LEGENDS is the first poetry chapbook by Bethany Nolan. The poetry tells the stories of her favourite (and least favourite) ancient figures - such as Apollo, Achilles, Daedalus, Octavia the Younger and more. Rather than a full length collection, LEGENDS contains a smaller selection of poetry written about some of the heroes, villains and causalities of the ancient world.
this was just my regular account and then i self published poetry for funsies and it made this an author account and now it won't let me change it back to a regular account and i have sunk 10 years into goodreads so i can't start over
also it assigns literally any bethany nolan work to me even though i didn't write most of them
Do not be afraid, do not shed a tear. You were born to be a bridge between life and death. Your smiles will light up the dungeons of the pits of hell, and when you return, you'll craft flowers in his image.
My friend Bethany wrote a fantastic collection of classics poetry and I'm so so proud of her!! My personal faves are Achilles I, Persephone Story III and Medusa II.
I always know as soon as I start reading something Bethany wrote that it's going to be amazing, yet she always manages to surprise me with just how incredible it is. I came in with high expectations and finished with my mind blown at how good LEGENDS is. I will absolutely be recommending this to every single person I know and possibly just anyone I meet out on the street.
"please, what is it like to be loved by the gods?"
I love classics (that is, mythology/history, not Classic Novels — though I love those too) and I love poetry, so of course I had to pick up this collection.
As is always the case, some of these resonated much more with me than the others, but in every poem the language is beautiful and creates vivid imagery. (My particular favorites are "Hyacinthus I," "Persephone," "Apollo," "Perseus," "Livilla," and "Achilles II". Which, looking back, is probably at least half the collection, LOL.)
