To Seduce a Highland Scoundrel, by Collette Cameron. For a short romantic love story, this book shared a lot with the readers. I thought all the characters were written with good clarity to the plot to the story. Each characters background was explained with clear details allowing me to gain more information from the story. The story was very entertaining for me. The different story directions, such as Marjorie and her feelings. Her two daughters and how they coping with one parent. Graeme trying to live his life alone and Berget fleeing from all that she has ever known to fight for her freedom. The story was easy to read. I didn’t get hung up on to much of the dialogue, but I did catch the meaning of what the writer was wanting to share with her readers. The romance between Graeme and Berget is a quick relationship that blooms with love and admiration for one another.
The Runaway Betrothed! Berget was the daughter of a Scottish viscount, but had been reduced to a governess. But it was better than being forced to marry again, this time to an older, groping, vile man, so she had escaped when she found the ad and hoped she would not be followed. Her destination was to the Highlands and the castle of Laird Graeme Kennedy. Oh yes, a handsome braw man who loved his nieces, that Berget was to be in charge of and then their was their mother, the widow of his older brother who had her eye on him! I truly enjoy every story that Collette creates with her wonderful humor and well drawn characters who wrap around your heart. Berget and Graeme are two wounded souls from previous marriages that dance around each other... He's suspicious that she is keeping secrets (well yes, yes she is) that may come to harm his family. Also very protective of his family and wants to be the best Laird possible. This delightful tale had everything I adore and I could not put it down once I started!! Another brilliant addition to the Heart of a Scot series!! Loved it!
An ok novella, with the same pitfalls as most novellas, namely lack of character development. The plot was simple and this was a safe story, so I'd give it two stars. This was a nice and easy way to pass the time. :)
Steadfast, loyal, and a fierce warrior, Laird Graeme Kennedy puts his duty to his family and clan above all else. After a horrendous marriage, he’s vowed to never wed again and to become the best laird Killeaggian Tower has ever known. Brave and intrepid, widow Berget Jonston refuses to be manipulated into another arranged marriage by her father so she escapes to the Highlands & becomes governess to two adorable young girls. The last thing she expected or wanted was to encounter the intimidating, brawny Graeme Kennedy. A man who affects her as no one ever has. This is the third book in the series & whilst it’s easily read on its own, if like mw you love series then I’d recommend reading from the start. As with all the author’s book the characters have plenty of depth, I loved both Graeme & Berget from their first not so pleasant meeting at an inn. Both have secrets from their past but the more time they spend together the more they reveal to each other. The pace is good & I read the book in two sittings & thoroughly enjoyed it & look forward to more in the series
Although they get off on the wrong foot , Love soon blossoms between our hero and heroine. But secrets are dangerous things, she’s running from an unsavoury past and he’s determined to save her, for himself .
Enjoyable story and great characters. It reads easily and the story tick along at an even pace.
I very much enjoyed the book, and would recommend it.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
To Seduce a Highland Scoundrel is the third book in the Heart of a Scot series by Collette Cameron. It can easily be read as a standalone, but having read the first two myself I can happily recommend them too as they are just as wonderful as this one turned out to be.
Berget Johnson was forced into one bad marriage by her father, sold for £5000. Thankfully her husband wasn't long for the world and Berget felt relief once he died because she was finally free. Unfortunately for her, her father, despite her being of age, decided she was to marry another man, this one worst than the first. He wouldn't listen to her protests against it, so as quickly as she could she made secret plans to leave home and take up a governess job far away in the Scottish Highlands.
Laird Graeme Kennedy is looking after his brother's widow and her two young daughters. They live with him and he loves the girls as if they were his own. His sister-in-law, however, believes that she is in love with him, but with Graeme not feeling those feelings towards her he feels very awkward at times. He won't marry her as some might expect he should, in fact, he will never marry again after the dreadful marriage he was forced into many years ago.
When Graeme and Berget meet there is an attraction between them but it's one that neither wants to act upon. Neither ever want to marry again, but Berget also has the fear that her father or the nasty man she is meant to marry will find her and she needs to be on her toes ready to run if need be. The problem is that the longer she stays in the home of the Laird and the more time they spend together, the more difficult they find it to fight the attraction between them. You would think that when they realise that they might just be falling for each other and when Graeme finds out what Berget is running from, that he would offer to marry her. But he is determined not to marry and she won't marry for anything other than love. So can they have a happy ever after? Will Berget ever feel safe again. Well come on, she's found herself a brawny highlander, one way or another he will keep her safe and for himself. You will just have to read how he goes about it!
I enjoyed this story, it was short but managed to be exciting and the characters relationships with each other were believable. The little girls were just adorable and I loved the outings that they had with Uncle Graeme and Berget. There might have been some nastiness going on with the attempt at forced marriage, and the sadness of what poor Graeme endured yet kept secret, but for the most part the book was a feel-good one that I recommend.
Berget and Graeme have both had horrible marriages thrust on them and are in no hurry to endure another one.
This third book in the series is my favorite so far and shows that sometimes the past prepares us to finally find the special someone who makes you believe in love again.
To Seduce a Highland Scoundrel is book 3 in Collette Cameron’s Heart of a Scot series. I love this story. So far this is my favorite one in this series - and I have truly enjoyed all of them. It has some hilarious moments. I laughed out loud at Manifred’s description. I loved the way their love grew, and even though it was quick, it didn’t feel rushed- it felt gentle somehow. I also loved the additional characters of Marjorie and Camden. Hoping to see Camden again soon.
Berget has already suffered through the horror of her father selling her off to one of his old friends to marry. When her husband dies less than a decade later, he leaves her with nothing, Berget must return to her parents' home. Once again, her father is ready to sell her off to another old man. This one even more sinister than the last!
Berget sells all her possessions that will bring her her money and escapes to Scotland in hopes of hiding from her parents. She's been hired as a nanny, though she's had to fabricate references, being a lady and never having worked beyond her home, but her education has been very good and she has the graces, ability to teach dancing, and speaks in several languages, all skill that make her an excellent choice to be governess to two young girls.
At one of the posting inns, she can't help but observe a tall, well built man seated at a nearby table. Her maid has rude, degrading observations to make about the man who looks travel warn and weary. After overhearing the maid's rude comments, he hopes to never see she or her mistress again. Of course, unbeknownst to her, he is the laird to who's home Berget travels and she'll be seeing him quite soon!
Laird Graeme Kennedy has two driving goals in life; keep his family, whom he loves dearly, safe & happy & secondly, be the greatest laird for the clan. He experienced a terrible marriage & has sworn to never marry again, so all his efforts can be put to enjoying his family & seeing the clan prosper.
Berget Jonston was basically sold, by her parents, to a dreadful man & he died. Now her parents have found another vile man to marry her & refill their coffers - Berget refuses to let this happen, she makes plans to flee to the Highlands to become a governess to two young girls.
Graeme is responsible for his older brother's widow & her two small girls so when he meets their new governess, sparks fly when he finds he doesn't trust her & she doesn't want him to know her real identity. I really enjoyed the interaction between Graeme & Berget - the humor, bantering & their characters finding friendship & trust in the other one. The secondary characters were wonderful & the story kept me turning pages. In the end we have a HEA with a couple in love & an ending that pulled at my heartstrings & made me smile.
DNF, the hero was such a jerk in this story. Like I'm all for a little enemies to lovers, when done right, but this hero just seemed petulant and immature, his one redeeming quality seemed to be that he loved his nieces. Oh and the heroine seemed to find him hot, but I have no idea why, after being around him and his behaviour awhile you'd think any attraction would soon fade. He was very suspicious of the heroine, for little reason, especially when she gave acceptable reasons for her behaviour. He seemed to think just becasue she was still young and pretty she couldn't possibly be in service, like seriously, even pretty young women find themselves in dire straits sometimes. Also, the hero showed very little care for the heroine in general, like much could have been forgiven he had just show a modicum of responsibility, like the poor women had traveled by coach for several long days, and he doesn't think that maybe she need to rest, change clothes, maybe eat? This is basic stuff, and probably would have made like him a least a little bit if had done anything. Then after the heroine reveals the truth of her situation to him he kisses her, then insults, like come on!
To Seduce A Highland Scoundrel is a phenomenal historical romance by Collette Cameron. Ms. Cameron has provided readers with another well-written story populated with an outstanding cast of characters. Berget is not impressed with the manners of the highlander having breakfast as she waits for the final leg of her journey to begin. Berget is a widow traveling under a false name so she won't be traced to her new position as governess. Graeme, Laird of the Killeaggian, is glad to be home. When the woman from the inn where he used his worst manners arrives as governess to his nieces, they are both surprised. Graeme and Berget's story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Collette Cameron soon. To Seduce A Highland Scoundrel is book 3 of the Heart of a Scot Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
The Laird is a bit uncouth, and Berget has just escaped an arranged marriage with a pervert. Her father is a gambler who thinks he can sell her to the highest bidder. Anything would be preferable to that, even escaping to the highlands as a governess to a Laird’s precocious nieces. Now, if she can just stop her attraction to him. The only thing I didn’t like was I thought that there would be more trouble with the man she’d been sold to. I did enjoy this book and I would recommend it to everyone.
Berget's story was unreal -- arranged marriage to a lecherous man; then a widow; then sold/promised in a second marriage to another more lecherous man -- she takes matters into her own hand and leaves her home to start a new life.
She briefly encounters Graeme, who she has no idea is the Laird in charge of the household she is heading towards. Sparks fly, but they go their separate ways.
They meet again, the truth of her background is revealed, and then the relationship grows.
They beat all odds, thwart the evil bridegroom wannabe, and love conquers all.
Graeme was a huge Highland Laird who rules with fairness and love for his people! Berget was fleeing a past scandalous marriage and evil parents! Graeme knows right a way no beautiful widow would make her home in the Highlands unless she is fleeing something! Berget does the opposite of what I expected and shares the ugly truth with Graeme! He in turn shares his own painful past! These two are made for each other! What a beautiful couple!
I didn't know there was pornography in this. It doesn't occur until almost the end. Thankfully it was easy to gloss over without losing any conversation or storyline. The story kept me very interested though. Not a whole lot of action in it, though the children & pups were adorable. Not enough of them though, as the story could have held more suspense toward the end.
I like the characters, enjoyed watching them go from adversaries to lovers. The additions of puppies, kids and the chaos of her parents having tried to sell her to a groom she didn't want.....
This book was so good I only put it down to feed my family out go to the loo. I liked it that much. Less than a day to read it
4 1/2 stars. I enjoyed this story a lot. Berget went to great lengths to keep her freedom. Graeme wanted to fix up his lands, home, and family. Together, they were a strong couple, not prepared for the heat between them, but willing to do what was necessary to protect each other. I did not want to stop reading this story, and I recommend it and the series.
I admire the character, Breget, you have portrayed her as a strong woman who in spite of her parents, ruthless, horrid men strived to carve out her own life. That she found love and passion was a bonus. Wonderful read!
Collette Cameron just keeps turning out very good stories about love and the Highlands of Scotland. I enjoyed this book very much and found it equal to any she had written. I would recommend it to anyone.
When Berget sets out to fulfill a governess position little does she know the Scottish highlander she encounters turns out to be the laird of the keep. First impressions are not always right as these two soon learn. A delightful tale.
How on earth did Ladies of this era live with gambling Fathers who sell their daughters for more gambling money? Berger gets sold twice and does the unthinkable-she runs away! Honorable Laird wants to know her secrets….the ending very satisfying!
This is the second call it Cameron today. I can’t wait to find the next one, I plan on reading all of them. They are absolutely the perfect romance. Steamy without porn or loads of overly descriptive sex. And marriage beforehand! Love these books.
Wonderful how the title was written into the conversation of the main characters. Sometimes, like this one, I even do a search on the history that is included. Now I want to learn more about the Scottish Highlands, maybe even visit a Loch or more. Enjoyable reading.
A rather sweet story, full of wit and charm. Of course, there’s the required villain, but other than that a very straightforward story. Loved it! Great for a lazy afternoon.
