Sometimes, the real prize can’t be measured in bars of gold…
When a member of a reclusive rich family destroys her house, Emma Starling isn’t just looking for money to repair it. She wants the hunky stranger to know that he can’t just buy his way out of trouble. The local cops don’t seem to care, but she isn’t going to stop until he understands that there are consequences for actions. Even if that means launching a lawsuit against one of the most powerful families in Five Peaks.
Asher Aterna just wants the problem to go away. He has other things to worry about. Dragon things. He’s going to have to find a way to get the strong-willed, determined, and more than slightly gorgeous woman to back down. Even if that means spending some of his own personal fortune to do so. That could be a problem though…
After the two agree to settle out of court, they arrive to find Asher's treasure vault empty. Words fly as both accuse the other of being untruthful. He thinks she stole his gold. She thinks he lured her out there to silence her. Forced to work together to find out what happened, the pair slowly come to realize that maybe, just maybe, they’ve misjudged each other. If they want to explore their new feelings, however, they’re going to have to deal with the real thief first…
Riley is one of those early-morning people you love to hate, because she swears she doesn't need caffeine, even though the coffee-maker is connected to her smartphone. She lives in a three-story townhouse by the good graces of a tabby-cat who rules the house, the couch, the table, well, basically everywhere. When she's not groveling for forgiveness for neglecting to pet her kitty enough, Riley is strapped in to her writing chair coming up with crazy worlds where she can make her own decisions of when feeding time is and how much coffee can be drank without her friends--of which she has three--holding yet another intervention that they threaten to post on the internet.
There are a lot of holes in this story. Spoilers ahead.
- There are multiple bad guys who are never caught. They just end up forgotten? - The MC is hurt badly by bad guy but no explanation as to exactly what happened and how the MC escaped - Time passes but no indication as to how much time has passed (month, week, year…) - Humans are not supposed to know the secret but h has living parents, siblings, and friends. Will they be told? Can family visit her new home with shifters? - HEA is implied but no ceremony (marriage or mating). Will they have shifter babies? - The romance was lacking. Hard to believe they fell in love so quickly.
On the plus side, this was a quick read and it had an interesting premise. I loved the way it started. The author jumped straight into the action. Although the issue was never resolved, the drama of the first interaction was enough to hold my interest through the entire book.
I only read this a few days ago and I’ve forgotten the storyline! As it was just boring! Man/dragon is mean and moody till he falls in love with her. Then he becomes a completely different person. She’s really really annoying! Her character just doesn’t make sense and the decisions she makes are really annoying.
**MINOR SPOILERS** This book is the first in the Dragons of Mount Aterna series, but also fits into a larger world with dragons (Dragons of Mount Valen, Dragons of Mount Teres). It can be read as a stand alone. I did not care for the main character, Emma. She does not seem to think. At one point, the other main character, Asher, is confronting a criminal for information. She believes he is a criminal as well. Though the actual criminal has several bodyguards with him, she decides to yell at Asher in the middle of what clearly is a dangerous situation. He asks her to wait in the car and keep her head down. Instead, she tries to insert herself into the situation and is absolutely clueless about what is going on. Emma also tasers Asher a couple of times. I think the second time was meant to be funny or out of fear but it was just annoying. She did not control herself. When Asher is introduced, he is chasing a creature from the Otherworld and they end up going through Emma’s house. Emma pulls a gun on Asher and he stops to talk to her. Later in the book, he is easily able to get away from people who handle guns, so there was absolutely no reason for him to stop and talk to her. Instead he lets a potentially dangerous creature go. As a result, Emma decides to sue Asher and his family for millions of dollars for a house worth less than $1 million. She does this because the house belonged to her grandfather. This would have been thrown out in court or the amount decreased, but Asher is asked by his family to settle it. Emma’s extravagant demands were tiresome. Asher is part of a dragon clan that lives together. His brother is the clan leader. There are a couple of situations in the book where it would smart for Asher to ask for back up. He does not do so, which I found a little foolish on his part. The relationship between them develops, in part, because Asher recognizes her as his mate. Emma, too, seems to sense they belong together. Very little relationship development happens. We are just supposed to assume they are good for each other. I have no interest in continuing reading this author. I only finished this book in order to write a review.
The idea is this is interesting, I appreciate some shifters and vague magical references, but that’s kind of where my likes run out.
The romance is hard to buy. When the characters finally admit they have feelings for each other it feels pretty lackluster. I have no idea why either of them like each other people neither of them says why, not even to each other. I can get behind some fated mates but they need to at least like something about each other and be able to voice that, otherwise it feels empty and like they’re just lead by their genitals.
I didn’t like the spicy bits at all. It might’ve been just the fact that the way it was written doesn’t appeal to me or, more likely than not, it was because I didn’t really know anything about these characters. We didn’t really learn anything about them and thus I didn’t care about them. Asher is a rich dragon shifter with a complicated family, that’s literally all we know about him… we never even find out what he does for work. While Emma wasn’t any better as we only know that she was close to her grandfather and lives in his house. I can’t enjoy a sex scene with characters that I have zero emotional investment in.
The writing is a little bit awkward, like the way the characters speak doesn’t feel natural. Awkward writing I can ignore if I like the world and characters enough but it was hard to trudge through in this one.
The reveal about the grandfather was flat as hell. It didn’t match up to the level of guilt she was expressing, making the impact of the reveal feel empty.
While I really didn’t enjoy this book, I will keep reading the series to maybe find out about some unanswered questions from this book like what the things that came out of the portal was. I’m hopeful that this one just didn’t have good leads and the following books will be better. Fingers crossed!
learning to trust Emma Starling is minding her own business when a car gets driven through her house. well it will always be her grandfathers home. And when she find a very hot man trying to run away she makes sure he cant go anywhere. She is going to hold him here till the police come. Asher Aterna is a dragon shifter and he had been chasing something that had come out of the portal and didnt mean for it to destroy her home but if she would just except the money so he could get on with his day. But Emma was having none of it. She didnt want him to just throw his money about, she wanted him to understand how important the house was. So she goes after him to hurt him and chooses to sue him. Asher doesn't want his family to know he is going to settle out of court so he tells the human he will pay her in gold from his treasure and they make there was to his vault the next day. But when it is opened the vault is empty. Who has taken his gold??? Then the doors close trapping Emma and Asher inside. What was going on???? This is a story of two people who are thrown together and need to learn to trust and except each other for who they are. There are some twists and turns and the passion these two hold for each other is just beautiful. Its one great read

This book is about Asher Aterna and Emma Starling. Asher's family established to town on Aterna Mountain. Dragon's are charged with protecting a gateway from the underworld to Earth. Something escapes the Gate and Asher goes after it. There is a crash and damaged half of Emma's property. Sparks fly. Not the good ones. Emma thinks Asher is a spoiled rich guy that has no respect for anyone else. They strike a deal for damages and when Asher takes Emma to his vault, everything is gone. She thinks he was lying about his treasure and he thinks she stole it. There is more to it than just that, but they will work together to find out what's going on. You can tell from the beginning she is not gonna take any guff off of anyone. She has a crazy attraction to him even though she is furious about her damages and he feels the same. I thought she handled his reveal really well. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
This book isn't the one I wanted/intended to read but the author recommended reading this series of books first so I found myself doing so since the premise seemed intriguing and the blurb I read was amusing. Boy, I wanted to love this book, I really did. I loved the idea of having a dragon discover his hoard has been stolen as he is attempting to compensate his mate for damages done to her house. Unfortunately the execution was poorly done. Emma simply wasn't likeable for most of the story, she was unreasonable when it came to repairing her grandfather's house and the whole lawsuit, and her romance with Asher simply wasn't believable, one minute they were at each other's throats and the next they were "drawn to each other". Ugh. I hate when author's rely on fate rather than having characters that truly seem to work well together. Truthfully neither had much depth but at least Asher's motivations for his actions were logical (aside from why he wanted to be with such a harridan). I'm not sure if subsequent books circle around to address some of the plot holes, but it is extremely annoying to have a whole bunch of unnecessarily unresolved plotlines. What the heck escaped from the portal in the very beginning of the book? Was it ever captured? Why wasn't it ever mentioned again? How is it that Emma has virtually no ties or friends in Five Peaks? How exactly was Asher's hoard stolen? Why was he targeted? Was anyone else affected? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. The writing was engaging and there were many bits that I enjoyed, which is why I'm not sure if I will continue to read the rest of the books. The writing was okay but the story was all over the place. I had pretty high expectations so maybe knowing what I do now and adjusting my expectations appropriately will help me better enjoy the other books.
The book starts with a fast and furious introduction to the supernatural. Asher, a dragon shifter, needs to hide the events that destroyed Emma’s house since the world doesn’t know about shifters. The author created an undercurrent of significant subplots that provided emotional meaning to the actions of the main characters. It’s an exciting story that engages the reader. Asher and Emma power through the various tangles and struggle created by others determined to prevent harmonious relationships between the various shifter clans while Asher attempts to develop a relationship with Emma after revealing the existence of shifters. This writer captures perfectly the suspenseful, mystery of trying to determine why Emma and Asher were attacked and confined in the treasure vault and then the steps leading to the fateful conclusion kept the reader turning the page without a break. I loved this book. I received an ARC for review. I would highly recommend this book.

As Asher parks for his shift a figure escapes from the Gate which would be the adventure of a lifetime. Driving up the the mine for his shift guarding Gate to the Otherworld Dragon shifter Asher was thinking how boring the job was but as he pulled up something ran out of the mine jumps in the closest vehicle and drives off just as two of the guards follow it out of the mine. As it drives down the lane he had arrived by Asher backs the truck up to give chase not turning the vehicle around until he reaches the road. As he sees the outskirts of town approaching he pulls along side and nudges it off the road. He tries to capture the figure as it exits the SUV and in the struggle he throws it and it goes through the brick wall of a nearby house. He enter via the hole and is confronted by homeowner Emma.

I love Riley's books and if this first book is any indication she is about to start us on another great series
Asher Aterna is a dragon shifter who is pursuing a demon when he accidentally destroy Emma's home She is determined to make the local wealthy family member pay for what he did when the police don't want to get involved so she sues him. After negotiations Asher agrees to pay her and they head to his private trove to pay her. When they arrive all of his treasure trove it is gone and he blames her. When she falls asleep he sees his chance to get them out of the locked safe as he he uses his dragon powers to get them out When it finally comes out that her boss who is from a rival dragon clan is the one behind everything he will need to reveal his secret to save them Can she love him when she finds out his secret You will have to read to see
Emma is furious when some guy drives up and throws something all the way through her house. Then he just casually says he will pay to fix it. To show Asher how serious she takes it, she sues him! Asher agrees to settle, and takes her to his vault to pay her. To both their surprise, it was empty! Things really escalate from there. I don't want to give anything away, so I won't say more than this.
The pace is fast, the tone is uncertain yet hopeful and the storyline is character oriented with some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and appealing. You can see where they both are coming from. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. If you like dragon shifters with some different capabilities, exciting action and likable characters, then this is for you. Enjoy!
It was fine. I read this as a quick and easy palate cleanser after being sorely disappointed in a recently hyped book.
There is very little world building and the interactions between characters can be stilted and cheesy. There are a few sex scenes but I didn’t pay much attention to them.
There is some kind of gate between worlds and it is the job of the dragon clans to guard them (one per mountain). They have been doing this forever, but no mention of the lifespan of the dragons or how they find mates since they interact with humans as little as possible. But there are humans living at the compound who are mates to dragons.
The book opens with something escaping through the gate into the human world, Asher breaking Emma’s house in the chase, and Asher getting his treasure stolen. The creature gets away and the book focuses on the missing treasure and Emma and Asher.
A Mate to Treasure is the first book in Riley Storm’s Dragons of Mount Aterna series and also my first read by this author. After researching the author’s backlist and intrigued by the blurb for this book, I eager to read this new to me author. Ms Storm did a wonderful job of world building and draws the reader in easily with her descriptions and dialogue. No story is ever complete without some angst and drama, and there is definitely much misunderstanding between the main characters before they succumb to the inevitable chemistry that ignites as the story progresses. A fast-paced, easy to follow storyline and a great plot made this a thoroughly enjoyable read. I look forward to the next in the series.

It was the first time I’d read this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. In the beginning Emma kind of got on my nerves, but once I saw that Asher felt the same way I got it. I enjoyed following them both on this adventure and can’t wait to read more from this author. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
I received the ARC from Bad Boy Update. Love this new series! The reclusive, sexy dragon shifter Asher is supposed to be heading to guard duty when he something - not human - run out of the mine. He chases it to town where he ends up throwing it through a wall....where Emma lives. She is livid and calls the police, only to have them release Asher. She doesn't care who his family is, she is determined to sue him and make him pay. The more they interact the more their attraction grows, even as they try to ignore it. I love their banter, the clan intrigue and the chemistry between them. I can't wait for the next book!
Wow this book by Riley Storm is a rare gem. From the moment Asher stumbled into Emma life these two are combative and quarrelsome. When Asher's treasure disappears and the two of them are locked in his vault insults and accusations start flying between them as well as some major sparks. The hunt for Asher's treasure leads them in one direction and then they finally start realizing just how much their attracted to each other an there absolutely electrifying together.

Although I don't normally read dragon shifter books, I did enjoy this one. I liked noticing how Asher was a true hero all the way: never lying to Emma but still managing to keep his secrets to himself, paying from his own treasure to repair her house rather than the clan's money, protecting Emma when it seemed he was causing her more trouble. I also enjoyed Emma's sense of humor, which came out in even dire situations. Most of all, it was fun to see their similar reaction to the 'fated mate' sensations they each had to deal with when they were so plainly at odds with each other! Well written, plenty of action, good plot.
Emma and Asher get started on a bad foot when he destroys her family home. She wants him to really pay for the harm he caused.
Asher has a dragon's hoard but he needs to keep his secrets safe. It becomes harder for him to keep her out of it all when she is right in the middle of it all and in danger.
I enjoyed the book and liked Asher a lot. He really wants to do the right thing. He doesn't want to lie but he has to keep things from her. She comes off a little manic at first but you get to know her better as the story continues and understand her reactions better.
A dragon shifter romance that takes place in modern time. Humans don’t know about the dragons and the dragons do almost anything to keep it that way. They are supposed to protect the world from the dangers that could come through gates to another realm. One creature does make it through. But what happened to it? This story gives hints but more will be told in future books to the series. Asher is one of the dragons and when he somewhat destroys a woman’s house a chain events will change his life. Emma can’t believe her house is destroyed. Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Man finds his mate. After a wedding a few days later he beds her, argues with her then leaves. Few days later he finds a business card and says who is this person? Hint - he bedded her after the wedding. Walks in doesn't recognize her and is an absolute jerk. At some later point he realizes who she is but there is nothing to indicate why he forgot her. Not a head injury, not a fall with amnesia, nope nothing. We are just left wondering right along with her and it's never really cleared up except they are in love and getting married. Yay. Stories should flow and people who read story should be left with "what the f just happened" and WHY? Won't be reading another.
Asher and Emma are an unlikely pair. A shy girl alone in the world and a private man with a secret to keep. Neither one has ever had a serious relationship. As they bungle their way through fighting the attraction they have towards each other, fighting off rogue dragons, and saving their part of the world you will fall in love with the pair. The author kept me entertained and turning pages to find out what happened next. I really enjoyed this book.
A new series and what a great start it is. Emma and Ashton meet in a very weird way. She's holding a shot gun to his head because he threw something through her house but she doesn't know why or how. She plans on suing him though. What she doesn't know is she is keeping a big secret. He's a shapeshifter and turns into a dragon. What will happen when she finds out. When their lives are in danger, will she run or will she fight for a man that has come to mean something to her. Ashton is determined to keep Emma safe, can she be his fated mate?? The book is written well and was very good.
Riley Storm is one of my go to authors. She writes some of the most amazing stories. There is drama, misunderstanding, impatience, and a mystery. Asher is a true hero managing to keep his secret but never lying to Emma. He will pay to repair her house that was burnt down and he'll use his own treasure to do it. Emma had the most amazing sense of humor and it was fun to see how they handled the "fated mate" sensation. Great plot. Wonder where Asher's treasure went? You'll have to read the story to find out! I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
've never read anything by Riley Storm and am not always a huge fan of shifter books. But, A Mate to Treasure is the first book in the Dragons of Mount Aterna series, and overall a pretty good read. Asher crashes, literally, into Emma's life. In trying to "make things right", they fall into a series of twists, turns, predicaments, and drama. Not the least is the fact that Asher is a dragon shifter. The book has good flow, well paced, and overall a good read. I received a copy of this book from Bad Buy Update and this is my honest review.
Asher damages Emma's grandfather's house while chasing something that came threw a guarded gate. Emma thinking he was indifferent to the damage he did, Sues the family, Asher is livid can not understand why it's just a building. To pay her off he offers part of his treasure. They arrange where to meet. From that meeting things move very fast. You'll need to read it to find out why they are being targeted and who is behind it. Plus watch the comedy of their falling in love.
This book is not like others, it starts out normal enough, and I started enjoying the banter between Asher & Emma, that's the Mirth! The intrigue was thinking the bad-guys that they encountered were everyday run-of-the-mill criminals, but then it's a surprise but I don't want to give away too much but it's a good read and I really enjoyed it on all aspects. I would recommended for adults who are not squeamish, nor prudish. It is delicious story,
A Mate to Treasure is the first exciting book in the intriguing series Dragons of Mount Aterna.
Guarding the gate is a must as it keeps the world safe but what happens when something slips through? The five families keep to themselves but when one's treasure has gone missing he must find who is behind it before there is war amongst their kind. Whilst looking they find something even more precious than their treasure their fated mate.
Riley writes a good tale with twist and turns that keep the pages turning.
Another fantastic story by Riley Storm and I loved Emma’s and Asher’s story. Asher’s family are dragons and they end up destroying Emma’s home so Emma takes Asher to court and they end up settling but when they get back Asher’s treasure is gone and accusations fly and from there the action danger and passion start. I loved this story it’s a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
