Bridal shop alterations expert Kit Baxter lives a nightmare when forced to tailor her grandmother's wedding gown for the traitorous cousin who's marrying her ex-boyfriend. Add in a favor owed to her next-door neighbor and she's in over her head.

When he asks her to provide temporary housing for Shane Dugan, a hunky new fire department recruit in need of temporary housing, she declines. She changes her mind when Shane agrees to play the part of her boyfriend at the looming wedding festivities.

What starts out as two strangers with a bargain evolves into something more, and for the first time since her world turned upside down, Kit starts to think...maybe.

This turned out to be a good story even though at times you could see where it was going. The author did a good job of keeping just enough fun moments with serious ones with the characters. Kat Baxter works at a bridal shop as a seamstress and low and beholds her cousin comes in wanting her to change their grandmother’s wedding dress for her upcoming wedding. The groom just happens to be Kat’s ex-boyfriend whom she caught them kissing at Christmas Eve. While this is going on in walks Kat’s soon to be a new tenant for she needs a roommate. He one Shane Dugan is going to the fire academy and must live in town. Right then they agree that he will act like her boyfriend and her cousin and aunt are satisfied. Wrong he is now invited along with Kat to all of the functions that this bride has before the wedding. Meanwhile, Kat and Shane are getting to know one another and things are looking good until a few days before the wedding and Kat sees Shane kissing his old girlfriend who he said was in Milan, Italy. Now feeling once again suckered by a guy she does not know what to do? The characters in this book really add to this story especially Hop her neighbor, Kat’s mother and even Larry, Shane’s friend. Overall a good book. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Kit Baxter's life has been somewhat...complicated lately. At Christmas, she caught her cousin and her (Kit's) boyfriend kissing under the mistletoe. Now the two are getting married and her cousin wants the bridal shop Kit works at, Kit specifically, to alter their grandmother's dress. The dress that Kit has always wanted to wear at her own wedding. But she can't complain or she'll be accused of being petty. And the shop needs the word-of-mouth anyway. The one bright spot, the fact that she's been able to buy her house on the water. Of course, it's a fixer-upper. And that dead tree did just fall and crush the car she doesn't have comprehensive insurance for. So, she needs a way to make some money.
Shane Dugan needs a place to live. In order to get his dream job as a paid fire fighter, he needs to prove residence in the area. And the apartment he had locked down isn't going to be ready for 3 months. So Kit's neighbor comes up with a plan, Shane lives at Kit's and pays rent; Kit gets money.
Kit isn't so sure it will work, but when she accidentally lies to her aunt and cousin to get them off her back, she decides that, if Shane will pretend to be her boyfriend, he can live with her.
I do like a fake relationship story and this was an interesting setup with Shane already having a girlfriend. Kit and Shane have some low level vibes but absolutely nothing happens before he breaks up with his girlfriend (which I appreciated... there were some glances and feelings but nothing else.)

Mr. Maybe by M. Kate Quinn is the 2nd book in The Sycamore River Series, and my first book by this author. I really liked this book, a delightful romantic comedy that I enjoyed. What's not to like about a handsome fire fighter. Kit Baxter boyfriend of 2 years, kissed her cousin, Co-Co, under the mistletoe last Christmas, and they are now getting married. On top of that Kit has to tailor her beloved grandmother's wedding dress to fit Co-Co, although she wanted to wear it for her wedding some day. Kit allows Shane, a new fire fighter, to rent a room from her, if he pretends to be her boyfriend at the wedding. What could go wrong? I look forward to reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book is you enjoy rom-coms.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Wild Rose Press. Thank you.

I will say I did not read the first book in this series so I am not sure what I missed, however that being said this is a new book new author for me. I found the storyline cute, not very original in fact I found the story completely predictable. I did like Hop and Kit's mom they were so funny and cute. Kit seem to never let her guard down evening certain situations in the book where is seemed the author wanted you to think it was down. I also felt like sometime the author repeated herself regarding Kit's "situation". I did like Shane but he too seemed on the fence almost the whole story. The book does have some sex in it and some language. Over all this book did feel like quick read to me. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

I enjoyed this cute story. A nice take on the fake relationship. No cheating by the H or h. The plot was pretty good, the character development could have been a little stronger. I also would have liked seeing a little more time together with the H&h. Overall, an enjoyable quick read. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Quinn writes books filled with emotion and humor, and this was no exception. The book is fast-paced with characters who tug at the heartstrings, yet there is plenty of humor throughout the book. It's a follow up to Say Yes to the Mess but the book stands alone, you don't have to read them in order. M. Kate Quinn is an automatic-buy for me!

I love a good love story and this is one! Carefree, believable, delightful, encouraging. This book was artfully written and allows the reader to see and feel descriptions and emotions. I couldn’t put it down!

***Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

Though this was a quick read, it felt a little forced. The characters were not fleshed out and I didn't enjoy the story as much as I thought I would.

Cute and quick read. Simple, few good plot line about finding love when you don't expect it. It was a cute story. I didn't care for the cousin or the ex, but it still worked!
