Second Wind: Caught Between Paycheck and Passion

Rate this book
‘You have come into your comfort zone, haven’t you? The comfort zone is the enemy of ambition. I am willing to try, and I might even fail miserably, but you won’t even try. We have only one life, Sanjay, and time flies by. You won’t even know when you grow old and realize, “Oh! There was a time when I wanted to start a theatre group, maybe I should have tried.” That day, Sir, you might regret getting this high-paying job.’

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED—‘I HAVE A DREAM, BUT WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT IT?’

Sanjay Saklani is trapped and he knows it. His prestigious job offers him a comfortable lifestyle but leaves no time for him to pursue his passion of being a playwright. Captive of his pay package, EMI and social status, he has practically stopped living at 25. Until, one day, the ‘swimming pool theory’ of a salesman shakes him out of his slumber.
Soon, when he is up against the roar of a tiger in Naxal-affected Chhattisgarh, he finally decides to take a leap of faith.
Sanjay used to think that once you find your passion, everything falls into place. Little did he know this was a big fat lie. Empty pockets and unexpected betrayals follow, and even when the love of his life asks him, ‘For how long will you continue like this?’ he is left wondering where to go from here. Heartwarming, witty and honest, Second Wind is the story of the dreamer within each one of us.

The book has been written for those average people who never stop struggling in their life, who always try to do better next time just to see the smile of their parents.
Most of these people fear to choose passion over paycheck, and as usual they keep compromising throughout their life.
☄️
Second wind by Sanchit Gupta, is based on a guy who is a successful marketer, but he is not happy with his worklife. He is super confused between being a script writer and continuing his life on the path created by his degree in MBA. The flow of the story is smooth. It is motivational and inspirational.
The book shows many paths to balance your wish with your demands. You need to read the book to know the story.
It is a good one time read.

It's either being unemployed or employed but not happy so why not try to change it to employed and happy!
.
Pursuing a degree for having a stable salary is something everyone does nowadays but after sometime the salary just makes you relaxed about the financial matters but what about heart's happiness?
.
Working day and night on something you don’t even care about is something most people do.
Completing the work within deadline and then comes next day. Same job same routine same deadlines which just loops up.
.
It's always better to follow your dreams and passion as I always like to say:
I would like a job where I don't badly wait for the weekends!
.
INSIGHTS :
Sanjay Saklani is trapped and he knows it. His prestigious job offers him a comfortable lifestyle but leaves no time for him to pursue his passion of being a playwright. .
PERSONAL COMMENT :
The book is highly motivating and inspiring. The writing style is nice and the narration keeps the readers gripped. The only thing I felt disconnected to was more use of hindi sentences. The cover is so meaningful and wonderful loved it. The corporate scenario is nicely showcased.
Overall a really beautiful and motivating read.

This fiction talks a very common situation many of us go through that is when our established career that pays us good amount , providing us secure future for essentials of life and materialistic and life security do not match our inner passion and soul’s need to feel mentally satisfied at the end of the day,
The story starts with protagonist tells his cousin to check have a professional establishment and keeping passion at the back of his mind at that point of time as he prepares for his entrance exam for college.
There are three parts which start nicely with different short chapters having witty thoughtful titles too . the narration of author I have felt very smooth . Pace is nice too.
The tale tells us how being connected to yourself really matters . What we acquire through our academical qualification does not mean we have to pursue a career based only on that.
You got to be mentally satisfied at the end of the day whatever you spend the longest time of the whole day . The story glides smoothly between various situations when the protagonist comes to the introspect and also face real situations.
Also following an unconventional passion may seem fun at first and even the risk taking can be exciting to think about your being able to plunge into your dream job but how reality stands in front of you after you know you have to get a secure future too that you cannot ignore. It shows how established social norms put us into common perception and judgemental views and how it is important to understand your own needs , to be hard working and fulfil your responsibilities and accept what is what.

Things I loved in the story
🍁 I love the cover and mixture of Colors used in it. White and blue is a very good combination.

🍁 The Author has explained in simple words that we are all behind money than inner happiness. Life is short it's to be enjoyed.

🍁 We shouldn't give up dreams in sake of society, which we all usually do. I appreciate that Author took up this topic.

My views-
Since a long time, i have come across people who feel passion is more important than a 9 to 5. I agree yet disgree.
And when people decide to pursue their passion, they forget that, everything in the world requires money and sometimes connections. Without money, people are prone to be taken advantage from.
This book is based basically on the above concept. The fight between what are we doing and what we want to do. An eye opener with a brutual truth.
The plot is simple and Straight. A reader's interpretation may vary but we cannot conclude which is correct. It can be one choice for me, perhaps other for you!
Sanjay is a captive of a 9 to 5, who gets free and realizes a bunch of facts. To be honest, i understand his experiances, everyone does now-a-days.
Overall, an honest and true plot.

Second wind stirs a very important question - what should you chase- A career you really like and are passionate about or a Career that provides you security and money. As you read through it, you relate to it. You start out your career thinking you will change the world but in sometime you get comfortable and the aspiration and dreamer in you in left behind. Second Wind is about getting out of comfort zone and having the courage to pursue your dream- whatever it is.

I have always been under the impression of believing in the idea that we should always try certain things way too hard than it demands. To the point, that at times you would wake up one day and have no clue of where you stand. I bet a mountain of hopelessness and dissatisfaction would be taxing. And then it becomes tedious to distinguish from what is what and so and so. BUT. Taking a quick decision regardless of the social factors over constant disparity may slip off the cliff, due to our tailor-made ethics and pressing the casual factors to fit a narrative is the only solution is what this book advocates.

Still surmounting the constant attenuation reassures us to keep our track while calculating what our action/mislead compensates for is a ring-fencing task.

This book accounts about Sanjay's life, who explores his own life in light of his fellow's life take. How did tenor reach the climax without diluting its consistency while storytelling from the start of this book to the end, is very compelling? The author’s way of seasoning the words appeals to me as a reader, chronicling the various levels of events, presentation of monologues and the inspired zone of the protagonist with the essence of brevity that jogs down. Language is easy and the prose rolls like a river.

All in all, this book is a great compilation of chapters which connoted the human expressions and experiences well. For it lets us take away a complete package of hope and desire, compete for the series of hurdles that comes our way. A heartfelt read.

Tests show that a Bumblebee can't fly in relation to its wing span, but the bumblebee doesn't know this and it flies anyway.
The modern world which demands a societal status that boasts of a well paid job and the luxuries that come along with the big fat paycheck overlooks the passion and the inner happiness of every person. The fight between the happiness of the family to making oneself happy is what the book "Second Wind" is all about.

What impressed me?
The language is wonderful and well edited.
The title of each chapter along with the subtile is intriguing.
The story is full of instances that every employee can relate to.
The dilemma that one goes through while deciding between career and passion has been portrayed well.

What didn't go well with me?
I felt the font of the book was small which made it difficult for me to read
Also I feel the book "Nametag" could been described in detail.

My Verdict
Good Narration, interesting plot, well placed characterization with a climax well thought of makes the book a wonderful read.

it is my second book by this author and I'm really a fan of his writing style and storytelling skills which bound me as a reader and  his characters are so relatable and inspired from day to day life ,so my  expectations are high from this book .
The book cover is really very interesting and gives us a lot of ideas about the story.
The Story is all about dreams and reality of life,it shows us what happens when we run after money and our dreams or passion left behind.
This book talks about a comfort zone like if we want to achieve something in life ,we have to come out of our comfort zone and try to achieve our dreams.
this story is about Sanjay Saklani who want to become a script writer but  started job as a Manager in a FMCG company and he got success there but not at all happy and satisfied with his life because his life stuck between paycheck and passion.Story is very engaging and flow of story is good and i finished in just two days, language is also very lucid and simple.book is very inspirational and motivational too and the swimming pool story is too good as an example.

Aren't we all caught between our passion and practical goals ? Well if you are not and you are pursuing your dream career believe me you're a lucky person.

I really loved the concept of the book. It is something i can really relate to but somehow I feel like my dreams are unrealistic and I'll be doomed to face failure. This book is actually a helpful one specially for people like me. It talks about things we need to hear in order to move forward and achieve our dreams

This story is about Sanjay Saklani who gets a job in a top company but wants to be playwright. His 9-5 job was paying his bills but obviously there was no satisfaction.
An incident occurred due to which he decided to leave his 9-5 job but with that he lost his love, money, respect and everything that came with the job.

What's next? Was it worth leaving everything? Will everything be fine?

The plot of the book is real and unique.
The cover of the book is very subtle. Loved it

Overall it was a very inspiring and refreshing read.

Second Wind is a story of Sanjay Saklani who is trapped between Paycheck and the Passion. Maybe this book is a real realization for me and maybe for a lot of you guys who have read it already. So I am not gonna ruin the fun of the book by tell you anything about the story but let just say its story of all.

A real good fact I love about the book is how relatable it can be for all of those guys who are still confused between the work satisfaction or a well-paying job. This book is worth a shot, it’s self-help in the form of fiction.

●" Second wind : caught between paycheck & passion " this wonderful title already disclosed the plot of the story. Title was chosen very classy and unique. If we look at our surrounded society including our regular life, we clearly can feel that our life is bounded into a circle. Like, we born to make our life settle with a good job, marriage & family! But what, if you want to do something else apart from job, without knowing your future?

●BLURB WITHOUT SPOILER: Protagonist Sanjay Saklani, a well settled guy have everything in his life but self satisfaction. Who worked hard for his corporate life with a sufficient amount of salary to make his life smooth and comfortable indeed. He totally forgot about his dream, and lost happiness of mind.
But destiny! An incident made a good dice score for his life, he decided to leave job as result, He lost everything including money, love, social status. Fate kicked him with emptiness.

Question is, whats the next? Will everything be all right? Or will he suffer for his unchecked quick decision? Grab the book and reach there..

●Author did a great job here with all efforts indeed. A lot of unexpected twists made the story more interesting. When I gained hope of ray, I had to ready to lose it immediately! Sentences were simple but few words are hard, that I had to go through dictionary . Narration could be better more. . Cover of the book is eye catching, even I love white and sky combination. It made the book classy.

The book frames the question: Are you going to stay secure in a stable job or follow your heart into your passion?

Sanjay here in this book lands in the same dilemma, MBA (from a family of the like) with a job in IOC, a top company but passion for playwrighting. Baap and an encounter with Raagini Malhotra s 'but if you really want it from all your heart, I am sure you would get it' maks the seed of uncertainty.

An eventful happening triggers the alarm when Mr Saklani quits his nine to five well paying job and leaves the safety net to propel himself in the field of his passion!

Does he succeed? Was his decision wise?

Well, the book will actually give you a burst of reality and of what you and I actually live in lives!

Excerpts from popular Mumbai locations Parel, Andheri, Ville Parle, and dialogues from plays between Sameer and shalini you will feel very close to this book!

And then yes , you just can't be successful in today's market with merit and passion along, the dark sides are also exposed!

Do read this book to be a part of its bittersweet story ❤️
Book is beautifully divided into well fitting chapter headings and a very relevant saying at the top of each chapter. Cover is soothing and spot on with story.
Its definitely a 3.8/5* for me.

Recommended to my Mumbaikar friends very earnestly!

Second wind is a refreshing piece of writing from Sanchit Gupta. This story explains why do we meet so many people in our daily lives who advise us to follow our passion but we meet rarely anyone who has actually done something like that. There is no dearth of books on advising you on the positive effects of following your heart and how it can make you an exception. However, very few of them can boast of covering this issue at such realistic level as is done by Sanchit in "Second Wind".

Following the journey of Sanjay Saklani from self-doubt, confusion, to belief and transition into an inspired state, it gives a realistic perspective of the challenges faced by a middle class poster-boy in stepping out of his comfort zone.

"What if i am not good enough in what i aspire to do? what if i fail?"
"It sounds great pursuing your passion, living the dream, but you do a job to pay your bills"
"When I was a kid, I had a dream in heart and a spark in my eyes. Today, I advise people to remain grounded and real. What happened?"

These are the questions that used to disturb Sanjay, as much as they disturb most of us. Second wind might not offer you answers to these questions, but it will make you aware of the crisis and lack of inspiration in our daily lives.

SECOND WIND BY SANCHIT GUPTA
°°°
This was a nice read which shows the truth behind nine to five jobs and how people are stuck in it because of their basic needs. Also, people forget to follow their passion and what they truely wants to do. The story is basically about Sanjay, a nine to five guy not pursuing his passion but then suddenly everything changes. He has everything but soon left with nothing.
Will he be able to pursue his passion?
What will happen?
The title of the book is apt and one can easily come to know about what the story is about. The cover of the book is simple and beautiful. The language used is simple and easy to understand. Writing style of the author is good. Narration is good going and gripping. The characters portrayed are well developed and described. Also, this book consists of beautiful quotes which made it more interesting to read.
Go for your dreams and create your own destiny!

Overall, I liked reading it. I would like to give it 🌟🌟🌟.5/5.

This is a story of an MBA who lands a job in a reputed multinational. However, his profile isn’t what he desired so he fights for what he wants. When he lands his destination, he realises this wasn’t his true self and his calling card is out there, waiting for his first bold step.
First of all, the title is so amazingly apt to the story. I absolutely loved the characters, so much depth and it was all natural. The ending seemed incredible, the callback and it all coming full circle.
What didn’t work for me though is that the storyline seemed stretched in a certain places. It felt as if the idea was set in place and was concrete, but was being pushed forward again and again to make it obvious. I also felt that (*potential spoiler*) Nametag could’ve been more described, the storyline and the changes they eventually made.
I recommend this book to everyone!

i like how the novel is strictly grounded in reality and yet it inspires you to pursue your dreams. sanjay is an unconventional hero, his problems do not seem important enough to be bothered about and yet they strike at ur heart as you realise what we youngsters are becoming, we who have the power to bring change are just succumbing to material temptations, too scared to step out of our safety net. one can relate to him because the dilemma he faces is what we all have at our heart. the best part is that the novel doesnt hold out any false promises for the ones who take the path "less travelled by" but ensures a satisfaction which money can't buy. it gives you courage to follow your heart.

What did I love about the book? The corporate life description was spot on. The struggle to survive and the survival of the fittest in the 9 to 5 job is real. The book made me laugh in a few places. And the transition in Sanjay's character from a self doubting individual to an achiever is laudable and inspiring. Also the book has some interesting and inspiring quotable quotes.

Overall, the book was a light read and with a much relatable story.

‘Second Wind” reminds us that there is no ‘ideal’ path in life and the eternal ‘heart vs mind’ debate is an essential part of our growth as humans. The purpose of life is not as much about making the best decision for our lives, as it is about developing the courage and ability to handle the challenges life will throw at us irrespective of the direction we take. Sanchit Gupta writes with refreshing honesty and passion which connects with the personal situations of the readers, making them feel this is their own story.

Second Wind talks about the very relatable dilemma of passion vs paycheck. What sets this book apart is how realistic it is and you feel it's your own story that is being told. A page turner, breezy and witty read, it pushes you to take the right step for yourself and to do whatever you can to fulfil your own passion and dreams. A must read for anyone who has a dream.
