Everyone struggles in this life, even if it doesn’t seem like it at times. And during these times of struggle, we can turn to self-compassion to help us through these difficult situations. So even amidst the chaos, you can have a calm inner-knowing that you have the knowledge, skills, and understanding to handle the bumps in the road. A hands-on, practical resource, FREEDOM is a book that you can come back to again and again. In Part 1: The Untold Story, you’ll learn the background on why we think, feel, and act the way we do. Aimed at teens, but insightful and helpful for absolutely anyone.
I bought this book for my teenager, and after reading it I have already found the ideas and practices incredibly useful for myself! The first section explains really clearly what our brains are doing when we get our thoughts and feelings all tied up in knots. The second part lays out a series of practices for working yourself through it when you are struggling with those difficult times. I really appreciated the overall theme of self-compassion, and changing that internal monologue we all have, from beating yourself up to being kind and understanding and loving to yourself. The authors’ writing is very relatable and easy to read. As a bonus, the book design is gorgeous! Lots of space for teens to write in it.
