succeed to potray. I love the novel because it has it all, not just the love story between conor and her Prince charming but also the love between friends that acts more like family and those relations are so much stronger with all the hardship they gone through and all those understanding between all those relationship that starts from nothing yet they evolve so beautifully. The novel really teaches me a lot but most importantly, love is not just about falling in love and getting into relationship with your SO but how you get and stay in that meaningful relationship while still maintaining relationship with your family and friends. Besides, more often that not, a couple have broken up while still so much in love with each other because they feel like they still need to learn things and evolve as an successful individual. This novel is very much different in that aspect. The main character knows that he's in it for life and let conor enjoy, learn, see and do things she needs to be who she really was instead of just be known as 'nerd' and eventually when they got together, they are as happy, content and secure as they can be. That's relationship goals!!!

I read this book for the very first time when I was around 15 and I absolutely loved it. Now that I’m almost 18 about to graduate high school, there were so many things from this book that I didn’t appreciate at the time. The relationships, the subtleties in each character... I loved the bond of all their friendships and how they weren’t forced or over night.
It’s one of my favorite books, still years later, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a nice cozy read about teenage love and found family.
