Instead of becoming a famous fashion designer as she’d dreamed, Brett Bishop ends up working for the twenty-four-year-old daughter of an A-list designer instead. Even though her career plans didn’t turn out as she expected, she still believes her expectations for her love life will be met. Brett is ready to meet Ms. Right Forever if she can get a break in the schedule her young boss dictates.

Evangeline Scott, known as Scotty, also dreamed of being a famous fashion designer. Years of fighting tooth and nail for a toehold in the fashion industry have taken their toll. Scotty has lowered her expectations and is the latest designer for I Am Alex, a clothing line for young adults. Her boss Alex and her congenial attitude is like a breath of fresh air, but Alex’s chief designer, Brett, is something akin to morning breath with a dash of garlic, yet oddly interesting.

Scotty and Brett are more alike than they realize when they first meet, but it takes a crash landing in the wilderness for them to truly realize just how perfect they are for each other. They just have to survive Alex and her sister Cass who can’t stand each other, their Uncle Mark who can’t stand up to his own dog, and whatever lurks in the Montana mountains.

Robin Alexander’s latest romantic comedy is loaded with laughs, love, and a tiny bit of wildlife.

Born in 1965, Robin Alexander grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she still resides. An avid reader of Lesbian fiction, Robin decided to take the leap and try her hand at writing. It didn't take long for her favorite hobby to become a full-time author.
Since her heritage is Scottish and Irish and she’s allergic to seafood, she’s considered an honorary Cajun. When she’s not writing, she’s exploring her state with the top off her Jeep in search of the small towns on the water that inspire her.
Robin is awkward, sometimes shy, loaded with anxieties, accident prone, dangerous with power tools, and has been known to make idiotic decisions. She has been fortunate enough to turn her shortcomings into the hilarious characters you’ll find in her novels and short stories. Her passion is writing funny tales about falling in love, being imperfect and reveling in friendship.
Robin is convinced she has the best job in the world, and she’s extremely grateful for her fans who support her and enable her to do what she loves.

I don’t know what to do with this one. Normally I love what Robin Alexander writes. She has her own formula and it works. Mostly angst free, wacky family relationships, 2 women finding each other and becoming best mates, lots of hilarious events. It was all there but somehow this time it didn’t come together. It felt off.

Maybe it was the plane crash and subsequent survival until rescue arrives part that felt out of place. It was a serious situation and there was even a fatal casualty. The whole dynamic between Brett and her young boss Alex and Alex’s sister Cass was weird. There was no real connection between Brett and straight Scotty until this extremely odd bathroom scene on the plane. Even their fashion designer jobs felt empty. Like I said I don’t know what it is, it felt like Alexander tried too hard to make the puzzle pieces fit. Or maybe it could very well just me. You have to find out for yourself.

f/f slow burn but explicit in the end

Themes: I am not feeling the love this time, and I really want to, it didn’t even generate a laugh and that is a very odd experience for me while reading a Robin Alexander.

3 Stars is all I can offer :-(

I glanced at the book description after I bought the book, something I do not normally do with a new Alexander book, and suddenly wasn't sure I wanted to read it. It didn't really look like something I'd normally like. So I read two short stories instead.

Then I started the book and, well, I was even more convinced this wasn't the book I wanted to read right then. But I continued. Then I found I couldn't stop laughing. Then....

Since I moved into my apartment a year ago, I've been watching a lot of recorded shows I didn't have access to before. Which I mention because one of them is 'Air Disasters. Which this book includes, an air disaster, not someone who watches that show.

So - humor, romance, disaster, adventure, lives in danger, and best of all - likable characters (even if bordering on insane).

Thirty something year old designer Brett Bishop is the manager of all things Alex, 24 year old daughter of a famous designer. Rather than pursuing her own career, she ends up being in charge of Alex’s business as well as filling in for her estranged parents. Evangeline Scott, known as Scotty, is a designer looking for a fresh start after getting burned out in the cut throat fashion industry. When Alex brings Scotty on board, Brett’s hackles go up as she’s used to have people go through Alex in order to be noticed by the more successful designer in the family. The trio goes to get angry Cass, Alex’s 18 year old sister, and their uncle on the way to Montana for a vacation when the plane crashes. They all have to put their differences aside to find help and get out alive.

I was looking forward to this read but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. The highlight of the book is the Brett/Scotty relationship. Their chemistry is undeniable and simply great. Although a little different, their sense of humor and take charge personality do make them a good pair. Funny how the secondary characters all saw this while I found myself enthusiastically echoing their assessment. These interactions were the funniest of the book. The story was bordering on boring until they got in the airplane and there was a bathroom scene. Not the mile high thing that quite frankly I find gross, but something else equality gross but funny!

As I mentioned above, I found the story lacking whenever Brett and Scotty were not sharing the pages. The sisters’ bickering got old, as well as their constant swearing (and that is not something I cringe about). Now, I will admit I may be primed as my 2 daughters also bicker constantly (insert eye roll here please). I understand that part of the story was geared towards establishing Brett and Scotty as parent figures, but the opportunity was missed towards more relationship development. Scotty is almost 40 years old, yet the decision to be with a woman for the first time came and went without fanfare. In fact, the entire relationship was without conflict. The rest of the supporting cast was good, Mark was the gay uncle with a fabulous dog that walked all over him, so naturally, I enjoyed it.

Crash Landing.

This is a romantic comedy about the fashion industry and unexpected love. The story revolves around Brett and Scotty, who both have dreams in the fashion world but find themselves on unconventional paths. I like the humour infused into the narrative and for a while, I thought the unexpected crash landing of the characters in the wilderness and the challenges the characters faced in Montana's mountains provided a unique backdrop for the story development.

Unfortunately, I found the characters to be a bit superficial and childish and the weird dysfunctional family type relationship between the main group of characters to be off. I also thought the connection between the main romantic characters could be more substantial as well.

While this story may not have fully met my expectations, it's still a fun listen for those seeking a light-hearted take on love. Lori Prince also enhanced the overall experience with her narration.

I don't know why but I had trouble liking this book. I felt that quite a few of the scenes in the book were totally unnecessary. Towards the end, I was almost irritated which doesn't happen usually when I'm reading.
Maybe I read the right book at the wrong time? I'll never know

It has been awhile since i read a book that made me laugh a lot. And Robin Alexander’s books never fail me so far.

I really enjoy this book alots. And all the characters in this book really likeable and i really like them all. With all the silliness that they did and talked made me laugh out loud. I like how Robin’s books that i read so far, always include family theme, that there is always someone looking after one another even if they are not related but they are close like a family. In this book, it is Brett, Scotty, Mark, Alex and Cass. They are hilarious and lovable people.

I also like how Robin managed fit in a “crash landing accident” and “characters stuck somewhere” theme in this book as well. The theme that i always enjoy reading. Double plus for that 🤩

All in all i love this book! :)

What I am missing is the build up of chemistry between the two main characters. It's a good book, but not as good as a usual Robin Alexander. It still is full auf laughter and quirky characters.

RA has chosen a more slapstick comedy approach starting last year with Temporary Girl and it continues this year with this newest book. It's oddly similar to how Kiki Archer has changed over the last few years as well. Her approach has been similar. While I don't mind slapstick, even when it's chaotic and sometimes hard to keep up with, I much prefer a slower subtle approach to comedy.

What I miss are the days of Gloria's Secret, Pitifully Ugly, Just Jorie, The Lure of White Oak Lake, etc... Those were bread and butter RA books IMO.

This isn't bad IMO. There were some definite LOL moments. I guess I just wish that RA would stick to her roots I guess. She's always been a stalwart for me, reading wise. And after 33 books over the years I'd say I had a pretty descent grasp of how she used to write.

Enjoy another Robin Alexander romance!

Always fun to read an Alexander. This isn’t the best of her work I’ve read but still enough to make me smile. Fashion designers meet and fall in love. Of course there are many hurtles to get over including a crashed private jet and petulant early twenty- somethings. Oh, and one of the designers is straight, she thinks!

It pains me so much to give this rating. But they say sharing is caring? Please don't take this review as a reflection of the author's other works, I love most of them, in fact she's one of my favourite authors and I always pick her work when I see them published.

With that said, I felt underwhelmed by this book. Perhaps I had too great of an expectation? But that couldn't be it, because this is perhaps the first book by the author I've felt anything remotely negative. It lacked the formulaic unique storytelling style I'm so in love with. The crazy-meddlesome family, two love-hate mains, the unexpected adventure, it all seemed to be there but just not the right mix?

I can't pinpoint exactly what tasted wrong. At times I felt some dialogues were a little bland, like gap fillers I wanted to skip. The chemistry between the two mains was perhaps the deal breaker, I liked the bathroom scene, but other than that I felt like there was no build up. I did not feel happy nor disappointed when they got together, which is quite worrying in a romance novel. I always found the side characters lovable and I usually love them as much as the mains, but here they really were just side characters.

I hope I wasn't too harsh, I'm a bit too honest when I really care. But then again, I understand we all go through a slump, perhaps this was one. Because I know the author is among the excellent ones. I'm always going to check her other works out because her stories bring me so much joy to read. There are very few authors that can make me laugh out loud throughout a book and make me wish the stories never end, and Alexander is truly one of them. I'm still looking forward to another book, fret not, I'm not giving up.

Another fun read. You can’t go wrong with Robins books.
This one has a great cast...definitely not your usual run of the mill.
Brett and Scotty..the sisters Alex and Cass plus uncle Mark.
Highly recommended by me...

Omg! Scotty and Brett were amazing together! They were both confident and had similar sense of humor. Their chemistry was outstanding! I loved their scenes and how they were with the supporting cast. I laughed a bunch which was wonderful and much needed.

I always end up busting out laughing while reading Robin Alexander's books and this one is no different. That said, I would read this one with my eyes instead of going with the audiobook for a reread.

While I loved Lori Prince's narration for Scaredy Cat, the snarky, sarcastic tone used for Brett and Cass were just too much and became grating.

Still a fun read and I'll likely pick up the ebook so I can enjoy it again. Listened to the audiobook through Hoopla. Libraries are the best!

It's ridiculous. But in the good way. If I wanted to read a non fiction and learn about something I would do that. Instead I'm reading a fictional romantic comedy so it is gonna reach a point of ridiculousness. But that's okay, I just wanna sit back and relax and I can always do that with Alexander's books.
I become giddy as soon as any new book from Alexander is out, no premise, just get it on my kindle and read it. I'm almost to even mention the word disappointment, because that's just not possible with her books and her books will always have a special place in my heart.
But I did learn something! Louisianas drinking age limit is 18!

A real treat

I really enjoyed this one. The jokes were hilarious as always, Robin served. So many interesting issues, struggles and ideas to think about. And a happily ever after is all we need.

I'm honestly yet to read a RA book I didn't like. This is no exception. Goofy/humorous, no angst, quick read. Exactly what the doctor prescribed for me. I'm actually sad it's finished. On to the next

I don’t know man..This is better read than listened. I don’t wanna be harsh but I think Lori Prince is better suited to narrate children’s book than lesfic romance. She always sounds so sunny and exasperated whatever the situation.

After reading some of the reviews I was expecting absolutely nothing and that’s what saved the book for me.

It was an ok to bleh book compared with my favorites from this author BUT I’m rating it without considering that detail. Why? Because it was funny, you really laugh out loud in some parts. It’s kind of nonsensical in the you forget what the character is talking about but it’s still endearing.

So all in all it was more of a 3.5 book that could have been a 4 with any other author. So a 4 it is.

There is something I find so enjoyable about Robin Alexander's books. Normally, the easiest way to win my heart is a single parent romance (as I learned throughout 2023). Yet, every single one of Alexander's books I have read / listened to (which totals only three as of right now, so I suppose that is not the best basis to judge?) has been incredible.

To start: this is like if Yellowjackets were actually a romantic comedy, in that it is a romantic comedy with a plane crash / survival aspect (totally did not see that coming, as I did not read the synopsis). Magnificent!! Brett and Scotty are so much fun, and every single side character was lovable in their own right!!

Actually, I think that is something I love about Alexander's books: the characters feel real AND are all likable (excepting true villains, like the parents in Kellen's Moment). Also, the romance is at once the main purpose of the book, but not the sole focus...if that makes any sense? Like, Brett and Scotty falling in love is certainly the premise of this one, but we also get all the family dynamics between Brett, Cass, Alex, Mark, and Scotty, rather than only focusing on the romantic parts. And yet, the romance does not suffer for it.

I think this is actually a positive of Alexander's writing; that regardless of the central romance, every single plot point is interesting, engaging, and fun / whimsical. Oh yeah, and the comedy actually lands really well (personally).

I am sorry to say that I did not like this book very much, but I have to say it anyway. I think the story is too simple and has spread a lot, so most of the story has not been interesting. Some dialogues seem repeated, even. The protagonist couple is not very interesting in itself and the two are more concerned with the rest of the characters than themselves. And the two sisters are too much weird. Nor do I think the part in which they are lost makes a lot of sense. And I don't want to talk about the pilot, poor man.

So, for once, I will not recommend this book. (But since there are so many of this author who are excellent, I hope she doesn't care much)

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read.
The story is interesting.
The characters are amazing.
I liked the banter between the characters, their serious conversations that somehow were important and helpful for them but super funny at the same time, their fights and curses and weird ways of saying 'I love you'.
I really loved how Alex and Cass treat Brett and Scotty like their moms, and how Brett keeps insisting she's not a mom while acting like one.
It was so much fun, I'm definitely going to listen to this book again.
