I wanted to start this series a few years ago but for whatever reason hadn’t been able to locate a paper copy of volume 1. When it was finally available from Amazon I immediately bought the entire series. Despite one or two rather obvious plot holes, this has been one of the best manhwas I’ve ever read (definitely in the top 5). The story was exciting, the romance was dark and twisted (especially in the beginning), and to call the art style beautiful doesn’t do it justice. As much as I wanted to pace myself with this series, it proved impossible toward the end.

Kassan is believed to be the last remaining family member of the Azkun family. Though he himself is innocent his father led a gruesome rebellion against the king and his supporters, murdering entire families in the grisliest ways imaginable and taking their wealth for himself. One of those families was the Zakadors, of which Igen is also the only remaining survivor. Igen had been used as an assassin for the last 10 years, reestablishing the power of the royal family and taking revenge against everyone who sided with the Azkun family. He is responsible for murdering Kassan’s family in an equally brutal fashion and brings Kassan to his residence to “play with him” for a while before killing him.

Kasssan is assigned the harshest tasks, beaten mercilessly, and given just enough food to not die. Yet, he still finds himself captivated by the man responsible for all of that. And Igen, despite not recognizing it, finds himself equally drawn to Kassan. It’s intriguing watching them dance around each other, trying to maintain their distance, but  failing miserably.

The second arc focuses on political  intrigue within the kingdom and its effect on Igen’s relationship with Kassan. Because Igen is a powerful ally he is dragged into conflicts he cares nothing about and whereas before he was an emotionless killing machine who took chances just for the hell of it, now he has a reason to live. It was all very exciting and I couldn’t help binging the last four volumes. There were moments in the story that genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. This is definitely going to get a reread before the end of the year and hopefully, knowing what to expect, I’ll be able to relax and enjoy it more. 5 stars

Getting a bit teary-eyed as I finished this because reading this series the past few days brought me so much joy.

Like I said before, if you enjoyed Pacat's Captive Prince, you will love this. The enemies to lovers is enemies-to-lovering, if they are not borderline obsessed with each other I do not want it. This was a bit spicier than I usually prefer to read but I actually didn't mind it that much.

"The day you stabbed me, you took my heart. It is no longer mine. You are my owner."

I stayed up way past my bedtime reading this the past few nights and it made me both laugh and cry. Laugh mostly because the main characters are called Igen and Kassan. Igen means againin Swedish and Kassan means cash register's in Finnish.

The story itself is a bit repetitive at times but honestly? I did not care in the least. It fit them so much because in their situation? I, too, would be struggling with the same things over and over again.

The art is SO pretty! I adored the characters and I am going to miss them all so much TT

This series may have started out a bit wonky but it picked up really quick. It's actually quite a hidden gem.
