Novoneel Chakraborty, I adore you. A surprising sentence, that too coming from me. But I do admire you. Your ability to stay relevant after peddling badly written "thrilleroticas" for so long, deserves applaud.
You know your audience well, your pretentious manner of writing, your love for cliches, and your preference of smut over content, solidifies your presence in the Indian reading market. A demographic who would rather accept death, then ever broaden their reading spectrum.
The only reason I turn to you is because your books are cheap. Secondly, they have good glossy covers. Another applause for the marketing maestro that is you and your team. Your novels serve as a good cushion between a string of actual books. A dose of shallow escapism.
But then, how did you manage to write a book as boring as 'Cheaters'. It had your usual pretentious character names, cliched world views, predictable plot lines and god awful dialogues. (The Whore and the Wife, takes the cake for having the worst dialogues I've read in a long time.)
But maybe you're a lonely man, Novoneel Chakraborty. Amidst the ocean of your rabid fanbase, maybe you're so very lonely. Such loneliness would explain why you barely know how people actually converse. It would also explain why majority of your characters are cut from the same old cloth.
But I'll give it you, this short story collection wasn't remotely as bad as the Forever Duology. You actually managed to write some solid if forgettable stories in this. Maybe tone down the erotica a bit? Think about being unpredictable for once? Devote as much time improving your dialogues, as you ponder over the term 'Soul' in your books?
I believe in you Novoneel Chakraborty. And I'll keep on buying your books, because I make questionable life choices.
